A Wandering Esper

Beloved Stargazer

PostPosted: Thu Jun 04, 2009 8:57 pm

Rou doesn't really know himself, to be honest. He doesn't think it's because the people are mean per-se... At least it was what his master had said.

His master had said that it was because their lifestyles were very different. That most people don't understand why sorcerers live and act the way they do. Rou does his best to be nice, because he doesn't like being mean. That's how he is, really.

But, that isn't really important, is it ? If there is something bothering Ruokei, something that Rou can help with... He would very much like to, if Ruokei allows him to.

Ruokei hesitated, then nodded slowly, frowning down at his hands for a long moment as his brain drifted back to that odd, uncomfortable day at the udon-ya. That girl... Kiku... something... she had tried to comfort Ruokei. Did he dare to think that such a move would comfort Rou in turn? He had to try.

One hand reached out, resting on Rou's arm. His fingers were spread over Rou's sleeve, feeling the fabric lightly as he tried to project comfort to the other boy.

Ruokei doesn't like the idea of people making Rou unhappy. If Rou wants to help Ruokei... then Ruokei will let him. What's bothered him is that he's forgotten something important.

The gesture seemed somewhat foreign to you, but he smiled, wide and gently.

Ruokei is a very nice person. The only ones that had really bothered to do something for him like that were his father and his master. Rou is very happy right now, because it is the present that matter. He does his best not to let things wear him down, but some days it's harder than others.

When Ruokei mention forgetting something important, Rou frowns slightly, projecting his worry freely. If Ruokei can tell him since how long he had forgotten, Rou might be able to find it...

Once he'd seen Rou honestly smile, Ruokei withdrew his hand. It just felt... strange, leaving it resting on someone else's arm. Uncomfortable, but not badly so. And not startling, like it had with the girl.

Ruokei doesn't know how long it's been, he said instead, reaching out to pick a blade of grass and hold it up to his eyes. He could feel his cheeks beginning to burn with embarrassment at the thought of forgetting and not knowing, but it never has made any sense to him. Ruokei just knows that he can't remember, and it makes him unhappy.

Hmmm... Well, Rou will try his best... Though they will need to find some water first. Maybe there is a lake in the park... Ruokei can came and watch, or wait here if he would prefer. Rou does not actually remember anything he does while Seeing, but he's been told he can be a little... different.

He'd never actually gotten anyone to explain just what that different was supposed to mean, but he just hopes it's not a bad different.

Before Ruokei could answer, Sailien made his way back, dark eyes peering thoughtfully at Rou for a moment before he answered for them both.

We will come.

Ruokei blinked, then smiled wryly, giving in without a fight as he moved to rise. Small hands dusted at his robes before he held out one hand, subconsciously letting the sleeve slip down to cover his palm as he offered help to Rou.

Rou will do his best, he promises, and takes the offered hand, without bothering with his own sleeve, and without any confusion or hurt feelings coming from the gesture.

He then looks around, pondering. He thought he had seen... ahhh, over there ! There's the pond. And he starts heading in that direction, slowly so Ruokei could keep in line with him.

Ruokei followed just behind Rou, with Sailien bringing up the rear. Already, Sailien's natural hunting skills were beginning to show. His paws were silent on the grass, and he blended all too well into the darknesses under brush and in the hollows of tree roots.

Ruokei wasn't nearly so graceful, but he wasn't graceless, either. He was simply... himself, a young boy in unfamiliar but somehow comfortable terrain.

Ruokei likes this place, he noted as they approached the pond. The wind around them made the water lap gently against the edges, and the soft sound made Ruokei smile. Ruokei finds it soothing.

It is very soothing, Rou agrees - a nice cool wind. It makes him very comfortable as well.

When he arrives at the pond, he sits down once more. Rou is going to try and get started now...

He waits for a moment, letting his mind empty before focusing on the pond, almost as if he's not staring at it, but though it. The change is almost immediate - Rou seems to stand just a little straighter, a tad more confidence emanating from him - in his trance, there is no room for doubts and what-ifs. If Ruokei attempts to talk to him, there is no answer - as if he was not quite there anymore.

The surface of the water rippled slightly, with nothing physical having caused the movement.

Rou sees...

Nothing at all.

Which is not to say he sees nothing. He sees Nothing - darkness, blackness so deep that light simply is not able to pass though. The darkness shift, and... in the middle of it, there is Ruokei. Alone. Unmoving.

Then there is light. The light takes Ruokei out of the Nothing, slowly, gently.

and then...

...

...

Rou Sees no more, it seems, and snaps out of his trance, silent for a moment as he tries to get his baring back.

Ruokei watched the other boy in silence, moving to sit down nearby. As he waited, he could feel his stomach churning, nerves creeping in. What would Rou discover? Was there anything to discover, anything for him in the past at all? His small fingers twisted together in a subtle nervous twitch, and his eyes flicked between the water and Rou, as though he might be able to discern something of what Rou was seeing.

Sailien watched the two for a long moment, then padded to Ruokei. As silently as the others, he slipped into Ruokei's lap, shoving his way under the boy's hands so that Ruokei could stop twisting and pulling at his own fingers and start petting the soft fur. There was comfort to be had there, and as impish and devilish as Sailien could be, he didn't like it when Ruokei was nervous.

Rou shakes his head, once, twice - but then he seems to be "back", so to speak.

....So, had that helped Ruokei with anything... ? He doesn't quite remember what he says during trance, so...
PostPosted: Mon Jun 08, 2009 7:24 am

Ruokei's shoulders relaxed a bit as he saw Rou seem to come 'back', but he continued to pet Sailien. His brains started to settle, but every time he thought about what Rou had offered of his vision, they whirled back up anew, and when Rou finally asked if it had helped, Ruokei was forced to shake his head slowly. He still knew nothing. He still had no ideas.

And yet...

And yet...

Ruokei looks at Rou with confusion writ across his face, an unhappy twist to his mouth, and yet his eyes were beginning to clear of their discomfort. Maybe not-knowing was his destiny. Maybe his was a destiny to push forward, despite this.

Ruokei's words, as he finally answered, were slow and uncertain but,

Ruokei thinks maybe it has helped, after all.

Zero Dream
Ahhhh...

Rou is sorry the divination wasn't really clear, but..

But he thinks Ruokei might have a point. After all, it is not the past that is important, but the future. After all, you can't change the past.
