Hitsuga jolts at the sharp crisp projection of joy that permeates the room, finding that it cuts through his mire of upset enough to, at least, rein it back to a manageable level so that it is not quite straining at the seams anymore.

As joy is replaced with a horror, however, the beginnings of a smile die just as quickly as they surface.

They hadn't said anything about anything like this.... he answers privately, looking warily at the doctor.

The human continues, however, to be unrattled by their reaction as he draws out a pad of paper and begins to write on it. "It isn't as bad as it sounds." he explains. "They're going to take a sample of your blood to run some tests on, and while they're doing that..."

He tears the top sheet of paper off of the pad and offers it to her. "....you two can take this to the pharmacy just across the street and have them fill it for you. This is just a generic prescription for this sort of pain. We can step it up, or cut it back depending. Or, if it just isn't working out, depending on what the bloodwork tells us, we can put you on a different sort entirely. But this should make you feel much better."

Baikou nods slowly, though she still seems rather unsure, and keeps glancing from the human doctor to the Porcelain man; "How much blood, exactly?" Baikou asks, in a slightly wavering voice, holding private inside her mind the images of last-resort bleeding techniques of which she knows from the Empire.

... But when he offers the prescription, she brightens again. She seems to mentally splutter for a second, a bit off-balance, before she reaches out to take the paper delicately in her fingers. "Thank you, Master Dr. Brown," she says softly, radiating feelings of gratitude and relief. "I am very happy to finally have a name for this pain and a plan of action."

She pauses, though, and with a slightly furrowed brow asks, "But if I should have an adverse reaction, what should we do...?"

At the first question, he scoots his chair back a bit to rummage in the drawers of his desk, at last coming out with a smallish unused syringe, still in its wrapping. Tearing the plastic off, he holds it where she can see it.

"They won't need much. Let's say...." the human murmurs thoughtfully, slowly pulling back the plunger about halfway on the small plastic cylinder. ".....let's say about that much."

A clearly-confused projection issues from Hitsuga....enough so that it attracts Dr. Brown's attention as he turns his gaze quizzically on the other male. Flinching at the thought having escaped, the perfumer looks to the floor.

Forgive this one. Wh--what he means is, he tries to clarify. Is that he isn't sure how such a small amount can tell Dr. Brown anything at all...

"Well," the human begins, resting his hands on either of his knees. "I could explain it to you, if you like, but it might take awhile, and I get the feeling there's plenty of places the two of you would rather be than here today." he adds with a chuckle, turning his attention back to Baikou before Hitsuga has a chance to fall over himself with apologies and having not meant any disrespect.

"If you start to feel anything strange....numbness, if you're sleeping a lot more than you should be, loss of appetite, I want you to stop taking the pills and give me a call." he tells her, reaching over to fetch a small card from his desk to hand it to her as well, on which has been neatly printed his name, the clinic's name, and a number. "We'll get your dosage readjusted as needed until we find something that works."

It's not an insignificant pinch of blood, but... yes, actually, it does not look that bad. Baikou nods, seeming to be a bit more relieved. "And is there somewhere to eat something sweet nearby?"

As for Hitsuga's doubt that the doctors could learn anything from a small blood sample, she chipperly (perhaps too chipperly) informs him that accomplished Wood mages are often able to read the health of blood in remarkable detail, similarly to the way that he can read the properties of essential oils. Though, true, that information tends to be a bit vague, with all the other advances in Gaian technology she is sure that the clinic's Wood Mages have the tools they need to get much more detailed readings...

... The scholar-drivel seems to be taking Baikou's mind off of more unpleasant things, and she pushes herself off the table without too much difficulty, the bows to Dr. Brown. "Thank you," she repeats, "we are indebted to you."

... ... ...

But hopefully Baikou will not have to be near-naked for this last procedure...

Hitsuga blanches at the too-pleasant admonishment and hesitantly nods once. He's sorry. He knows. He knows. He just--

Not being able to think of how to phrase his thought in the way he'd like to, he leaves it open-ended instead and falls silent. As he's not helping things here, he finds it best to simply allow the doctor to talk.

"The gift shop in the lobby sells some candy, if you want, but you can probably find it cheaper at the pharmacy." the human tells her. "Or if you'd rather, there's a cafeteria downstairs, and they have chicken, and pudding, and sodas and....all kinds of good stuff." he says, making a slight dismissive gesture at the air.

At the hesitant projection, Dr. Brown laughs, picking up his clipboard once more. "No, we're done with that part." he tells her. "Whenever you're ready, you can go ahead and get dressed. If you follow the hallway to your right as you leave, the lab will be right there. I'll go ahead and let them know to expect you."

And then, offering a hand, "You are very welcome. You guys take care?"

Baikou quickly sends reassuring, though still-cheerful feelings to Hitsuga. These are just interesting things she's been hearing from her colleagues -- she could tell Hitsuga more, if he likes?

And hopefully so that she will not have to silently watch blood leaving her body...

Baikou seems relieved to hear that there will be something to restore her energy nearby and that she will not have to be undressed anymore. She bows slightly again, opening her mouth to issue more thanks, and then...

... peers curiously at the offered hand, and glances at Hitsuga questioningly.

Hitsuga looks back at her, and then down to the doctor's hand.

Its something they--

Well, he's seen it done, but....erm....

All of this passes between them in the span of a couple of seconds before, drawing in another breath, he steps meekly forward to take Dr. Brown's hand in his own, allowing it to be given a single enthusiastic shake by the human male who, apparently having deemed their meeting at a close, gives them one last smile, and leaves.

Seeming relieved that they have avoided insulting Dr. Brown, he breathes a sigh, though his hand, on its own, rubs itself at his sleeve as if its just touched something unclean.

Gaians, he tells Baikou, are very fond of touching one another... sweatdrop

Baikou... sees?

... ... ... And, furthermore, she projects privately to Hitsuga, she is grateful that Hitsuga stepped in for her. Though it is only a small contact, it could end up painful for her if she flares up just at that moment.

She nods to the doctor. Aloud, she supposes that she will dress now, then take Hitsuga to the blood-working lab, and then pick up some pills and candy... ... ...

She pauses to note Hitsuga's reaction.

If he protests to this idea, he is keeping it to himself. It seems, indeed, anything that will get them out of the clinic and back to the quiet sanity of the house with Baikou feeling better for it is fine as far as he's concerned.

Baikou is...very welcome, he tells her, the corner of his mouth twitching up into a half-smile. And he hopes that, after all of this and now that they have put a name to her ailment, Gaian medication will serve her better than what she was being given at home.

....and then he turns away, once more facing the wall, to allow her to dress in privacy.

... Well, if he isn't running out of the room in terror, that's progress.
