Zia nodded, retrieving a deck of the tarot cards that constantly fell from its wings. Holding them out, it offered them to Lauss. "You may have these, too, for practicing with." It led the proto over to the table so he could go through the deck if he wanted to.
Faolan grinned, making a soft noise in his throat. "Very well, lass." He picked the deck up and shuffled them with only his left hand, then held them out to Lee, leaning closer to the girl as if sharing a secret. "Think hard on what it is you'd like to know and cut the deck, then let me see the card you pick. We'll start with it."

So kind! Lauss took the offered cards and looked at the one on the top. He got his very own deck of pretty cards. How lucky. Following Ziazan to the table, he set down his books and spread the cards around, much like a child would when shuffling. Looking them all over carefully, he tilted his head at the sight. ""These all have different meanings?" It seemed complicated. This would be a blast to learn. The more in depth the better, after all.
Lee's eyes widened, highly impressed with Faolan's shuffling skills. He had experience, that was certain. How could she not believe in this? He knew what he was doing, and that story before really sealed the deal. She shifted slightly, watching Faolan's skill in action. Relieved a bit to hear she wouldn't have to ask anything out loud, she wondered how to word her question... Hm. Lee shut her eyes tight, concentrating as best she could. What will my love life be like in the near future? That seemed to work. Not too specific, not too vague. Or at least she hoped. Of all the things to ask, with Faolan sitting in front of her, she couldn't remember anything else that needed answering. She tugged out a card and placed it on the bed to where they could both see it clearly, looking up at Faolan to hear what he had to say about it.

Zia nodded at the question. "The meanings aren't always tied to the images, either. The cards I molt are interesting enough, but you should see Faolan's deck sometime, the one his Grandmother gave him. It actually can tell real fortunes. It only seems to work for him, though." The alter couldn't resist boasting a little, proud of its owner's talent.
Faolan looked down at the card--Eight of Cups, reversed. Well, then. He looked up at her, a smile tugging playfully at his lips. "Seems you've got a new love interest, girl. Want to know more about him? Or perhaps how to win him over?"

Lauss tilted his head. "These do not tell real fortunes?" He wondered what the use was, then, for such cards. They were still pretty, so they had that going for them. He held one up, looking over it carefully, and holding it up for Ziazan. "So... This card. What would this mean?" How interesting.
Lee's eyes widened, her cheeks growing deep red. He really had no clue then? "I..." She looked down at the card simply to avert looking into his eyes. "Could you tell me both? I mean, the second one is more important I think." She blushed. "But I'd like to know both." So getting him was more important than knowing him? This was indeed a shallow crush, but Lee didn't realize that.

"Some people would think the fortune telling is fun. There are some that believe in it, though," Ziazan explained, then peered at the card. "Ten of Cups usually stands for a happy family life, true friendships, and lasting happiness. Reversed, though, it can be a quarrel or loss of friendship."
"Lookin' to land your prospective lover, are you?" the man chuckled, picking up the cards, leaving the Eight of Cups on the bed between them. Again he shuffled the deck with his left hand and held them out to the girl to cut. "Let's see what Grandmother's deck says on how to reel your man in."

Oh. Fun. "I see." These were entertaining to look at, but when using them, they would be even more entertaining? His mind was set. He must learn how to tell fortunes. He listened to every word out of Ziazan's mouth, repeating it in his head and out loud once. It was stuck forever. "So all these cards' meanings will be in this book?" He patted the one Ziazan was giving him, proud to look at it again. Oh the joys he'd get reading it.
He's laughing? He really didn't know... This was cruel. This was so low. But she wanted to know so badly, whether or not she used the information given. She focused on the deck and pulled one out randomly, placing it on the bed as she'd done before. "What does this mean?" Her voice was quiet as she stared down at the card in front of her.

The alter nodded. "Aye, lad. All the explanations are in there, plus a few other things about interpretations and the like." It could tell it's brother would be enjoying the knew knowledge.
Faolan studied the card as the girl lay it before him, a soft rumbling noise in his chest. "Seven of Pentacles is a good card for this, I think. You want this lad you're in love with, it's gonna take some effort and hard work, true enough. Probably some reevaluations, too, more on his part, I think, though." He looked up at her, golden eyes sparkling in the dim light cast by the lamps in the room. "Well, now you know what that it won't be easy, and often thems the best kinds of relationships. If you gotta put effort into it, it goes better. After all, if you love the guy, you gotta be willin' to fight for 'im." He nodded at his own words, gathering up the cards, leaving the two out that had already been cast. The deck was once more shuffled and offered to her. "Let's see what more there can be done to help you win the man over."

Lauss flipped through the book, pointing out specific pictures and asking questions, whatever applied at the time. So much knowledge gained from this magical place.
Lee couldn't help but rub the side of her face. This was good news, right? She could get him. But... this felt awful. She prayed, for Ellandra's sake, that his wife would come home early and keep Lee from knowing anymore than she was about to. But she was already in pretty deep now, wasn't she? There really weren't many options. Press forward, or abandon ship. This young lady happened to be too stubborn for the latter, and so a third card was pulled. Let's see what this one had to say.

Zia was all too happy to answer its brother's questions, liking sharing its knowledge with those interested. Perhaps teaching the other Essentics to play fortune telling games was its gift to its siblings.
"Queen of Wands," Faolan purred, examining the card, eyes half-closing in concentration. "Looks like your man wants someone that is naturalistic and kind, someone who wants to settle down and have a family. The Queen here shows a person that is commanding and attractive, and you got that down already, love. It's also a sign that you must be honorable and appealing to this man." He gave her a wry grin. "I doubt you have much trouble there, either. Think that with all you have to already offer, so long as you love nature and have a desire for a family someday, you should have no troubles with gettin' the man you got your sights on to notice you."
He picked up the deck and shuffled it again, then held it out to her. "What else do you want to know about him?"

They'd nearly finished looking at all the cards, and Lauss was reviewing them over as they went. "Ziazan, do you think we could practice once before I leave?" That would help. To see it in action.
Seriously, how was Faolan not getting that "her man" was him? Read the cards, man, come on.
Naturalistic and kind. That... really wasn't her at all. And settling down with a family... Lee couldn't help but choke a little when hearing that part. It was a little soon to be thinking about that now, wasn't it? It got better after that, it seemed. Or at least, he seemed to think it did. She was commanding and attractive? If Fao said so... Though she couldn't help but blush when he did. Be honorable, sure, she could do that. And... be appealing. That was all a matter of opinion. So, she was missing a few it seemed.
"That... kind of sounds like Ellandra, doesn't it?" ... I said that out loud, didn't it? She sighed a bit. If he hadn't understood that she was talking about him this whole time, it was a bit unlikely he'd realize it now. Perhaps he knew and just didn't want to admit it? She looked over to him with his next question... That seemed unlikely.
She cleared her throat quietly before looking down and asking, "What sorta guy is he?"

"Of course we can. You know how to shuffle the deck, right?" Ziazan asked, ready to show him how if he didn't. "It's probably best to use a simple pattern to start with."
Faolan watched her, tilting his head a bit when she mentioned Ellandra. "I suppose she has some of them qualities, but honestly, most of those are things men like. I mean, I like all that in a woman, but she's gotta have a sense of adventure and humor, too." At her question, he shuffled the deck, cut and drew The Fool. "This man you're keen on, he's adventurous, passionate, sometimes rash and thoughtless, but kind. There's many opportunities and a chance for a new beginning with him."
He regarded her quietly, eyes narrowed slightly in thought. Well, the girl was much like his wife, it only made sense she might be attracted to a boy that seemed much like him. He looked down at the deck and drew another card--Strength. "He's also rather courageous and determined. The sort of man that is never short on energy, always motivated to action. He's got a lot of convictions and might be a bit stubborn in those beliefs." He grinned at her playfully, not able to help the slightly seductive mood to his expression. "Also seems to be a rather virile man and vigorous, the sort of man that would be happy to father as many children as you'd like to have, were you wantin' that."

"Shuffle?" Nope. Not a clue. He hadn't even heard that word before, let alone tried it himself. "Please show me." Lauss nodded. How exciting! Practice makes perfect, and if he kept this up, perhaps practicing on Lee, he'd be pro in no time.
That couldn't be true, could it? All men liked the same kind of woman. And that kind of woman wasn't Lee at all. And it only got worse. Adventure and humor; Lee couldn't bear leaving the house without a great deal of motivation, and most jokes she heard were way over her tiny little head. Lee wasn't anything like the kind of woman Fao would want. But she could be, couldn't she? Or rather, she could pretend to be. It didn't occur to her that no stable relationship could form from such a foundation, but she probably wouldn't have cared anyway.
"Virile" was a new term. Look that one up later. For now, though, she could pick up just slightly on his meaning behind the rest, putting the pieces together to fully understand. Wow. Her cheeks were deep red once again, and she coughed a bit to catch her breath. Where were we again? "Could I ask something else? Like... can these tell the future?" She nodded her head toward the cards a bit, wondering if she could actually ask, straight forward, "Do I have a chance?"

"It's really easy to learn and if you get good at it, then you can do all sorts of neat tricks with the shufflin' to be fancy," Ziazan said, shuffling the deck normally, and then with one hand to illustrate its point. It set the deck on the table before Lauss. "Just try shuffling normally for now."
Faolan shrugged a bare shoulder, considering it. "Sometimes they can. Did you have somethin' in mind you needed knowin'?" He leaned back a little, resting his back against the wall at the head of the bed, moving so one long leg was stretched out over the side of the bed, the other still tucked under him somewhat.

Ooh, fancy shuffling? Lauss was interested. There was even room for learning in preparing to tell fortunes. He studied Ziazan's movements carefully, watching his technique and even mimicking it in the air as he went along. His turn now. He reached out and tried his best to shuffle exactly as he had seen Ziazan do a moment ago, and while for the most part he succeeded without cards falling everywhere, he was rather slow. He was proud of himself, all the same. "That was good, right Ziazan?"
Lee's eyes wandered a bit as she wondered to herself if she should really ask. Meh, the only thing that could happen would be for her to look a little foolish. And for her hopes to be crushed. That too. As Faolan relaxed, Lee stiffened even more, her posture suddenly getting much better than normal. "W-would I be able to ask if I even have a chance with... this guy."

Zia grinned. "That was a good first try. Keep at it and you'll be a master with the cards in no time."
Faolan made a soft noise in the back of his throat, then leaned forward, shuffling the deck again, going through the motions to draw a card for her, laying down the Four of Cups, reversed. He licked his lips and looked up at her. "Looks like you do, so long as you're willin' to act on your feelin's." He shuffled and drew again, studying the new card he'd drawn--The Sun, also reversed--and laid it down. "I'm not sure on this one, lass. Usually The Sun is a positive card, and a good thing for castin' on romance, but like this, it just clouds the future all up and I can't get a good bead on it. Best I can tell from this and the other is you do have a chance with the guy if you want to go for it, but there's some consequences involved. There's loneliness and unhappiness and a broken relationship. I just can't tell though if you'd be hurtin' him or rescuin' him from where he is now."
He rested back against the wall again, sighing softly and watching her. "Wish I was more help. All I can say, cards aside, is if you really like this lad, then you have to just go for it and see where it takes you. He might be in a relationship already, goin' by the cards, but sometimes love is worth fightin' for, if you really want it." He shrugged slightly. "Anythin' else you wanna know?"
