He-he, ok...

Ah, but you forget... if plants like trees and tangle weeds get all over the rock then their roots will slowly, but surely, break the building apart.
I was thinking more of a building made with some kind of adaptable technology so that for every centimeter a plant's roots move, the building can shift somewhat in order to compensate. That way, both the building and the plants won't have any problem at any point in time.
eh im all out of ideas XD

A style of building that would adapt well with the changing natural habitat would have to be one made out of the same materials as the area. In one story I read (though I don't know how it would actually be made irl) There's a hut made of mud and moss, somewhat underground. So the roots of the trees actually hold the earth back on the wall and stabilize the structure. Then a roof of moss and wood would be less likely to be overgrown with other plants and would remain longer than just a stone or brick structure. That's just my idea though, it would probably have to be greatly improved.

As far as forests go... I will post a pic of some of my enchanted places. ^_^ I'm relatively picky about my pictures... In any case, irl I find forests in more northern places quite likeable, though not alpine forests... more new-england flavored with a variety of trees capable of winter hibernation.

Though in fantasy... I currently have a forest that is the classic new-england style with a little bit of Fae and lore. Basically the kind one would imagine a fairy tale to unfold into. Save the ruins of an old palace in the forest is home to the seven "lords of chaos" who use the forest and surrounding regions like a giant chessboard to challenge eachother with. They influence the decisions of the ruling individual of the surrounding lands and entertain themselves with the proceedings.

There is also the "Forest of Eyes" based off a tree I saw irl that has white bark and black eye-shaped markings where a branch is removed. Unlike most foreboding forests, this one is fully lighted because of the distance of the trees, but the lore of it says it's so the eyes can see intruders better and communicate with their master. It's probably not a new take on the idea, but I like it all the same.

ok... In the current conversation... I got nothing.

now... with forests, that is a different story.

In one of my many stories, I have a forest called Kelhnora Denaln (Elven for Forest of the Phoenixes) that is very sacred to the elves that live nearby, for that is the hatching place of the local phoenixes. There are also Suhora Birds (Giant birds that hunt dragons, but can easily settle for hippogryphs and gryphons) Hippogryphs, Gryphons, as well as deer, foxes, weasels, wild cats, mice, rats, etc. The trees there are mainly rare fire-resistant maple trees, as well as oaks. The undergrowth is thin there because there is little light hitting the forest floor but there are ferns and other types of plants/weeds (very spread out). The trees are tall and you often see a few flames over the forest, sort of giving it an orange glow. The atmosphere there is normal, but also serene. There are also enchantments to curse any humans/elves that enter with thoughts of harming or capturing the phoenixes or any other wildlife there. Plus, if any human gets too far in, the humans suffer a fatal/near fatal wound. The soil is volcanic, so it is extremely fertile.

Hmm...I like the rain forest, the amazon one to be more specific. There's practically everything there, and the animals and plant life tend to be supersized, strong, bright-colored, dangerous or calming as well as very diverse. Since the air is very humind, it feels magical because you feel as if you can feel everything that is in that jungle, and it's very beautiful as well. It's hot there too, so there are many different minerals and rocks with lots of luster that may look like precious stones despite not being one. The animals that live there are not only bigger than anywhere else, but some are so strange that you'd really think they stepped out of someone's imagination.

That's ok, don't worry about it.

Great idea Ellia!

Sure, post as many pics of your enchanted places as you like! 3nodding
Winter hibernation, eh? Sounds good!
Oh, a giant chessboard you say? That seems pretty cool.
Huh? You also have a forest of eyes? Nice going! At least the name sounds interesting. I always wondered if plants could see in the first place and it seems those trees of yours can!

It's ok, you don't have to continue a conversation to post. It's good if you have something to say about magical forests or alike.

Wow! A forest where a phoenix can go and lay an egg? Not a bad idea! Congrats! It seems you have an entire ecosystem over there so that deserves a bit more praise. I like what you done with that place of yours. What sort of magic is it that harms intruders anyway? Are you free to share that or would it ruin the surprise?

He-he, that seems pretty cool too. I like the part about how "they stepped out of someone's imagination" but, shouldn't it be: they "came" out? And of course they did! They came out of your imagination after all, didn't they? wink

Uhhhh.... The magic depends on the person

It prys into their deepest fears and uses it against them. Or if they have no fears it erases their memory and drives them to the nearest human village. If they have no fears and their mind is shielded then...

Well I can't tell you that, It will ruin the story!

Hmm, that sounds very intriguing. I'm glad you were able to share this much already. I don't think you need to say anything else about that.
Did you know that in the realm of Magic The Gathering, the Llanowar elves punish intruders by breaking a bone in the intruder's body for each branch broken by said intruder? That seems pretty harsh to me, how about you?

Hey! Don't just change your name without telling us. It's confusiiiiiiiiiiiing! xd

Don't take me too seriously on that though... I enjoy kidding around.
However, if you want to post about a thing like that (name change), you could let us know by posting at a thread on the main forum. I can't remember the exact name but it should still be there.
Say, you wouldn't happen to be related to Jack Sparrow, would you? See? I just can't help myself sometimes... rofl

He-he, I'm glad to see my joke wasn't offensive or anything. It's also very good to have a newbie with a sense of humor. Please go ahead and browse around in case you don't feel like posting in just one place.

BTW, if you have something to say about a garden you like, preferably a magical or mythical garden, then please post about that here. 3nodding

That could be but I do know that in some cases it's actually about the place and not the creatures that dwell within that makes the forest as it is. It's kind of like with haunted mansions or places like that.
In the case of my "sleep forest", it's not about the creatures that live in the forest cuz anything that steps in the premises falls asleep and can't come out so eventually, they wither and die. Well, every living being except for plants cuz otherwise, there wouldn't be a forest in the first place. xd

Forest of The Past

Inhabitants-Elves, several small dragons.(horse sized), and centaur.
* Flora -Many unusual flowers, bright colors, too many to describe. Almost no fungi. Trees at shortest 8 m. tall.
* Fauna - Small dragons, wolves, deer, the odd unicorn, pegasii, wolverines.
* Minerals - Unknown. Soil has and odd silver-blue color to it.
* Atmosphere - Heavy atmosphere, thick with magic and an odd, ancient presence.
* Magic - There is powerful magic, good and bad, balancing each other out. two Powerful presences, one good, one evil. most likely ancient beings of the past. Believed to be two of the ancient dragons. Strange things happen, and time often appears to be standing perfectly still. Lesser creatures overcome by sudden bouts of rage and bloodlust on occasion.

The forest is a dangerous place. To survive there, you need weapons, but most weapons, suck as guns and crossbows, do not work. Two of the few which do work are bow-and-arrows, and spears. The elves prefer to hunt with spears. The elfish village lies in the forest's center, beware of the wolves andd miniature dragons.
