I got mine when i was 11, in grade 5. And since i got the talk a month afterwards, I'm just like SHOOT! and all the things my mom told me i already knew. If you spent a day in my Class, thats the only thing they talk about. But it was weird. But it is not a bad thing. If you didn't have your period, you could not reproduce and it will be the end of all human kind! it should be coming around today... wait bathroom!ok then well thats my story! Aww total cramps!

Mmm... I remember getting mine in 8th grade. I think I was... 13, 14? Bah. Whatever.

Well, when I got up in the morning and started getting ready for school, I used the bathroom and noticed after wiping myself (Yeah, I know. Gross.), the toilet paper was tinted pink. I didn't think too much of it, that I had just wiped myself too hard. sweatdrop

So, whatever.

That day, my mom and I had to go do some shopping and we drove home from school (she works as a teacher at my old school) and before we left, I used the bathroom.

eek

I was like, "Oh my god... No!" and was freaking out.

See, in my culture (I'm Native American), when a girl gets her first period, she has to get this big ole' huge ceremony done on her, called a "Kinaalda" and the whole family gets together and everyone makes a big deal out of it. And well, I didn't want to go through that. I mean, seriously, no one has to know I'd started getting my period, right?! gonk So I didn't tell my mom and we went shopping as planned. I remember just stuffing my undies with toilet paper and hoping to god I didn't leak.

Well, two days went by, and I was wondering how to tell my mom. So one day after school, I just marched up to her classroom after school let out and told her.
"Mom, guess what?"
"What?"
"I've gotten my period." redface
"..."

And yeah. Of course, she had to tell everyone, and the next day, my dad was bugging me to bless him (Apparently, the first time to have your period, the next couple of days you're considered "Holy") so he'd win the lottery. stare b*****d.

Well yeah. Time marched on, and I never did get my Kinaalda. I feel kinda bad about it, but oh well. Too late now.

I got mine just this summer. Of course I woke up in the morning to find myself bleeding like I got a limb cut off, but what's worse, my mom was out of town! And I had a flag camp to go to. So I didn't know exactly what to do. lol

But I figured it out on my own. Hurray for me.

I have a friend my age who is SO upset she hasn't started yet. She doesn't understand how lucky she is!

I was at my friends pool party and I was 11 and in 5th grade. I had to go home and get ready for my dance recital and I was changing into my clothes when I noticed that there was blood in her(she let me use one of her old ones)bathing suit bottoms. I finished changing and rode my bike home. I didn't have any pads or tampons but my grandmother did. They were really nasty and thick. It was SO hard to dance in.

I don't wear tampons unless I really need to. I just think that pads feel better for me.

I think I was 12 as well. I knew it was coming, because the month before, I'd been at my Dad's house and had gotten a few drops of blood. Soooo I dreaded it all month, because I knew I'd have to tell my mom, which was really embarrassing. XD; But when it happened, she pretty much left me alone after showing me where the pads were, so it wasn't too bad. Except that I felt really sick for the first month. Ugh. razz A few times I just had to lay there completely motionless so as not to puke. But that was only the first time, and every period since then has been peachy. mrgreen

Actually, the worst thing about the first time was neither the embarrassment nor the nausea. It was the PADS. JESUS. I knew right away that I was NOT going to wear those things every month for the rest of my life, (how can some of you stand them? ^^;;; Horrible warm soggy fat crinkly things - even the small ones - between your legs. You can't do ANY sort of activity in them...) so the next month I switched to tampons. Aaaah, tampons, how I adore thee. heart (Not those silly, skinny little ones with the weird applicator apparatus, either. I didn't know those existed until a few years later.;;; )

Oh wow, I dunno if I would have been able to stand that. XD;;;;; And she told everyone, but you didn't get your Kinaalda? Minus two points! You should have gotten the whole thing, or she should just not have told anyone at all. XD;;; Halfway is worse than either!

I was 12 when I got my first period.

I was in 6th grade and on my summer break.

My Dad, little brother and I were going to go swimming that day. I put on my bathing suit but once I put it on I had to go to the bathroom(I hate when that happens. >.<). So I went and then noticed that there was some blood inside my bathing suit. My thoughts on it were, 'Oh my gosh! Am I on my period? Nooo! Mommy's not here and I don't really know what to do!'. After using the bathroom I got really nervous, but then thought that since I'd be in water my period would stop. So the three of us got into the car but then it's started raining. I smiled knowing now that I wouldn't have to worry so much. Once I got back into the house I grabbed my cell phone and called my Mom. Telling her that I thought I was on my period she started freaking out which made me really, really nervous to the point where I just started crying. She said she'd get off work as soon as she could and that I should tell my Dad. I hung up and slowly walked downstairs. After a few minutes of just walking around the kitchen I walked into the living and told my Dad that I thought I was on my period. Then the phone rang, it was my Mom. My Dad answered the phone and talked to her for awhile. Once he hung up he looked at me and smiled and said, "Your mother's going to freak out for awhile..." I laughed and then went upstairs, putting a pad on. After a few minutes my Mom came home and talked to me making sure I was okay. Then every single time I saw her she would ask me if I was okay and how I was doing. whee

Murr, I was about 11...I think... My family has a history of horrible periods, crippling crapms, heavy periods, etc. Yeah, so mine were always heavy and painful. -Pouts-, but then it got worse. confused I think it was probably dehydration mixed with genetics, but I began getting very light headed and fainted every time I got my period on the first day, but not only did my vision grey out and I collapse on the floor. I usually collapse on hard-wood flooring or tiles because it cools me down. But then I would get this agonizing pain for about an hour. I would basically get up, feel dizzy and go to get a drink or somehow cool myself down, but then my vision would grey out and then I would collapse onto the ground where I would proceed to roll around on the ground in agony for an hour straight.

Yuck. The first time it happened I think I was 12, I had done a lot of outdoor activities woth my grandfather for the past few days and I didn't really drink anything, so the next morning I collapsed on his tile flooring in the kitchen. For an hour I was in pain and he never woke up. I crawled back to bed after I could move and then he came and fussed at me to get up. evil I told him what happened and, of course, him being a guy sent me over to my aunts to where she proceded to tell him he was a bad guardian for not making me drink liquids.

Second time I was at home, got dizzy and came upstairs (My bedroom is downdstairs in a basement.) and collapsed on the couch. I was supposed to be going to school and my mum came and yelled at me for not getting ready for school. I explained the situation and she yelled at me again saying I was faking it and yelled that I should just go to bed and she would talk about it later. Damn, I was laying there on the couch, writhing in pain and that did NOT help me.

It happened a few more times, but I have been on birthcontrol to fix it and it seems to have gone away. (Touch wood. xd ) But I recently got very ill and was vomiting violently and I got the dizzy feeling again and that did not help out with that, I was more or less vomiting from around 2 in the morning through the night, and I had a fever for about a week. Eww. It didn't help that I had sushi for dinner. sweatdrop

I am almost afraid to get my period now because of the fainting spells. But thanks to the miracle of birthcontrol I seem to be ok. biggrin

New Year's day when I was 11, and like Lunashock I was confused about what it was at first because it wasn't red or pink, it was brown and tissue-y. I had our sex-ed talk on it the end of the school year before and a little Always booklet about first periods and I still wasn't prepared for that. XD

^ Um, you're 18 and still irregular? Your mother doesn't have any say at this point, get on the pill and regulate out your cycle. It's normal the first couple of years but after 8...go talk to the gyno again without your mother this time.
