Rotting Gnarl ashlander_alpha My Hollow I knew you meant Mike but Trevor only has 1,000 posts. I think Ash, you have more than Trevor does. He got promoted because I talk to him alot on aim and when metal was popular in the guild, I had someone to cover every genre. Me: folk/viking/goth Trevor: Thrash/power/heavy Josh: Doom/heavy/death Digi: goth/avant garde/ experimental and whatever genres we didnt care to know, we found out. Hmmmn...*checks*
Actually, he has over 1600 posts. But I do still out-post him by exactly 610 posts, counting this one. While that was a noble ideal, I don't think we have enough inexperienced people here for that to be very useful. Mostly we all just burrow deeper into our preferred genres on our own with little assistance. At least, it seems that way.She meant, as opposed to 2,000. These are usually counted in thousands when they get that numerous. And yeah, it seems that way. I've been finding bands on my own just using various "if you like band A, you'll like band B" things, like Pandora, or iTunes' "Just For You" section. People are really only helpful when getting into a completely new genre, or for really obscure recs. What she meant was that everyone got huffy about it. If I wanted a Death Metal or doom metal rec I would go to Josh. If I wanted Power metal rec, I'd go to Trevor. It was helpful for the entire guild to know who exactly knows the most in what area. And as far as the post count is concerned look at Trevor's post count as opposed to Mine, or Josh's, or Digi's or Mike's. I promoted Trevor again, because his knowledge of Thrash and Power was far superior than anyone else in the guild. I also promoted him because we talked on aim alot and he was the sort of chap, minus some fail, that made a decent crew member. He listened to what I had to say, gave contructive criticism, was helpful, and promised to do what he would for the good of the guild. His post count did not earn him the position, his willingness did. He and I never got into it, and after Victum I will NEVER promote someone I get into it with, ever.

His post count did not earn him the position, his willingness did. He and I never got into it, and after Victum I will NEVER promote someone I get into it with, ever. Of course post count (or seniority, for that matter) is no good standard for giving someone a crew position. That makes sense for any guild. Neither is having a lot of knowledge about certain genres a good standard because the person could have a lot of knowledge, but still be a complete d**k. Take your example of Victum, for instance--he knew a lot about heavy and power metal, and knew far more than anyone in this guild about South/Central American metal bands in general. But he was still a wanker.
Your promotion of Kas demonstrates your reasoning. Correct me if I'm wrong, Kas, but a lot of the regs in this guild seem to be a bit more knowledgeable than you are when it comes to metal, and plenty of other people have been here longer than her. But she's mature, responsible, a regular, and, as far as I can tell, has the best interests of the guild at heart. That sounds like a solid rationale for promotion, the one I assume you used.

Ash: indeed, my knowledge of metal is less than at least half of the guild regulars.
cliff: please, don't ask. Enough to say he wasn't particularly good to Hollow and some few other people. And let's close this story with this post forever.

I'm not going to promote someone just because I like them, if they havent paid their dues here. I promoted Mike because he was here everyday, making a difference. He knew enough about Black Metal that we could use his knowledge. It's not only post count or only personality. Detication, Personality, Willingness, and Knowledge all go into making a good crew member. AND TRUST. Trust is a major issue. IF there isn't a level of trust, then you don't deserve be on crew.
