Belle nodded and motioned to the fridge where her and Mimosa's ABCs and 123s were hung proudly besides the phone numbers her father had left. "Papa's been teachin` me an` Mimosa to wite a little bit. I can spell my name an` evewything!"
The girl didn't wriggle as Ebony assisted her in situation the apron, and turned around happily once it was well in place. "Ta-da!"

"Looks good, sweetie." Ebony laughed lightly, snugging the cow girl and holding the recipe book up for her. "What letter do you think Gingersnaps start with, Belle?"

The small girl contemplated it for a moment before murring softly. "W-Well...it sounds wike it might stawt with 'J' or 'G'...I think it stawts with 'G' though." Upon her decision she looked up at Ebby, seeking confirmation and approval of her reasoning. "That's wight, isn't it? I'm not vewwy good at spelling yet..."

"Very good, Belle. It does start with a G." the older girl confirmed, letting the younger child see the book. It had tabs starting with each letter of the alphabet on the side and one could just grab the tab and go to those recipes. "Can you find the G tab so we can go to that part of the book?"

Pleased that she had answered correctly, Belle gained more confidence when asked to find the letter. "Alright!" She chirped happily, and began running her finger down the tabs. Ever so softly she named off each letter, to herself evidently, before her finger stalled on the tab after 'F'. "This is G! G for Gingewsnap!"

Using the pictures associated with each recipe she soon found the recipe and pointed it out to Ebby. Anxious to begin, she began gathering the ingredients listed, with Ebby's help, and incorporating them into dough to be baked. Soon enough a sheet was placed in the oven and the cookies well on their way, leaving them with some spare time.
As both shared the sentiment of not leaving Mimosa alone, they woke the girl gently and played games for a time. Charades, checkers, shadow puppets...everything they could think of, and keep Mimosa awake for, until the cookies were done and cooled. The girls both had a few and thanked Ebby for the delectable treats before the hour grew late and both girls found themselves yawning and nodding off a bit.

The older girl smiled a bit, casually walking over and cleaning up the game the girls had been in the middle of. Carefully, she reached down to pick each little one up. "Come on, I think it's time for bed." she intoned gently.
Upstairs, Ebony tucked the pair in, giving each a kiss on their foreheads. "Just stay awake a little while longer. I'm gonna call your fathers and let them say goodnight." she promised gently.

The two girls nodded in both senses of the word as they curled one into the other and awaited her return. Once their parents had been called and their tender goodnights said, both of the girls fell into a fast, comfortable slumber.
True to their word, Eilender managed to get them both home at a reasonable hour and thanked Ebby warmly for the care she'd placed into watching the girls, bidding her a fond farewell.
