Lunaria backed up slowly, staring out farther into the ocean, the wave moved quicker than she expected and caught her by surprise. "EEK!" Scrabling backwards the water kept rising, but only came midway up her legs, the sand filled in around her paws, making moving backwards difficult. "Dad, it won't let me go!" starting to get frightened she tripped as the sand slid and sat down smartly on her rump as the wave receded.

Ziggy couldn't help but chuckle, as he went and helped her up, "That's what happened to me the first time I was at the beach too. Except, I was an adult. It was embarassing. You gotta be careful because as the wave falls back it'll pull you, so don't fight it. Take a single step forward with the water when it pulls on your feet, and your feet will be free. Never fight the water, just go with the flow."
Another wave began to form and come forward again. He nuzzled her with his nose, "Go ahead and give it a shot."

"Don't fight it, but it will pull me out!" Thinking her father must truly be crazy that feeling of trust welled up. Looking at the water, the urge to run and meet it crashed over her, and she decided to give it a shot, jumping up and bounding to the wave, hitting it in two hops.
She giggled as the cool water splashed up her body, dampening her coat, and laughed as the wave receded, tickling her as it went, this time, she tried what Ziggy had said and moved forward with the water one paw at a time, and was surprised to find it worked, her paws were free! Stepping smartly backwards she stayed just out of reach of the next wave that was comming.
"This is fun, its like a game of tag!" Steping back farther out of the reach of the water she beamed up at her dad. "I like this! But I want to go farther in the water! Is that ok? "

Ziggy saw the the delight in Lunaria's eyes as the wave hit her, and when she asked if she could go deeper he had to think about it. Looking out at the water, he saw that the current wasn't that strong. He looked down at her, and said, "Let me go check the water and current first, okay?" He winked at her and then ran into the water. He went about 3 feet further into the water, and the wavers were now brushing past his feet and against his side. He felt the gentle pull of the water, and looked down feeling the sandy bottom with his paws. It was smooth and silty. He came out of the water, and nodded at Lunaria.
"You can go a bit more, but only to where you can touch, and if you want to go deeper later, we'll need to get the boogie board," He smiled and nodded, "But, like, don't worry about it. Because, like, I'll be by your side. Just stay close, little chica!"

Smiling with delight Lunaria bounded up to meet her father, beaming up at him. She gave his side a playful nudge as she dashed towards the water running in to where she estimated that the wave would hit her stomach. Spreading her legs she braced herself, digging her paws into the sand for purchase and waited for the wave to hit her. "Eeek! its cold!" She shuddered with delight and held her ground, feeling the wave start to receed knowing that it would try to pull her with it. Remember what her Father had said before she took a small step forward to make sure that her paws would be free in case she had to move. Giggling she turned to look over her shoulder to smile at her father.

Ziggy couldn't help but laugh at his daughter, and nuzzled her with his nose a little, "Such a fast learner! I'm like, so impressed!" Another swell began to build and head towards them, and he watched it slowly, and said, "The best way to be in peace with the ocean is to not fight it."
He took another step into deeper water and as the wave formed higher, he took a gulp of air and ducked under the wave, letting it pass completely over his body. He popped out of the water and shook the droplets from his hair
He looked back at Lunaria and said, "When you feel ready to like, go deeper, you'll learn that if you fight the wave, you'll waste a lot of energy, and it will be like, useless anyways. If you let the wave pass over you, the water will pull you up as the wave forms, and you can like, continue on easily." He took another step back and said, "Would you like to give it a try?"

She couldn't help but be struck by how natural ziggy looked in the water, he seemed truly in his element. She felt a bit of fear as his head dissapeared below the surface, and then came up again in another spot. Grinning even wider Lunaria nodded her head so quickly she made herself slightly dizzy. "This is great! Its so beautiful!"

Ziggy nodded, "Yeah, it is." He smiled, happy he could share this place with his daughter. He walked back up and stood beside his daughter. "Alrighty then, so like, when the wave is forming, and it's starting to rise what you are going to do, is like, lower your body, keep your paws loose, and hold your breathe. When the wave, hits you it'll feel cold, and it will knock you back a little bit lifting you out of the water, just let it. and when it's passed, and your feet have touched the sand again, stand up and you'll have your head above water again." He winked at her, and said, "It sounds confusing, but it really is very instinctive.... at least that's what Rico says."
"Now if you're nervous, I'll be by your side the whole time. And when you're ready to give it a shot, after a wave passes we'll take a few steps forward, and give it a go. Sound good?" He smiled at her, full of confidence.

Lunaria listened carefully to Ziggy's words, making an effort to turn them over in her head and make sure they made sense. It all seemed complicated, she didn't see how it could be instinctual when before her instinct before was to fight the wave, and that was wrong.
Looking out over the vast wide ocean, Lunaria suddenly felt small, insignificant, and nervous. She was struck with the sudden realization of how dangerous this could be, despite its beauty. She looked up at Ziggy, " Will you stay close to me, promise not to let the wave take me away, please?" As she spoke she shrank a bit closer, side stepping towards her fathers larger figure, seeking comfort in being close to him, that at least was instinctual.

Ziggy couldn't help but smile gently and he said, "Of course I will! I'll never leave your side!" He winked at her and nuzzled her again. "I wouldn't let anything happen to my little Luna!"

Hearing him use a nickname for her made her smile, and she felt a resurgence of that warm trusting feeling that she was starting to associate with her Father. She pressed closer to his side and took a deep breath, holding it for a second before letting it go. "Alright, I'll try it, so long as you are close". From her position she could feel the dampness from his fur seeping into hers. She tensed up, waiting to follow Ziggy's lead trusting his judgement to time the waves more than her own. " Ready when you are"

Ziggy smiled and nuzzled her and said, "That's my girl!" The water level began to lower, and he looked at her, "It's now or never!" He took a few steps forward, soon the water was up to Lunaria's shoulder, and the swell began to build, "Okay, take a deep breathe! It's now or never!"
Ziggy couldn't help but get excited, his adrenaline started pumping and he couldn't help but stood by watching her next to him.
((The water isn't going to go past his face, so he's not going under, but it'll go ever her... I think))

She felt a surge of pride at Ziggy's words. "Lets go Dad!" Following his lead, when he moved she stayed close to his side stepping forward. At his suggestion she sucked in a big breath, and held it, letting the pressure puff out her cheeks. She tucked her head towards her chest and leaned towards Ziggy, pressing close against him, remembering to crouch down a bit. She braced against the shock that would come, and did as the hit. She barely managing to not gasp as the cold water surged over her head, tickling the inside of her ears. She felt the waves force lift all four of her paws off the ground, as she was completely in the grasp of the wave. With her eyes squeezed tight against the sting the only thing that kept her oriented was the warm furred body beside her. As the wave ran out to the ocean she felt herself be pulled along and had a moment of ice cold fear hitting her stomach just before her paws touched the sand again. Lifting her nose up she shook her head to clear the water and finally dared to open her eyes, looking up to see Ziggy. "I did it dad! I went under the wave, just like you said!"

Ziggy looked at his daughter with a burst of pride, "You sure did! Wait until you tell Em when you get home! I bet she'll be proud of you too!" He winked at her and watched as another wave approached, "Well, we can either stay and do it again, or we can run with this wave back to the beach for something else, but you got to decide soon...it's starting to form!" Just as he said it the wave began to slowly rise out of the water and pick up speed.

Lunaria giggled out of sheer delight "Lets go under again, I liked being in the water!" Crouching down she waited for the wave to come, watching in fascination as it formed and raced towards her. This time she kept her eyes open as long as she could, wanting to see exactly how the wave rolled in to shore.
