She looked at the jar. Then looked at the note.

"Sabriel..." she said slowly. "I think this is for you." The only thing that made it hard to believe was anyone actually buying him something, but the "what made you so bad to get this one?" part made her rethink that. It had to be his. Putting a smile in her voice, Chin lifted it up to him (Sabriel's favorite perch was now on her shoulders) and said, "You got your first present, fuzzball. Congrats!"

Sabriel tugged it up into his lap. He tapped the glass with his claws, then went on to trying to tug it open. The lid stayed firmly shut, much to his disappointment. Still...his fur felt prickly with excitement. Something told him this little jar was going to be a lotta fun when it finally opened...

When they got back to the room, he quickly went and stashed it under the couch, not wanting anyone snooping around in -his- present.

Holiday Party
Event thread!

Chinchillie
The holiday party was...wow...really cool. I'm not sure how much I have to say about it - I was only there for a little bit, but whoever hosted the party (a miss Rabid?) went all out on the decorations and stuff. I took the bloom along with us. It'll probably do her good to get out more, instead of being stuck up on a shelf all day.

Anyways, we'd just gotten there and Sabriel was being a pain and Crow was there and some guy named Liam came up to me in the middle of everything. He asked me if I'd met someone named William...there was something so serious about him, even though he was nice. William. That (oh-so-handsome) guy that I'd met on one of our morning walks...he'd never said his name, but that's definitely who it was. He showed me a picture. I'm almost certain this Liam had been in it - it looked just like him, only younger.

It HAD to be the right person. But when I asked why he wanted to know, he just smiled and said, "No reason." It was weird. Needless to say, I was more than a little creeped out and left for a while.

Later on, after Sabriel had successfully murdered the poor tree, we came back for a bit. Did he and Deimos have a fight or something? They were like the best of buds until today. We only got to talk for a little bit before the party ended. I was kind of glad. The two had that look. You know...the going-for-your-throat look. That one.

It was a great party, but it was a very weird day over all. Whew...

It was too bad she didn't like champagne. Chin had borrowed a television from the HQ for the special occasion, and it was set up right in front of her bed for comfort. She'd remedied the problem by pouring out milk for the two of them - Sabriel's in a bottle, hers in a wineglass - and perched on the bed, flipping through the New Year's celebrations. The Durem event looked crazy. Sabriel thought she was crazy, oohing and aahing at the romantic going-ons. Girls.

Now they huddled on the edge, watching the countdown.

1 minute...

30 seconds...

10 seconds...!

5, 4, 3, 2...

"HAPPY NEW YEAR'S!" Chin forgot herself and threw her arms around the baby, earning a swat, and clinked their 'glasses' together. Watching the fireworks exploding on TV for a moment, she saw bright specks of light outside their own window. Of course! The balcony!

Hurrying to put on a coat and a sweater on Sabriel, she swooped him up and ran outside, just in time to catch the fireworks from far off Barton, Durem, Gambino, and Gaians themselves glittering across the horizon. They were too far away to hear the booms and crashes, but it was a beautiful lightshow. He didn't get the point at all - he meowed and squirmed until she let him down, and was free to rest her elbows on the railing, enraptured.

The cold finally brought her to her senses, along with a rush of panic - where had Sabriel gone? But a quick peek into their room showed he'd sensibly crawled back to where it was warm and not so creepy.

He really had no sense of adventure.

New Year's was a wonderful time of year, though...

Quest delivering time again. And again looking for the right rooms to drop the notes

"That's the last time I change things without drawing a map first" Jabir was walking around the 2nd floor corridors, grumbling for the 10th time for not being able to locate the right door

It took him a while before finding Sabriel's room. "Finally!" he picked up a note from one of his many pockets and let it fly bellow the door and to the top of the bed
"One down, another one to go"

Quest
Dear Chinchillie,
You know better than anyone how destructive Sabriel's attitude is. Not only towards objects but to people as well. This behaviour will cause him serious problems in the future
In order to correct it he must create a bonding. He needs to care about something to the point of not wanting to hurt it
We're not heartless to the point of asking him to attach to a person (knowing how stubborn he is), so a toy should do fine

Best of luck
-The Mishap Staff

A quest?

After dropping a dozing Sabriel down in his crib, Chinchillie went to throw herself on the bed, deeply grateful the night was over. The responding crinkle startled her. Scooting back, she reached down and scooped up the note lying on top of the covers - what was it doing there? she wondered, flipping on the light.

She had to smile at the first sentence, but grew only more and more confused as she read on. Well, if the staff wanted it...

Better think about it tomorrow, when she was more awake. Slipping the note on her desk, Chin turned the light back off and snuggled deeper under the covers, mind still playing on the quest despite her resolution to think about it tomorrow.

By the next morning, fully refreshed, she was ready to face anything, even the 'impossible' task from Jabir and Maggie. Chin could only imagine what a visitor might think upon stepping into the playroom that morning, if they could get through the door at all; piles upon piles of toys lay scattered all over the floor behind her, with more being tossed out as she rooted deeper and deeper into the closet. Miraculously, nothing had hit Sabriel. He sat on the carpet, cradling the jar in his arms as he watched.

The toy closet hadn't been cleaned in forever. It was like taking an expedition into the jungle, a dark, dusty jungle full of cobwebs. Many of the toys were always in the room, but to get at the other things took a lot more work than she had been expecting, as she thought while dragging out yet another dusty old box and depositing it next to her. A brief pause to rest, then Chinchillie dived back in, and spied what she had been looking for in a corner.

"There you are!" she said, relieved, dragging the box out into the open. It was filled with all sorts of things. Old Furbies made up the top layer, but deeper down, the box was populated entirely by plushies. Lots and lots of plushies. But her face fell as she took a closer look inside. Oh, great...dolls and fluffy kitties and puppies. Sabriel would surely hate them all.

Sighing, she stuffed the box back in the closet. Time for a different plan.

For a holiday, the store was strangely quiet, save for a few people out and about. On the way in a mom and her two kids bustled past them in a hurry. Sabriel, hiding in his stroller as best he could, had livened up enough to growl. One of them actually growled back, much to Chin's embarassment; she apologized to the fox girl and her family while backing through the sliding glass doors, Sabriel smug as he watched them hurry off.

Now she wandered through the brightly lit store, on the lookout for the Mishap's new buddy. Chin knew he'd die for one of those robodinos, but it wouldn't be long before the thing was ricocheting down stairs and losing its batteries. If nothing else showed up, she guessed they'd have to go the dinosaur route. It wasn't something she looked forward to.

"Hi! Can I help you with anything?"

Chin jumped back. A salesperson stood next to her, beaming cheerfully. Nobody could look that happy this early in the morning, could they? "Uhm..." She wanted to say no, then rethought it, admitting this place was more confusing than the HQ itself. "Actually...that'd be nice. D'you know where the...you know, the stuffed animals and stuff are? It's for him." she felt compelled to add, pointing down at the stroller. Maybe he'd know the kind of stuff kids liked.

"Oh, sure. We've got a whole section of 'em - anything in particular you're looking for?"

She wished she knew. Fidgeting, she thought about it. "Just...cats. Big ones, like tigers." He wouldn't go for cute and fluffy, but how did claws and teeth stand up? "That'd be great."

Helpfully, he led her over to one of the shelves, an island of exotic animals amidst a sea of kittens and puppies. Chin thanked him, answering no, this was fine, thankyou, and then he went off to attend to someone else wandering in through the doors. She pulled a couple of the animals down - a panther, a snow leopard, a tiger - and, finding a clear spot, sat cross legged on the floor in front of the stroller, putting Sabriel down in front of her along with the three cats. "This is mister Panther. He likes sleeping. He lives in the jungle." she explained, taking a different approach from the 'pretty kitty' one, since that had turned out not so well.

Sabriel didn't like that one. It was cool - because any black cat was cool - but it looked way too much like that stupid dragon in their room. Ick. The snow leopard was boring, the tiger made his eyes hurt...Chin counted silently to ten, putting them back on the shelf. Almost the entire cat family had been rejected before she pulled down one that held promise. It was a white lion, simple but regal looking. She could see a glimmer of interest there, but Sabriel predictably decided he didn't want it, just to be ornery.

Forget counting to ten. Without a word, Chin rose to her feet and stomped off down the aisle, taking the lion with her. Sabriel watched her go. What on earth was going on now? It was a long time before she finally returned, all cheer and smiles. "Okay. Time to go - we still have a ton of places to visit!" Something about that voice creeped him out. Something that creeped him out more was what they passed on the way out the store. Sabriel stared.

"Cat." he said loudly. He reached over and tugged on her pantsleg. "CAT." With a bump, the stroller stopped - he leaned out as far as the straps would go, awestruck by the horrific scene. The poor lion! It had been surrounded by a pride of mister panthers. Killer panthers!

Seeing what had caught his attention, she tried not to smile, worried Sabriel would suspect something was up, and that she was involved. It was hard work. Hurried by the repeat of 'cat! cat!', she pushed the stroller over to the fight and unstrapped him from it, setting him down among the panthers. "Quick, go save him!"

Somebody coughed. "Ahem."

Chin looked up to see the salesperson from before standing over them, and gathered the lion up into safety, leaving Sabriel to take care of the panthers. "Um." She grinned sheepishly. Diversion, diversion... "Could you ring this up for us, please?" When the baby saw him taking away the lion, he growled slightly. She had to think quickly to spare the poor man. "He's...um...just taking him away to heal him, ok? He'll be right back." Sabriel grumbled but let himself be reassured, still suspicious.

They made it over there in time to get it. Chin nearly lost a hand taking the lion from its bag - Sabriel grabbed for it and hugged it to himself, glaring at the salesman. Mine! He'd resigned himself to keeping the lion. It was kind of cool...like his own evil guardian. And it wasn't creepy like Sadako.

He'd be on the lookout for panthers, too.

By the lake - quest RP.

Deimos was grinning broadlyas he looked out onto the frozen lake from aboard his ship, the Black Dawn. He coudln't sail, not yet, the lake was still frozen, but that hadn't stopped him from coming out every day onto his ship after guitar practice.

"We're devils and black sheep and really bad eggs, drink up me hearties, yo ho.. Yo Ho, Yo Ho A pirate's life for me."

The moment they arrived back home, Sabriel had wanted to go outside. Chin had no idea why, but she had obliged him, to keep up the good mood the baby was in after finding his lion. She'd showed him to most of the panther-free outdoors, and was heading for the lake, curious herself to see what it was like. She hadn't really seen it before.

As they approached it, Chin kept looking at a dark shape on the water, not sure whether it was a trick of the eyes or not. It looked a little bit like a ship...but wasn't the lake frozen?

Sabriel had left his jar back home in favor of the lion plushie. He wasn't interested in mysterious ships - he was on the lookout for panthers on the prowl. The grounds could hide hundreds of them.

Deimos shivered a bit in the cold and gaze out back to shore. It wasn't to far off, but he had drifted a bit further than he liked. Rushing to the hull of the ship he took the wheel, truning it cautiously. The ship tilted, turning. Deimos looked up at the still open sailed and smirked. Summoning up his air magic he filled the sails, sending the ship thrusting foward, cutting through the icy water.

What the...Chin couldn't believe it. The lake had to be frozen - or else it felt much colder out than it really was. And it wasn't even breezy out! She picked up the pace, now able to read the words Black Dawn dark against the hull. It was a far stretch, but the only person she knew that would have a ship was Deimos. That'd be weird, though.

There was someone at the wheel. It wasn't a freaky ghost ship after all. She waved and called, "Hey!" not entirely sure they would see.

Sabriel clung tighter to her shirt, put off-balance by the wave. Hearing a soft 'whoosh' from the sails billowing, he perked his ears. He craned his neck up until he could see the ship, and was puzzled even more at the sight. What was that?

Deimos heard a voice call out to him adn he quinted, the figures on the shore becoming clearer. Oh, it was Ms. CHin and the traitor. He growled slightly, killing off the wind as he steered the ship to shore. " 'Lo Ms. Chin!" He cried out from the hull, jumpign straight off the ship, filling his claok with air to slow his descent. He sent a piercing glare at Sabriel though.

"Hi De-" Her voice broke off. He'd jumped! But he fell in more of a glide than a fall, a drifting slow drop to the shore. Chin had to steady herself; she smiled weakly at Deimos when he landed. "Where'd you learn how to do that?" She noticed the glare but didn't comment, her worries confirmed - the two really did hate each other.

Oh. It was HIM again. Sabriel, returning the glare, was both annoyed and glad to see Deimos - he could finally prove he was so much cooler. He held up the lion, swishing his tails. "Cat." he said proudly.

"I learned. Once I grew I went to Jabir's office and he told me my alignment. I'm fire and air, so I can fly." He said simply with a shrug.

Deimos looked down disdanfully at the cat, then smirked. "I can also set things on fire." He said, not looking at Chin or Sabriel, but at the lion with a smug grin. Sabriel had taken Zir, now it was time for payback.

"Neat. Scary, but neat."

Sabriel was irritated at Deimos' attitude towards his lion, but the threat...he wouldn't! Clinging protectively to the stuffed animal, he growled at the boy, just daring him to try it.

"Sabriel..." Chin warned him. It wasn't her right to stop Deimos, but she could keep the other one in line. Sabriel growled even louder.

One of Deimos' eyebrow wings arched up, the smirk still plastered onto his face. He didn't want to hurt Sabriel, he'd get in too much trouble for that. He looked up to Chin. "You want to go on my ship? We can't sail much, but I can show you around." He offered, then turned to Sabriel. "And you can get a good look at it. You forget you agreed to part of my crew."

"Oh, sure, that's fine. Lead on!" She smiled. "Is the lake still frozen, by the way?" The ship moving was still a puzzle to her. Chin was glad someone had some self-control - Sabriel's claws were still pricking her back, clenched in response to his feelings.

He gave Deimos another glare, annoyed that he'd actually accepted to be part of his dumb crew. Then Deimos showed his true colors. Stupid jerk. Stupid Zir.

"Yah, it's forzen. The ice near shore is thin, so I can sail through it, but not to far. Wait here." He instructed, walking up to the side of the ship. Fillign his cloak with air, he rose up, leaping onto the ship.

A mintue or so later a long gangplank was lowered off the side of the ship. "THis way."

Chin stepped back to avoid the gangplank, careful not to slip on the icy grass. She tested it with a foot, secured Sabriel on her shoulders (however she'd love to see him fall in, he'd learn something from being such a pain) and followed it up to the Black Dawn.

"Wow." she said appreciatively, stepping onto the deck. Well, you couldn't deny he was a captain now...though she wondered where the ship came from, it felt she'd asked enough already. There were lots and lots of questions in line.

Sabriel looked properly contemptuous of the ship. He really was amazed, though. And jealous. But he'd never, ever let Deimos know that. Frowning, he hugged the lion closer.

"This is my girl.. The Black Dawn.. Beautiful isn't she?" He said proudly, making a sweeping movement with his hands. "Once spring comes I'll start sailing her." He said. "I've been practicing up there." He said, poitning to the helm of the ship. His eyes lingered back to the lion and he smiled wider. "Only crew members are allowed below deck, so you'll have to stay here if Sabriel wants to see. SOrry, Ms. Chin."

"Very beautiful." Chin could only agree, seeing how proud he was of the Black Dawn. "Are you going to invite anyone to watch her first...um, her maiden voyage?" That'd be neat, especially in the spring...but it was so far away.

Glancing up at Sabriel, who was sulking, she hesitated a moment before nodding. "That's all right - you two go ahead. Don't let him get into too much trouble." she added. She could be making a terrible mistake, here, but the last time hadn't gone too bad, if that was anything to go by.

Besides, they were just going to go at each other's throats someday later. Might as well.

What he wanted didn't seem to make any difference, as he was plunked down on the deck all the same. After giving Chinchillie an annoyed look, Sabriel crossed his arms and glared stubbornly at Deimos, refusing to budge from the spot.

Deimos walked to the cat and picked him up. He knew how to carry a bay, he had to carry hsi younger brother all the time. "Make even a scratch and I'll burn you.." He whispered threateningly as they walked away from Chin, starting down the stairs.

Tensing at the touch of his most hated enemies' hands, it was hard not to go into attack mode. Deimos was evil enough to do what he said. Maybe he could give the lion time to run away before it was toasted...no, he'd probably sacrifice it and save himself. It was an evil guardian, so it'd escape just fine.

Still, he growled and hissed and generally tried to make things miserable for Deimos the best he could.

Once they got below, Deimos let Sabriel down, but his hand remained close, moving until it grasped the Lion's head tightly. His eyes flared. "I made you part of my crew, and you betrayed me.. I should punish you for that." He growled, his hand noticably ehating up slowly, though no sparks or fire appeared.

Sabriel cracked his tails against the floor, looking intensely hateful of Deimos. He wasn't going to give up the lion. And Deimos was the traitor! He'd been on Jizzy's side, and tried to get the bear for her! He didn't want stupid Zir any more.

But he couldn't say that. He tugged on the lion hard, trying to pull it free; he could actually feel the heat on his paws when they got close to Deimos' hand. The fiend was trying to burn up his lion!

Deimos' eyes narrowed as Sabriel didn't let go. "You were good too. Got it away from Mother. Why.. why did you keep Zir?" He asked, the heat growing steadily, though it was yet not hot enough to burn the lion.

Okay. If he wasn't going to let go...Sabriel concentrated on the question, though he still kept a vain hope Deimos would give up the lion. "j**!" he tried. That HAD to explain it. The evil Jizzy was behind it all.

Mother? His mind tried to find a logical reason that Sabriel was crying out Mother's name. "Mother never got Zir. She stopped trying after we beat her. Zir's mine, not anyone elses." He said, hoping this would clear things up, though he wasn;t sure what the cat meant, and he didn;t elt go of the lion, though the heat decreased a bit.

The lessened heat was a relief. After they beat her? But...that didn't make any sense, since Deimos was on her orders to get it.

He just looked at Dei, very confused.

Deimos arched another eyebrow at Sabriel's confused face. "They got some other bear for thier dumb zoo. I don't give Zir away to anyone, especially not for some zoo. He;s a pirate, he doens;t go in a cage." He lessened his grip. He didn't belive Sabriel to be that good an actor to have that face of confusion.

Now that he knew Zir was a guardian, Sabriel thought they'd have a lot of trouble keeping a pirate bear in a block zoo. Deimos was probably telling the truth. It wasn't worth the indignity to actually say that, but if he ever wanted to see daylight again...

...mean Deimos.

Sabriel's ears fell back and he looked anywhere but at Dei. "Kay." he muttered, so low it was hardly hearable.

Deimos finally released his grasp on the lion, feeling triumphant again. "I don't think they'd be able to put that lion of yours in a zoo either. He looks tought." Deimos said, lookign around before going down and lifting Sabriel up again. "I'd take care of him though. Who knows when enemy pirates will attack." He said, starting back up. Keep your enemies closer, his mind recited. He hadn;t forgivne him quite yet, but, why have enemies when you could have allies...

Sabriel almost fell over when Deimos let go, but just as quickly found himself scooped up. The compliments made him feel a bit proud. Nope! His lion would probably eat all of the other animals, then run out of the zoo and beat up panthers - or pirates, whatever.

It was okay if Deimos hadn't exactly forgiven him; they were even, then.

Chin was dozing when they came back up, looking out over the dark lake with her head in her hands. The noise from the steps made her start - turning, she saw Deimos and Sabriel come up on the deck. Neither of them looked like they'd been injured. And the lion was thankfully intact.

"How'd it go?" she asked lightly.

"Good enough.." Deimos replied, handing Sabriel back to his mother. He glanced at the lion again and smirked. "Be careful with that lion, Sabriel." He said teasingly, a spark and a flickering falme appering in his hand. "I may change my mind about being so nice if you aren't..."

Sabriel scrambled up to his usual post, hooking the lion in Chin's scarf. Figuring it was safe, he leaned over and stuck out his tongue. Tradition. He then sat back, pleased.

"Hear that, up there? I'm glad to hear that, though." Chinchillie was surprised by the change, just knowing there was a story in this. She held out a hand to Deimos. "Thanks a lot for showing us the ship...and good luck with your practicing. I think we'd better head back." she said apologetically. "It's been a long day."

Deimos extinguished the flame and shook CHin's hand. "No troubles, Ms. Chin." He siad simply and smirked at Sabriel, before turning around. He had things to sort out below deck. Had to get ready for spring, when he'd truly sail somewhere far.

The air was getting cool, and the day was beginning to catch up with them both. Chin was careful down the gangplank, but when her feet touched grass, hurried back to their room. They hadn't explored all the panther hideouts on the grounds but that could wait until tomorrow.

Sabriel yawned, stealing some of the scarf for himself as the day's hero. He'd narrowly escaped panther attacks, getting hit in the head, and being burned...that was enough for one day.

Suddently he felt all his fur standing at the same time, a wave of energy going down his spine causing it. Again and again new waves followed the first, getting his fur standing even more. The fur stored so much energy, sparkles of static electricity came out of the ends
Then, instead of releasing to the outside, the energy went down every single cell of his body, forcing a change still unseen

When he opened his eyes the first thing he noticed was his fur. It wasn't that baby grey fur anymore, but a thick black pelt covering his whole body. Around him he could see his previews fur scattered around, being blown away by the breeze
His claws were different too, longer, sharper and bloodred. When he tensed his fingers he could see them retracting in a graceful and threatening maner
Swishing his tails with curiosity he realized they changed as well. He looked back at they and saw they were longer and much more deadly looking

Gullien and Thylassa

The soft quiet of the night is broken by the small squeak of a stroller wheel and the crinkle of a piece of paper as it slides under your door. It appears to be similar to a small postcard and has writing on the front and back.

Visiting Thylassa

"Hurry up, Sabriel!"

The toddler bit at his shoulder and ruffled the fur. At the irritated glare he tossed her, Chin actually stepped back, still nervous about the 'new' Sabriel, what with the claws and tails and all - okay, he could catch up if he wanted to. After checking to make sure the New Year's card was there, she knocked on Gullien and Thylassa's door. "Hello?"

She really hoped they were there - she had a 'thankyou' note ready, but it wasn't the same in person. And the two kids could visit with each other. That'd be good.

Gullien's head snapped up as someone triggered one of the jutsu's on the door, seconds before the sound of someone knocking on the door echoed through the room. Oh, thank god. It was bad enough that she was playing 'Candyland' with a baby and a griffin. It was worse that she was losing. And there was no candy involved at all. False advertising.
Cocking her head for a second, she listened. Someone outside, probably human, little restless... the pad of little feet and the telltale swishing of whips. Chin and Sabriel. Yay!
"Heads up!" She told the two, rising to her feet. "We've got visitors!" Thylassa grinned happily, latching onto one of Gullien's legs and letting the ninja drag her across the floor, belly up so her chest eye didn't get carpet fuzz in it. Polar simply wagged his stump tail before turning back to the game board.
"Chin! Sabriel! Hey, what's holy s**t. What happened to Sabriel!?"
That was not Sabriel. This was like Sabriel and a half or Sabriel on steroids or something.

Ugh. Thylassa. Sabriel backed away from the door and into Chin at the sight of the girl - forget about seeing the room! She looked like she was having the time of her life being dragged across the floor. He wrinkled his nose at her.

Chinchillie quickly stepped away from him, wary of the tails now threatening Gullien's ankles instead.

"I don't know." she said helplessly. "We got this letter on New Year's from the staff. And we did what they said on it and he grew. Um. They wanted him to bond with a toy, since he likes to rip up everything else." That didn't make much sense, did it?

Gullien simply stared back at Chin blankly. Nope, that hadn't made much sense. "You got a letter that made him grow... using a toy?" Uh-huh. Okay.
"That's... great?" Crouching down, she look Sabriel in the eye. "Well, looking good so far. I see you've developed some weapons. Always a good idea." She scratched at one ear again, standing back up. Kid looked a little like an oni of old. Give him two regular tails and he could be a baby vampire. Still cute though. "So what's up?" She asked, leaning against the doorframe.

Thylassa cooed at the upside-down sight of Chinchille. Visitors! Letting go of Gullien's leg she rolled herself over, a slightly labrious process with two wayward eyes. She was less pleased to discover their other right-side up visitor. Ick. Sabriel. BIG Sabriel, with big ugly claws and tails. Yuck.

Sabriel cringed away from the scritch, not liking what had happened the last time. Purrpurrpurr = noooo. He didn't like that Thylassa wasn't impressed by the claws. He flexed them meaningfully, glaring at her, and...

Gah. GAH. His fur ruffled. It itched. Again. He gave up on trying to scare her and dove out of sight behind Chin, set on preserving his dignity, at least from her.

"Yeah." Okay. At least she kind of got it - Chin wasn't too sure herself. Remembering why she'd come, she held up the New Year's card Gullien and Thylassa had sent, beaming happily. "We got your card. Thanks, guys!" She tried to direct that at them both. "It was a really nice surprise."

She felt a bump, blinked and looked back over her shoulder at Sabriel squirming against the carpet. It looked incredibly silly, but it probably hurt to scratch so much with claws...maybe they ought to go before he inflicted poor Lassa with fleas or whatever it was. This was kind of embarassing as it was, though she felt bad for him.

Gullien peered around Chinchille at the rolling Sabriel. "Ummm, no problem. I wanted Thylassa to celebrate some of my customs along with all of this Christmas stuff. It was sorta a self-serving gift, ya know. Is... is Sabriel okay?" Maybe this was a growing thing? Man, if so she was throwing away any bits of paper she got. At least he wasn't scooting on his butt.

Thylassa got a firm grip on Gullien's pants and pulled herself up. It was her new trick and she couldn't keep it very long, but she dying to find out what snakebutt was doing to put expressions like that on Chinchille's and Gullien's faces. All she could see was some tails behind Chinchille's legs though before she thudded back down on her rump. Booo. She pouted feeling a bit put out.

Curious as to what all the noise was about, Polar abandoned the game board where he had been attempting to cheat and padded over to the door.

"It was still really nice. Uh...yeah. Absolutely fine." She fiddled with the card, searching for a distraction. "New fur, maybe? I think we might wanna go soon. Not that I wouldn't love to stay, but, well..." Well, Gullien could see for herself. Sabriel was acting completely weird.

Satisfied by the roll, Sabriel pulled himself to his feet, and noticed the two adults were looking down at him. He stared back at them like, "what?". Didn't they have better things to do?

Spotting Polar, his fur leapt up in alarm - what was THAT? It had a beak-face, like evil birds, but it was furry!

"Yeaaaaah." Gullien replied, not even sure what she was replying too. Only now Sabriel's fur was standing up. What with the claws and the tails and rolling and all... 'yeah' pretty much summed it up. "Well... that's great! It was really nice of you to come over!" As subtley as she could she swept out one foot and rolled Polar and Thylassa away from the threshold. Just... ya'know... in case. "Feel free to stop by anytime!" Gullien gave Chin the same grin she used for Jehovah's Witnesses and Girl Scouts. The one that said 'I'm shutting this door in three seconds so please watch your feet, thankyouverymuch.'

Thylassa squicked as she was scooped into the room. Thankfully, Polar was there to land on. A tanuki tail came down, barring her from scooting forward again. Perhaps sensing a bit of Gullien's intent or Sabriel's barely restrained impulses, Polar simply sat where he was and pinned Thylassa with one massive paw to her sundress.

"Um...thanks. Okay. Yeah." That grin was a little creepy. The card was about to give way under her hands - Chin stuck it in a pocket and backed away from the door (as subtly as she could), smiling back nervously. "See you later!"

Sabriel crept closer, oblivious to the fact they were about to leave. He wanted to see the creepy bird thing...

Insane Sabriel... coming closer... about to enter room...
Still smiling brightly, Gullien gently hip-checked him back into the hall.
"Okay, thanks then! Seeyalaterbyebye!"

CLICK

Phew.

Thylassa and Polar just sat there, blinking dumbly at the door. What... what the heck was that?

"Okay! So... Candyland! Let's play more Candy-POLAR! You were NOT at the Peppermint Stick Forest! Bad griffin!"

Thylassa simply watched the door for another stunned moment. No more Chinchillie and Sabriel? She squirmed, vaguely disappointed. And she had an itch right in the middle of... her...
Argh!

After that first trip to the store, she hadn't given any other thought to the pack of medical supplies bought for those 'just in case' incidents, and was glad now that it was there. As told by the shaking of her hands that handled the case, threatening to send it all spilling to the floor, Chin was terrified. What could be wrong? Sabriel had been fine yesterday. This morning she woke up to a toddler whimpering - he never did that - with whole patches of fur scratched out overnight. Approached with a thermometer, she was almost glad to see he had some energy left, since he bit her when she tried to open his mouth.

"102 degrees." she read, feeling hopeless. So he had a fever too. Sabriel was definitely sick. Was there a nurse here? She tried to remember. There had been...an infirmary...hadn't there? There had to be. Breathing deep, Chin took a minute to collect herself. Um...try to get all the details, in case they ask, the scratching thing, fever...that was all, right?

Sitting down beside Sabriel, who had been moved to the couch, with his lion, she tried to speak as calmly and quietly as possible. "I'm going to just check you over, you'll be okay, it's alri-ow!" He'd slapped her hand away with a tail before it got close to his fur. "I won't touch!" He glared suspiciously at her. Fine. Examining closer, Chin whistled softly under her breath. No wonder. His claws had left the skin torn up all over. It was impossible to tell anything, except that wasn't very good at all.

They had to get down there as soon as possible. Double checking to make sure everything was in place, she took a blanket and the medical supplies and tried to coax him into being carried. He stiffened, resisting, and wauled softly, and kept up a monologue of protests no matter how she shifted him, so the resulting plan was to get him down there fast as possible and in any fashion, comfortable or not. He was wrapped up in the blanket as well - she wasn't sure what he'd do, confused and sick. She didn't want to tangle with his whips on the way. Nevermind it wouldn't help the fever at all. Her brain wasn't working quite right at the moment.

Chin didn't bother locking the door when they left. This was an emergency!

Attack of the chickiepox! In progress

Gullien pounded down the hall, wet hair flapping her eyes and underneath her hitake. She'd simply thrown on the clothes Polar had brought her, wrapped Thylassa in a diaper and a blanket and flung her into the stroller. She had no idea what was happening the little newt girl, but it was very clearly not good. Blisters on the skin were a very very bad thing. Radiation bad. "Which way now, Mona?"

The little nim fluttered for a moment, orientating herself. Gullien didn't know her way around the HQ but Mona had passed a lazy afternoon exploring and memorizing where everything was. It had paid off in a way she hadn't expected. "Down this hall. Hurry up!"

"I'm going!"

Contrary to her guardian and her baby moniter's moods, Thylassa was quite cheerful as the stroller sped down the hallway. The cool breeze against her wet face felt really good... she'd been hot all day. Her back didn't itch now and she was going very very fast. And she didn't have to wear clothes. She cheered as Gullien took a sharp curve, the stoller almost overturning before it recovered and sped on.

"Here, right here! That's the door!"

Without waiting for Gullien, Mona sped up hovered in front of the infirmary door. Whacking at it with one tiny fist she cried out, hoping someone was inside. "Hey! Hey, is anybody in here?"

Wha? What's the matter?

Maggie opened te door at the suddent wacking. It must have been something serious for people to rush like this

Moments later, Chinchillie skidded around the corner, carrying Sabriel trussed up in a blanket in her arms. That was part of the reason she was panting so hard; the toddler wasn't light. And she wasn't exactly athletic. It turned out to be a very close call between them all and the ground - she wasn't expecting to see Gullien there at all, and had to put on the brakes before everyone went crashing down.

That wasn't important. She could have cried with relief, reading the sign on the door. The infirmary! But why was Gulli here, too?

"What's going on?" she asked, confused, turning to Gullien. "We...we need to get in there. Sabriel's really sick." If there was any hint to show just how off-kilter she was over this, it was that she didn't even think of why they were there - Chin adored Lassa, and the very idea she might be sick as well...

The door opened as she spoke.

Gullien turned to face... Chinchille? Who looked as wide-eyed and panicked as Gullien felt. s**t, s**t, s**t.
"Something's wrong with Lassa too." The kids had just been together too... when Chin and Sabriel visited... s**t. "Do you think they've caught the same thing?" God and Kami and Buddha, let it not be an epidemic of some kind... Gullien opened her mouth to say more, but was interrupted by the opening of the door.

"It's about time!"

Maggie looked extremely troubled at both Mishaps and guardians. Whatever it was it didn't seemed to be good

"Come in, take a seat and explain me what happened" she hurried them inside

Lassa...was sick too? They must have both reached the same conclusion at the same time, Chin turning slightly pale as she remembered their visit. Of course. Trouble naturally followed Sabriel wherever he went - of course he'd get one of the other babies horribly sick from even the most peaceful of visits. Of course.

"Well...Sabriel was kinda sick already and we went to visit Gulli and Lassa...I didn't know he was sick, or else we wouldn't have gone!" This was already her fault, getting the two together and everything. Sabriel gave a stuttering little growl, almost agreeing. "That was yesterday..."

Gullien's soft growl echoed with Sabriel's. Chinchilie KNEW that Sabriel was sick and brought him over to see Lassa? That was... that was not the issue at the minute. But it would be later. Right now, Lassa could be suffering from any sort of weird sickness. Who knew what a Mishap could catch!?

"Lassa's been sick since Sabriel came over. She's was fussing and had a fever but I didn't realize anything was wrong until I saw that she had blisters on her back." Gullien made an abortive move to lift Lassa and show Maggie her back. The newt girl cringed back, trying to avoid Gullien's hands. Crap.

"Can't you examine them or something? That's what the infirmary is for, right?"

"Hm contagious, blisters,... I need to make a closer examination"

She checked Lass's skin first. It was covered in the said small, red blisters. Under her touch it felt imediatly hot. The body was reacting to the infection

If possible, she turned even paler at Gullien's growl, and knew she'd be hearing about this later. It was impossible to even try to excuse herself with the results so very clear. Chin watched anxiously as Maggie examined 'Lassa, feeling completely horrible.

Sabriel roused a little upon hearing the conversation. He'd gotten Thylassa sick? Glee!

Thylassa squirmed unhappily, attempting to get away from Maggie's hands. Without the breeze from running, she was starting to get hot again and her back itched terribly. She felt too ill to cry and simply settled for whimpering softly as the stranger prodded her.

Gullien simply watched Maggie examine the little newt, petting Lassa's hair. Okay... it couldn't be anything too awful, Lassa's hair wasn't coming out and she didn't seem to be bleeding or anything. Just really sick. But then, what the hell were the blisters. Not knowing what else to do, she simply stood there and kept a wary eye on everyone else in the room.

"Hmm lets see you now Sabriel"

She tried to check the cat's skin too but was careful enough to avoid getting within reach of his claws. As for his tails all she could do was keeping an eye open for movement

Sabriel warned her off with a pained hiss, flinching away. Chin carefully shifted him so Maggie wasn't in any danger of being hit, catching his claws, which were extended, in the blanket. "Oh, hush, will you? It's not like you're gonna die." He bristled indignantly and turned a glare on her instead. How would she know? It HURT!

But the jab distracted him - hopefully long enough for Maggie's checkup.

Maggie used the short distraction to raise Sabriel's fur and check the skin. Again she foud blisters and a hot temperature

"I think it's Chicken Pox. Their bodies are reacting well"

Sabriel's head whipped around. He wasn't fast enough to catch Maggie, much to his frustration. For once, instead of settling down, he glared - staying tense, staying angry, and warbling abuse under his breath. Between being sick and this, he'd had it.

CHICKEN POX? Chin felt like crawling into a hole and dying, as much with how embarassingly obvious it was as to how painfully Gullien was going to kill her. Would it hurt babies? Sabe was a toddler - that was better - but...she'd personally had it when she was five or something, and got it bad then. Thylassa was just a baby!

"Are they going to be okay?" she asked, raising her voice above the toddler's griping.

Gullien swished her tail as she soothed Lassa. Chicken pox... chicken pox? What the hell was that? Some kind of a bird thing? Some kind of magical disease? She was going to kill Chin. "What is chicken pox?" she asked, voice overlapping with Chinchille's. "Is it dangerous? Is it contagious?" Good thing they didn't get out much, there was no way Lassa could have infected anyone else.
Well... except for her, Mona and Polar. Shoot, she'd better go by the library.

Lassa grabbed at Gullien's hand. Scriiiiiitches. She was itchy and hot and wanted to go home, not be stuck in a little room with Sabriel.

Maggie went to the cupboard and started preparing a small potion, crushing some herbs and adding some other ingredients

"It's a disease very common in young children. Quite contagious but they only get it once. It often takes a week for the body to heal itself, but some cases can take a whole month or more, depending of the immunitary system. But that's very rare to occur"

She splited the sugary concotion into 2 seperate glasses and headed back to her patients

"But this should heal them in no time. A tea spoon now, after each meal and right before sleep and they'll be alright by tomorrow morning. And a soup spoon for each of you and any other who were in contact with them after dinner to prevent further spreading"
