Kimi sighed and closed the door behind her. She stepped carefully over to Tess's side and pulled her up by her shoulders glancing at the alcohol and shaking her head. "Isn’t it a little early for drinking Tess?" She asked and knelt, picking up the broken shards in her flat palm. Once she had them all she dropped them in the waste can and moved to sit next to the window, her usual spot.
She cracked the window and pulled out a cigarette, putting it to her lips she lit it and felt the joint in the back of her throat and head that made her feel okay. She exhales out the window and closed her eyes. "How much did he say tonight's going to cost us?" Her voice was flat and unenthusiastic, but not condescending.

"First of all, that glass is from a few nights ago. Secondly, it's never too early to drink. Lastly, I hate when you smoke in here. It makes the room smell like crap for days." I walked over to my bed, which laid adjacent to the window Kimi sat at, letting go of the previous comment. "A couple hundred since we made him reschedule the lineup. We still have a problem though. Since Trace left, we need another guitarist. I can't do half the s**t he could with that thing."

“But does it include drinks? Because last time you drank half of what he was going to give us, and the rest went to Trace’s wardrobe.” Kimi took another drag on her smoke and sighed, leaning back in her chair. She thought about how they were going to keep this up when every time they got paid they had to shell out as much if nor more than they had received. Next her mind moved on to think about the guitarist problem. “I can much up most of the cords he was doing, it won’t be as cool, but I think I can get by. She nodded, And I can sing his part, it’s not Like I didn’t teach it to him.” Kim shrugged and blew smoke out the window.

I smiled partially at the girl with the cigarette, it's smoke bouncing in eddies around her head. A greeting was obviously necessary coming from my part, but the edge in her voice made it impossible for me to conjure up an appropriate one. Hey? Yo, what's up? Konichiwa? No, none of those would do. I nodded a thank you toward my new roommate and began unpacking the contents of my first bag, which contained my African and Swedish wardrobes. I unfolded a leopard-print shawl and examined it a moment, checking for stains or any kind of damage. It was more fragile than the others, though the material was much thicker for cold nights spent looking up at an Egyptian sky. I glanced out the window to see that the sky was overcasted gray, as expected.

"It better include drinks,"I shouted. "Otherwise, I'll have to hold back." My mind rewound itself to scavenger for the lengthened phone call the owner, Jason and I had a few days previous. All that came up was the issue of my excessive drinking at the past gig, him being insanely pissed off because of the lineup change...and me promising not to be rowdy. Nothing about if the drinks were or weren't included. Damn. "True," I replied to that last part of what Kimi mentioned. "I'll guess that'll had to do until we find a replacement." I slipped out my cell and typed up a quick message to Demetri.
"Where'd you run off to? We're having a mini meeting"
With last night's conversation still fresh in my mind, I wasn't sure what to think about the friendship we shared anymore. What would it even be considered? Friends didn't sleep in the same bed, as we had been. But that was mainly due to my insecurities and not wanting to be left alone at any moment of the day. I didn't see myself as wanting the attention, it was just that when people weren't around there was nothing to protect me from myself... . My thoughts faded off into a silence that consumed any negative thoughts were awaiting to enter its space.

"If that's Demy, tell him that I got his mother a birthday gift, he needs to add his name to the card." Kimi Rolled her eyes and finished her cigarette before crushing it into the windowsill and tossing it out. She was feeling a lot more loose now and a smile graced her lips. She looked at The new roommate and gave her a once over.
"Where are you from princess?" She asked, her voice held no judgment that was all kept inside her head. Outside she was nothing if not supportive. She crossed her legs and leaned back her chair until it touched the wall. "Someplace far away by the looks of it." She stood to look over the girl's wardrobe, picking up what looked like a fluffy skirt in light blue. "Very unique, Where'd you get it?" She asked

"That's from Paris," I replied meekly, glancing toward the skirt only long enough to see the remarkable shade of perywinkle laced with white ribbon. "And I don't have one specific home...until...uh...now...I gue_" I was cut off with a fit of coughs from the smoke. I felt like such a child, unable to withstand a little inhalation of anything besides pure oxygen. The coughing wouldn't go away, so I got up and scooted away until the stinging in my throat subsided.

"Paris, wow, this baby must have seen allot." She set the skirt back down gently and looked over at the girl. "Do you have a cough or something?" She asked putting her hand into her pocket and pulling out a small wrapped cough drop. She held it out for the young girl. "Have you drunk enough water? The air's a little dry here, or so I've been told, I grew up in this town so..." She shrugged. After years of living here, she no longer held any accent, and no one had any Idea that she was even different than any other girl her age.Kimi loved Tess and looked out for her very well, but if Tess was to have someone living with her than she needed to keep that person on her side as well.

I had to say, it didn't come to a surprise to see Kimi already caring for the new girl. The majority of the memories I held of Kimi were of her acting in a way much like this one; never was she uncaring towards me. "I'll go get her a glass of water." I didn't want to seem overbearing, but I didn't want the poor girl to die after just arriving. I took my set of keys, stuffing them into my pocket and strolled out the door. The halls were bare for the most part with the large portion of the students out on day trips for the weekend. However, that didn't stop the custodians from keeping the air conditioner on, creating a cool chill which sent shivers across my arms and legs. As I approached the end of the hall and down the first small set of stairs I stopped to peer out the enormous window. The view was that of the court yard, my favorite spot, but only when no one else was there. The flowers that were scattered about the area in rectangular pots were almost ready to bloom. A smile showed itself on my face, while I leaned against the sill, almost forgetting about why I had left the dorm room.

Gab rolled off of the couch. Kimi's couch to be exact, his blue hair was messy and flattened, and his makeup was smudged. He opened his eyes and gowned. "Kiimmmiii???" He looked around the dorm and found no sigh of the girl. Gab dropped the sheet that had been covering him in sleep, revealing that he was wearing a pair of Lady’s blue workout pants and little else. He trudged into the hall and down to the bathroom. With practiced speed her washed and did his hair and makeup, he reinstalled his piercings, the hanging metal making him feel more unique. Once he was satisfied with his appearance he walked back to Kimi's dorm and got dressed. A nice tight dress shirt, that he had painstakingly embroidered with pinstripes in a black thread, tight black slacks, a black tie, a spiked collar, and bracelets. He opened the door to the small fridge and found… healthy food… What did he expect? Kimi was a healthy eater and he craved fried and sweet. That meant he would have to go raid Tess’s fridge. With a very important motive he moved of to Tess’s Dorm.
‘Knock Knock Knock!’ He banged on the door then let himself in. “Morning Tess.” He said not even looking to see if the girl was in, he just walked past who ever was in the room going straight for the mini fridge and opening it to stick his mooching head inside. Gabriel was glade to find… A donut!!! “Sweet…” He said taking it and then eating half in one big male bite.

I pulled myself away from the window and continued down five flights of stairs before finding a vending machine that had bottled water. I prayed it was cold as I slipped in three dollars, $1.50 each; one for me and the other for the new girl. Did I even catch her name?....Don't think so. The vender released the two near frozen bottles of water. I stuffed one into my bag and the other I darted back up the stairs and to my room to find the door wide open. "Ugh! Don't leave the door open. You'll let the cold air in!" I shut the door securely behind myself and handed one bottle to the girl, whether she wanted it or not, and walked into the kitchen to dispose of my empty bottle. "Hi Gabe," I patted his shoulder while walking past him, tossing the bottle into the bin. "Score! Woo!" I spun around once, then leaned back against the wall.

I kept my eyes on the bag in front of me, wishing I had packed a mirror to see in back of myself. "Thank you," I mumbled greatfully, taking a swig of Poland Springs. I smiled at the girl she called Kimi and took another gulp. Should I say something to the boy with the blue hair? He seemed edgy, but at the same time very harmless, with that I was certain. Actually, come to think of it, he looked an awful lot like Vick, a man I worked with in the circus with my parents. Vick had been a bit more brawny in the arms, though, from all his trapeez work. I decided I might as well change, I probably looked like an idiot in my gettup. I gestured to the bathroom with a pair of gray Sofie shorts and a yellow tank-top with the words "La Circisa Fantastica" across the chest and walked in. It smelt like pine needles and shampoo that was too strong to have ever belonged to a female. I walked out in the new clothes and sat by my bag, again staring into it.

My phone buzzed, sending two pillows to my ears. It continued to buzz, alerting me that I had not read the text message yet...constantly. "No, Tess." I moaned into my mattress. It continued to vibrate. "Noooo Tess." It was furious now. I snapped it open and read over her message. I slid my fingers over the keypad. "Sorry I didn't reply sooner. Must sleeeeeep. Be there in 10. Peace." I threw the phone at the wall on the other side of the room to avoid the frustrated reply that was coming.

I slipped out my vibrating phone and clicked the "view" button to reveal the new message. My eyes ran over the message once before replying back just as quick as I had read it.
"10 mins = 5 hours? Don't think so. Sleep l8er Get your a** over here. Btw, Kimi got the present & needs you to sign the card."
It disgusted myself when I used the slang for messaging but it was a lot simpler than typing in complete sentences.
