"He lets it."
More walking, more talking.

Opec wrinkled his nose. He'd known a lot of mean people, although he hadn't known it at the time. Daddy taught him what was mean!

Oh, yes. Angry and bitter, and far too used to getting her way. Rusty walked back and forth with the babe, speaking quietly. Hoss squirmed to get down after a bit.
"Not until you promithe to be nithe to Opec."
"Won't torment."
Rusty sighed. "All right." He sat him down gently. Hoss was a stocky little monster, and it was hard to carry him for long. He was always tired. Hoss knew this, and thus liked being picked up even less than before. He grumbled and toddled back over. He would try, you stupid idiot. Because he cared for you, in his own backwards way.
"Why you do that." The eggs.

"This?" Shiloh asked, looking down at the eggs, "You know, I'm not sure. It's just one of those things everyone does. Sometimes we hide them and have kids look for them. They're pretty, at least."

"Well, you eat 'em later," Shiloh shrugged. He personally wouldn't. He didn't like hardboiled eggs. Maybe Rusty did!

"Hrm. The Easter bunny brings candy. The whole of Gaia hunts for eggs and turns them in for exclusive clothing and such," Shiloh explained. Hrm. "Well, it all came about because Jesus was killed, and he rose from the dead on what we now call Easter. Bunnies and eggs are fertility and life, so I assume that's where it came from."

Not quite! A bit off-putting, but certainly not mean!
"Rusty n' I both went to a lot of church as kids. I mean, that's how we learned. I'd offer you the bible, but I dunno if you can read English yet. I think you'd like it. Slaves and death and stuff all the time. At one point God turns a man into a pillar of salt because he said to not look at him. But someone did. God was badass back then."

How strange! Opec already knew basic reading. Perhaps their alphabets were close? He knew that at least the letter sounds were.
Maybe it was a cat thing.
