I'd also assume that gun shops and what have you would have already been raided at the begining of the zombie onslaught. So ammo would be harder to come by for those types-o-weapons.
Doesn't everyone own one?

Good point. It is recomended that you study up on whatever weapon you choose, no matter what it is. You need to practice with it and become atune with how it is used. The thing needs to be an extension of your own body. A well trained person with a rock is much better off than a noob with the best of weapons.

Attire: Light yet tight. The less pockets and straps and what not you have means the less things zombies snatching claws have to grab onto.

Same for hair. The shorter, the better. Long hair is a liability. Just another thing that can be taken hold of.

My brother and I often spend too much time planning for the most unlikely occurrences that could happen. One such thing being a zombie invasion. My bro is the bow and arrow half of our team, which is why I know about crossbows.
Me? I'm the thinker and heavy artillery half. The "tank" so to speak. 3nodding

Don't keep more than 1 or 2 people with you, any more will slow you down but if you are alone then no one is there to watch your back while you sleep.

Yup. There is safety in numbers, but the more people in your 'party', the more provisions you will need. Smaller groups are better.

My brother and I talk about what we'd do too. Sadly, we've already agreed that we would have to leave our parents behind. They're too old and would get us killed with their oldness. That's just something we don't need following us around.

I would, only if they can't be useful. I'm not totally heartless though, as I'd leave them some defense turrets to use. The dagger/sword half of my brother and I, would be me.
I'm surprisingly graceful with weapons of that caliber. 3nodding
When encountering fellow survivors, best to make a plan that will allow both parties to survive, and switch up members based on immediate need or skill. The more survivors overall, the better.

There's no room for sympathy in the world of zombies. It's kill or be killed. If you can't be useful, then you're just a liability. As cruel as it may seem, it's the truth. -nod nod-
That kind of thinking is what gets you killed. Same with thinking that someone that was bitten won't turn. It doesn't matter how close you were to them in life, once infected, they'll no longer be human. You have to get rid of them lest you jepordize not only your own life, but anyone else's that may be with you.
I'm not saying that you need to shoot your friend the second they get hurt. But, if they're showing symptoms; i.e. running a fever, complaining of joint stiffness, dimentia, and other numerous things. Once they 'perspire' you have to dispose of the body. Reanimation happens within hours of 'death'.

And I figure I can use a bow. I took an archery class and am a fairly decent shot.
