That's a very-well developed character as well. A Dr. Jekyll / Mr. Hyde character could easily be designed from your post. I really like the twist where his 'good' side, is also a killer, but at least that side has some respect for life and/or living.

Thanks. I sorta like this skeleton, and have found myself using it more often now. It's actually easier, since the one I showed in the first post of a character, it's skeleton was used on a different site I rped on. Yeah, I came from a site different than Gaia, five to six years ago, and at the time this was the only skeleton I could read, so it stuck with me. But now I'm using this one, and even made another character with it. Eh, it's pretty funny actually. You hit the nail directly. This character is in fact a Dr. Jekyll/ Mr. Hyde case. But for him it 'Younger' side / 'Older' side. The 'younger' side, is the childish, playful side, who loves everyone, but goes insane when bored(like most children....), and the 'older' is the mission loving side who is always insane and only fights when paid. This is another character that has sorta the same personality as me, so I can more easily interact with this one, and use him easier. Not gonna get much into that case right there.....but anyways, thanks for the review. Oh! Just remembered, if you think you are going to be overwhelmed with questions from other people, I can help you out whenever. I kinda don't want to be an official instructor/teacher. I'd rather be the substitute teacher....

Well, I'm not an official instructor either. But I definitely welcome any help you may want to provide.

Think of me as more of a Boothsby (From Star Trek)
PostPosted: Mon May 25, 2009 12:49 am

Pardon the double post, but it's been several days since I posted here.

For those of you who don't know who the heck Boothsby is, he was the groundskeeper at Starfleet Academy. He didn't have any degrees, and he wasn't a teacher or anything, but he WAS a bit of a confidant. According to the story-lines, if it weren't for him some of the greatest captains would have been mere nobodies.

You could try just looking at roleplays in this subforum and offering advise on profiles.

I'm not too crazy about telling people how to improve their characters. That's why I created this thread. Because, it gives people who actually want the help an outlet. It might be a good idea if thread runners might want to send their characters here first; before approving the characters in their RPs.

Well, you can review any of my profiles, but there are parts I left out and have stored as a document on my computer. However, the profiles should not appear to be missing anything, just to be a light history, even if important things might be missing.

Thank you Metalic, but I'm trying to get people to post stuff here so I can review it. I can't say peers anymore, because no-one seems to be checking this thread except me. I'd rather help someone make a better character, then put it in a profile. Not make a profile and have me butt in and change their whole being.

Gaia username: Metalic_Noodles
Name of character: Alisha Damian
Age: 12
Student or Teacher: Student
Powers: strong ability to learn, and having knowledge she was seemingly just granted, not learned
Weakness (as many as you want) Inexperience
What your wearing right now: Always has long sleeves and bottoms. Currently is wearing a simple, long, light violet spring dress with a white floral pattern. For sleeves she has a light pink jacket on. On her feet are single-strap sandals with socks.
Appearance: [x]
Background: Only four years in public school before she was withdrawn to be homeschooled by her mother. The school had appreciated her and she was a top student. At the end of third grade there had been a science fair she had signed up for, but her project was not completed and the school's hopes for her to take the school to the nationals on her first year were dashed. She was withdrawn at the end of the year and even though the school offered to allow her to enter as a homeschool student years following she did not.
Her father worked all day and didn't pay much attention to the homeschooling lessons. Alisha stayed above the curve of most children her age which kept him proud. When her mother received the invitation to the school she was skeptical. She had never heard of the school, it was a boarding school far away, and her child had not won anything big nor had public school records. After research and talks with the faculty she finally decided to sent her child there. While she wouldn't be there to keep Alisha in line she was confidant that she had taught the child well.

Hi! I'm - Metalic_Noodles
But you should call me - Fai
I'm pretty sure that I'm - 15
And That I'm a - female
My animal transformation is - domestic dog
My visible animal trait(s) - In human form she loses most, if on all of her sensory enhancements. However her human ears are shaped strangely, folded, furry, the same color as her hair which allowed them to blend in. Her finder and toe nails are often jagged and sometimes she barks.
This is a bit about me - When she was born she was more of a human-animal mix in appearance. Her ears were higher on her head and more dog -like in their fold and form. Her teeth were already in, although small, and four were pointed and taller than the others. Her hair was short and messy, and not only was on her head but extended to her shoulder blades. Her hands and feet were built more like a dog's and she had a short tail. As she aged the two forms began to split. At seven she was able to switch between forms, even though the dog form still had human traits and the human form still looked canine.
Fairly early in her life, shortly after she began transforming, her parents sold her to a rich lord who promised a home and care for her. Fai's parents had already been having her do more than a fair share of house-hold chores, and did not allow her from the house unless necessary. The lord had her powers trained, and once her canine form closely resembled a dog she was allowed outside of the grounds on errands.
I like - Sweets, praise, running in dog form
I dislike - dresses, especially short ones; human form; frivolous things, shoes
My preferred weapon(s) is - none, is not allowed
You could describe me as - passive, quiet
When I look in a mud puddle, I see - I couldn't find an image that was even close. Short, uneven yellow-orange hair; just under shoulder length and about the color of the dog. She has a metal pinch collar on as both a human and a dog, but that has grown dull in color. There is a black box on it that can be used as a shock collar or a locater. She will usually wear a short-skirted frilly dress, tights, and sandals. Her clothes are ill fitting and holes and tears are not uncommon.
Rawr! I'm an animal! -

I like your student's characteristics. It's not always good to just retain facts. Experience is invaluable to the development of a young mind. This boarding school certainly sounds mysterious, and intriguing. Perhaps she'll find the experience she needs to develop further there.

-------------------------

A pinch collar would likely pierce the skin on a human form, you may want to change that to a choker collar instead. The character seems like a cross between the Fruits Basket's storyline, and Cinderella. Personally, I'd like to also be certain that Fai can't get shocked (or at least not so heavy a shock) when in human form.

Also, this character seems a bit too vulnerable for you as a player to enjoy. She needs some strengths to offset her weaknesses. Like, perhaps her domestic dog form can be an excellent guard dog, or something like that.

You said she hates dresses, especially short ones; yet that's what she wears. And she doesn't like frivolous things yet her dresses are often frilly. I'm assuming from this that her guardians are either control-freaks, perverts, or they genuinely think she's content with what she has. My impression is that they're probably control-freaks, and need to get impaled on a roasting spit for that. wink

As always these are merely suggestions, and need not be taken as law. I will say this... Fai tugs at heartstrings, and that can be just as endearing as a well-rounded character.

It isn't just retain facts, it is the unnecessary but trained habit to study a LOT before using the information. Alisha's history is really... Let's just say developed, even though it is only moderately so, so the themes in that should be logical and realistic. I'll PM it to you if you aren't intending to follow the RP, or if you are following the RP and don't care about knowing.

----------

I was thinking the collar was big so that it fit the dog's neck, and the human neck is smaller. I've never used one myself but in my dog club meets quite a few of the less brave parents got them for the kids who are smaller than their dogs, or close. From what I've seen they are intended to be worn loosely on the dog, and the two ends of the pinch-collar meet with a small chain that works like a choke collar. So without fur it might rub, but without a leach attached and pulled tight it wouldn't be more than a heavy irritation. The skin at first might have gotten raw and bled, but after a few years the irritation wouldn't be easily noticed and the skin would no longer bleed if the collar rubbed against it, right?

I was trying to make a believable slave. It actually surprised me how similar these characters are, so different from my usual models. I don't really think about strengths and weaknesses in a pros and con list, I just try for a character that fits the role without godmodding. The master having her trained as a guard seems odd, since that would make her more difficult to control. Maybe as she gets older and it is no longer an issue but I'm not sure if it would work with the personality. I doubt it counts, but as a ymera in a mostly human world I guess that counts as a strength, especially how un-animal her human form looks. Then again, the draw back I have in place for that is a lack of dog-traits in human form such as the hearing and smells bonuses. She does seem to transform with more ease that the others in the thread though, but not by much.

With the dresses, IRL I hate them, I also hate shopping, which might be related. I figured that a cause for the character's dislike of dresses could be explained as them being the main type of clothing she is given. I've been trying to pull away from unexplained hating of dresses and pink in my characters, which seems to be resulting in girly characters. sweatdrop I'm not great with moderation.

I think my idea behind Fai is that so far in the RP all the ymera were free and did not seem to intend for the RPC to be put into slavery soon into the RP. I wasn't interested in just being a master looking to buy, especially without any played ymeras ready to be sold. I thought it might be interesting and new to do a different perspective and while it give me time to try and write the parts without interaction really well it will be a challenge to give her contact with others. I would suspect that from their other RP actions will try to free her, which will prove very entertaining if I mold her thoughts of the world and opinions properly. I didn't even think of Fai as being a heart-tugger, probably my lack of this type of character.

My RPC in Village of Screams is more like my usual RPCs, even if it is very, very similar to a character in the base anime of the RP.

So she IS knowledgeable but still feels she needs to study? That could be interesting.

--------

I've never been fond of any form of slavery (in fact I quite despise it), so it could tug at the heartstrings of myself and any others who agree with me. But if that's the type of RP it is; then I guess she would be a nearly perfect character for it. I hope in her storyline she finds a way out of her situation. IF she does, that would be when she'd need more strengths to work with.

PS: I'm gonna start asking people to include a quick summery of what type of RP they're gonna play their character in. It'll help me make more concise comments.

Alisha is for a boarding school for mutants RP.

Fai is in an RP where there are two human races, humans and Ymera. Ymera, what Fai is, are humans that have animal traits and can transform into that animal. So naturally the humans labeled the mutation as freak and decided to capture, enslave and demean them. Basically make them more animal with human traits so that they can be suppressed and prevented from becoming the dominate species, and in doing so give them a reason to want to become the dominate species.

@Metallic: Well, then they ARE quite good characters.

Well, any other takers? I would encourage some feedback on my ogre character too. (just trying to keep this thread towards the top of the classrooms)

I'm more of a writer-type of RPer as opposed to a dice or D&D RPer, but the attacks list just seems, big. Not god-mod-ish necessarily, just like a long list that would be bothersome to remember. Then again, it is a list of all attacks, not just a power that has many attacks not listed in the profile, that are based off of ideas the RPC gets and things the RPC learns.
