L'thor smiled, gratified by Veyes' obvious joy at the sight. So different from the defensive, frightened young man of four sevendays ago. "They are lovely, aren't they? Every clutch is different, I don't think I've ever seen two eggs look exactly the same. The only ones you can tell are queen eggs, because they're far larger than the rest and, well, gold but even they aren't alike to one another. The rest of the eggs are the matter of hundreds of wagers coming up to the hatching. Size is some indicator; a huge egg probably isn't a green and a tiny one probably isn't a bronze but that's all you can really get from appearances. As to telling if it's your dragon," L'thor smiled and rubbed at his side distractedly, "that much is nice and easy. The hatchling will speak to you to tell you its name, and that is is very hungry. Then you lead it to the edge of the sands and you'll be given meat to feed it with."

"I'm sure I must have said something more intelligent than that," Raith put in to L'thor. "Not like me to be so very plain with you, now is it?"

L'thor grinned. "No, you said 'Hello Mine, I am Raith and I think you should get me the nicest meat, because I'm the prettiest'. Vain thing you."

"Ah, just like you!"

"Yes. Just like me." L'thor gave a snort of amusement and shifted slightly against the wall. "My dragon is being unkind again," he said with a grin and a shake of his head.

"Ooh...so I don't see a gold one in there. How do you know what sort of dragon will pick you? I mean is there anything that determine it? Or is it just personality??" He ran his fingers through his wavy hair that had fallen out of it's braid, "So Raith....was she is a tiny egg?? Not that any of the eggs are really that small to me...but smaller than the rest??"

He laughes and bumps his head against the crack still looking at the eggs, "Soo...after first few seconds of hatching you become....Mom. Great... So do they figure out eating themselves or do I have find a bottle??" He giggles under his breath his imagination making L'thor feed a baby Raith from a bottle. "Ah...so meat right away. That shouldn't be too hard...Wait at that size do I have to go hunting down the herdbeast or what?"

"I bet Raith was a cute baby." he smirked glad that she couldn't hear his words as he spoke.

L'thor nodded to that. "Yes, it's personality; how well you and the dragon fit together. As you've seen with myself and Raith it's not a matter of being the same, though we are similar in some ways, it's creating a compliment that helps you both. Raith for example is calm and relaxed; she'd probably not trouble to speak her mind if not for me, and if not for her I'd speak mine too much... err... well, I speak my mind too much anyway I'm told, but I'd be worse."

What would be be like now if he hadn't Impressed? What would he be doing? Probably still traveling around as a Trader, trying not to let anyone find out his true nature. "Thank goodness for you Raith." She responded with a feeling rather than words, but that was more than enough. L'thor gave a contented sigh and lent his head back against the wall.

"The meat gets brought to you," he went on after a few moments, "but you have to butcher it yourself after teh first day and night. Always a few that vomit during that series of lessons. Eventually your dragon will get big enough to tear meat up for itself, and when its bigger still it'll do all the work and catch its meals up out of the beast pens. Oh," he laughed, "she was a very cute baby, came out of a fairly small egg; bets for her I seem to recall were split fairly evely between green and blue. She was gangly, awkward, ungainly but I still thought she was the loveliest thing ever, as you will when you find your dragon." He did hope Veyes managed to Impress. Not right away necessarily, but one day. He couldn't imagine how the boy would take having his wonderful dreams crushed. Not very well, probably.

Veyes nodded after rubbing his forehead from the previous knock on the wall. "I guess I don't really know what I need yet. It will weird when a hatchling makes that choice. But I suppose there's a bunch of things that I could use help with. Although I try to take care of myself when I can." Boy this was going to be difficult because he had no idea what might "compliement" him.

"Well that task ain't any problem for a farm boy like me. I know how to butcher a herd beast and gut it. You don't get to be squeamish long on a farm. Threw up years ago when my father had me gut one and I got over it really quick afterwards. Rather be gutting beast than dealing with him." Well at least there was one class he'd probably excel in out right. Heck, he could probably teach a trick or two about the process but he probably wasn't going to be the one to let on about that unless he was asked. Better not to stand out too much in the masses or people might start noticing you too much; he wasn't quite ready to be popular or the outcast. Kids and other teens could be quite cruel.

Veyes grinned and stood up away from the crack finally. He could have looked through that hole all day long but he had to think that L'thor was probably eager to get back to his weyr and relax before getting called back to duty or drills. Thinking about a tiny Raith was just funny in itself. His imagination spurred on images of flapping wings along a skinny body with a pudgy tummy - not pretty...that's for sure but certainly cute.

His cheeks tried to hold back the laughter that was inevitably building up within. "I bet she has a far different description of her appearance." He started giggling at that point unable to contain his imaginary view of Raith's babyness. "So now what should we do? I could stand here all day watching these eggs but I am sure you have things you have to do as well."

L'thor rolled his eyes. "I imagine she rather does, not that she remembers anything more than three days ago, but that's never stopped her before. As for something to do..." he smiled and shrugged. "Well, I can show you around more if you like. I'll have nothing at all to do for at least a sevenday and I hate being bored... I could show you to the dining hall, the lake, could go for a fly with Raith... Err... Maybe something that doesn't involve too much walking," he smiled sheepishly, "I must confess to being a little tired. I've been very lazy last four sevendays."

Veyes looked thoughtful, "Well how about dinner. That will give you time to sit down then...maybe flying?" Flying definitely had his attention as he pulled away from the wall. "And...you said you had someone you thought I should meet...right? Although, maybe we could just well....umm...if you're tired, maybe flying and other things can wait till another day? I don't want to impose if you're exhausted. Heck you haven't been to your own room yet."

He almost didn't like the idea of being separated from the one person he knew in the whole Weyr but soon enough that would happen so he might as well prepare for it now. Surely, he'd get to know some other people here in time.

L'thor nodded; food sounded good. Yes he'd eaten quite recently, but he was still hungry. "Right, we'll go and eat, and I'll send Dusk and River hunting for Conomor. Once we've eaten we can take a brief flight, I'll introduce you to Conomor and he can show you some of the other sights. Sound alright?" ...Egh. The weyr was going to be a mess, and he hated sleeping with a mess around him. Well, he'd just have to decide if he was more annoyed by the state of his abode or more tired he supposed.
