Cloudy_Past I dissagree completely, percussion takes the most air! ever played a train whistle? and have you ever straped something tht weighs 30-40 pounds to your chest and marched? (other than a tuba player)

I'd have to say... Oboe. You can't use your whole air supply or else your pitch would start to bend. (Our oboe player has some iron lungs... especially since she has to hold one note in Finale I believe for 8 measures.)

Either oboe or French horn. I took two and a half years of oboe and you needed a lot of air. It is really a hard instrument to play. French horn is really hard to blow into. My friend, Hope, used to play it but quit because it was so tiring.

THIS IS A TOUGHY!! as a trumpet player i find it oober hard 2 keep a steady air flow wen it coms 2 the real low notes so i wuld prob hav 2 say the tuba..... that culd also mayb b the reason y i nevr hear them!! sad but our flutes also hav such i hard time keepin a steady airflow 2 stay in tune. n id rather hear an out of tune tuba section than an out of tune flute section!! xp

I think the flute. Because of the way the instrument is designed, only half the air you blow actually is used. But maybe I'm biased because I'm a flute player. xp

I'd say piccolo. it's an evil nasty thing to try playing higher notes.

Yuki Shiro Hitsuji UnscathedLight Definitely the York Tuba. Big Tuba = lots of twist and turns in its long tube, needing lots of air to produce a decent sound! ^^ although the flute does require a steady flow of air, i don't think it requires more air... Agree? Disagree?.... ninja I agree. ( ^_^ ) ditto. I play euphonium mainly but every now and then I pick up a tuba and it's not fun filling up that horn. My g/f enjoys forcing me to play learn how to play her flute and I can hold a note for a pretty good while.

♥ As the years go by, I race the clock with you, but if you died right now you know that I'd die to. The bass clarinet and all brass instruments because for the bass clarinet, since it's so large, you need to have a high lung capacity to get even a measure out and even then it doesn't always come out right. As for the brass instruments, you need a lot of air for a few notes. My friends who play trumpet and tuba need to takes deep breaths for every couple of notes because if you don't, it comes out either to high or to low pitched. So, bass clarinet and brass instruments. You remind me of the time when I knew who I was, but still the second hand will catch us like it always does. ♥

The cellos x3 We always hypervenallate when there's a duet with the basses, and a deep breath when they screw up. (no offense to bass players out there, ours stink!)

actually i'd have to say flute because without proper air support your top register is screwed, however piccolo is worse. for such a small instrument, it requires soooooo much air to get a good support sound and after awhile adjusting to be in tune it hurts your jaw...
