... ... Wait, so people were actually trying to boycott LFD2? Because it's similar to one of the best multiplayer games EVER that Valve also made? Really? Really now? Those people suck.

Yeah, started shortly after they announced it. The august issue of Game Informer has a breakdown thing, with random numbers and stuff about games, and it said something like:
Number of people supporting the L4D2 boycott as of press time= 34991
Game Informer Employees who believe an internet protest is a good idea, ever=0

It's as simple as this.
L4D2 is going to be different than L4D. So much so that adding it as FREE content to the original wouldn't be worth the design time or production costs they put into it. (It would have been utter crap if they had planned on giving it out for free.)
ALSO, this way the original stays the same in case this new one sucks.

Makes sense. People are just being stupid again, as usual, because they think being an incessant gamer excuses them from using their brains and the education their parents shelled out for for 12 to 16 or 17 years.

...I'm pretty sure those aren't the ones who have 12-17 years of education.
Meh, I think it's less to do with stupidity, and more to do with people who just like to search out things to complain about. Some people thrive on negativity, and if they can't find something to b***h about, they'll create something.
To some extent, though, I can understand peoples' concerns on how soon they're releasing version 2. My initial thought was how many people it would pull away from the first game to play the second, but I rationalized that for a little while and realized if the second was good I'd be one of those people moving on to it, and if it wasn't I would probably stay playing the first along with plenty of others. I also was worried on game upkeep, but Valve has always been good with that (I think) so that worry didn't last either.
Anyway, after a lot of thought I decided I'd much prefer a new game...because I generally hate dlc, and find it's usually not worth it's price. If it was free dlc...I dunno, doesn't sound like it'd really provide the kicks that the game deserves, and it's not fair to the programmers. I've seen the trailer for the game too, and I find it pretty exciting. I'm also excited to play as a conman....although I'd have totally preferred a middle-aged soccer mom, or a freaky pissed off grandmother, but ah well. All the new weapons and new infected types are also sounding uber fun.
I can understand people being slightly worried or upset upon initially hearing the news...but the boycott is still down right silly.

People will complain no matter what happens.
If it were a game changing patch? They'd complain about how much it ISNT like the original. (Star Wars Galaxies, The Matrix Online, TF2 Class Updates, City of Heroes) If it were just new maps? They'd complain that there's nothing new. (Previous L4D updates.) If it's a seperate game? They'll complain it's not free. (L4D2)
There's no winning with fanboys. It's like trying to tell a Nintendo fan that Zelda wasn't all that great.

The funny thing is its really not that hard to find things to b***h about I personally find plenty to b***h about in other people that I don't have to search for any random thing to b***h about which means these people that are bitching about L4D2 are the people I b***h about for a lot of different things. The human race leaves me with no end of things to b***h about. I should seriously look into starting a cult...
