I'm going to bump this up once more, just in case. I've got mine drawn, now I just have to ink and paint it. And somehow get to the studio to scan it. :/ Today's going to be rather full....

Ooh, Rocket, I like it! Although I've always wondered where the European notion of dragons came from when the original Asian myth had like antlers and whiskers and stuff... I'm totally not posting mine until further notice though. Maybe... A week from now? XD I was just too busy to get the sketch done...

Ryu Redwings Ooh, Rocket, I like it! Although I've always wondered where the European notion of dragons came from when the original Asian myth had like antlers and whiskers and stuff... I'm totally not posting mine until further notice though. Maybe... A week from now? XD I was just too busy to get the sketch done... The generally held speculation is that fossil Archeopteryx & long-necked marine creatures were, & still are, plentiful in parts of China, whereas the European continent had more well-preserved four-legged herbivores with frills, which sometimes broke apart during the fossilization process & gave the appearance of wings.
Basically, the dragon is an amalgam of ancestral memories of being chased by predators, along with early humans digging up bones that weren't from any known living animal. They proclaimed "dragons!", & speculation, superstition, & stories carried that first physical evidence toward what we now know today as folk tales of dragons. 3nodding

Ah, that does make sense.... But I've never heard of making up dragons being remnants of being chased by predators in the past. That would actually explain a lot of myths, even the basilisk since first instinct when confronted with something frightening/life-threatening is to freeze.
