"Sprocket-things." Ghlyssa removed her hand from over her pocket; encouraged, they flew out and zipped around her head. She made a slightly rueful face. "I don't know what they are. Sunny and Bronnie gave them to me. They remind me of Biome. The green one is Bud, and the red one is Blossom." She hunched her shoulders. "They follow me," she said resignedly.

Riven groaned. "Oh... you, too?" He grinned, though, and held out one hand towards the sprockets. "Biome gets energy off of those things. They have four of them... and my mom has one. They're... um, they're interesting."
He hesitated, then. "Did you happen to see anything, um, unusual about them a few days ago? Besides dipping around and being excited. They always do that, if they're anything like Biome's sprockets."

Ghlyssa blinks. "Um. No, I didn't. But I only got them a few days ago, anyway." She peers closer at them, and pokes at Bud. "Biome gets energy from things like this?"
Blossom spins around Riven's hand excitedly.

"Yeah. They're... um... elemental containers." Riven wrinkled his nose at the odd words. "Or something. Biome uses their sprockets once every day... we have a spirit sprocket that they use mostly, and life and entropy sprockets that they charge off a bit each day as a pair... and a combat sprocket. That one's new. It's kind of hard to understand, but I'm not sure I need to. It works. That's the important thing." He shrugged, deciding not to mention the odd things - no point in worrying Ghlyssa further about the sprockets - and poked at Blossom with one finger.

Blossom whirred off, then around Riven's head.
"Elemental containers. That's what Sunny meant." Ghlyssa blinked. "She said that Blossom was Life, and Bud was Plant. Well. I don't suppose that matters. We don't have anything like Biome. And I don't need the energy for anything else."
She added, "Bronnie likes these things a lot. They're sort pets for her, I think."

"Hmm... I wonder if I could draw energy off of them?" He tried reaching out for Blossom, in the same way that he reached to link to the Spirit Realm, but found nothing he could hold on to. "Not this one... can you, though? Aren't they like your elements, sort of?" He tilted his head curiously at the sprockets.

"I... I hadn't tried." Ghlyssa closed her eyes a moment, feeling for some connection. After a moment or two, she shook her head and blinked. "I can... I can feel it. And I guess it's a lot like the Earthkeeper's life force, especially Bud. But I can't touch it. It's... mechanical. It's different." She held out her hand, but the sprocket whizzed off obstinately.

Riven reached out towards the sprocket too, but couldn't feel anything from it at all. Still, he marked it down mentally as something to experiment with later on. He definitely could feel both Biome and the spirit sprocket, after all.
"What was it like?" he asked, abruptly. "Meeting the Earthkeeper? Meeting yourself, I guess...?" He sounded a little bit confused underneath the curiosity.

"Well, I'd met her before." Ghlyssa stared at her hands. "It's sort of strange. She's very nice, but she didn't... actually want me to take the path of the ancient. She wanted me to prove myself first. She takes everything very seriously." She paused, thinking. "But now... it's even stranger, because I talk to her, but I know what she's going to say before she says it, and I think she knows what I'm going to say. But we talk out loud anyway. I can sort of... feel her, or hear her, in the back of my mind." She touched her temple, and looked helplessly at Riven. "I'm not sure I'm explaining it right. It's like... like a tree, that splits up into two branches, like a Y. And one's me, and one's the Earthkeeper, but we're just the same."

"I... sort of understand? But I sort of don't, too." Riven wrinkled his nose. "But I love you anyway," he added, blushing darker purple briefly. "Maybe someday I should... uh, meet her? Since she's you, but you're also you... um..."
Riven ran out of words, and settled for a shrug.

"Well, I'm still me. I think she'd like to meet you, though. She knows who you are." Ghlyssa thought. "She always calls you the Spiritkeeper, even if she does know your name. And I guess you are that, but... you're just Riven, to me."

"... I wonder how she knows that?" Riven's face took on a thoughtful expression. "I don't think I ever knew any Earthkeeper... then again, being in the Spirit Realm all the time, I didn't know very many at all. Only those that decided to come visit. I think more people... beings... and stuff knew about me than I knew about them."
It was sort of disconcerting. If people knew you, it only made sense that you know them back... then again, that weird disappearing guy had known Sosiqui and she hadn't known him, so it apparently wasn't a Fa'e-only problem.
