M bd gets pretty biased... like, in the trumpet section, he put students way out of order... All the girls are at the end of the section, when I know the at least one of those three should be two or three chairs higher, and another should be a few as well.
Our section- the horns- is a little iffy. Like, the 2nd and 3rd chair (3 students) are pretty close, but she can get some of the scales and has trouble with actual getting the notes out a lot, while he's the opposite- his tone and such is a lot better, but he can't remember scales. They have him as last. And when we get the sophomore and freshman included in the ring, I know that our 3rd chair is better than the sophomore (I love her, but she has a lot of trouble with the horn) but they still put both of them higher than him. It's because he talks a lot I think.
I feel understand why, but one of my friends, a clarinet, was put last chair. She has trouble playing alone in front of people, both bds know this, but they look for excuses to put her further down. She's a decent player- could probably be two or three seats higher, but even if she places there they will choose only her out of the eight or so clarinets to do a solo in class, and when she can barely get notes out they push her down. In class, with everyone else, she plays fine, just can't by herself. I kind of understand why, but he still needs to stop picking her out of all those every time.
idk, overall I guess chairs aren't too bad, but they are a little biased.

My clarinet is over 50 years old....so it's already a bit iffy to play. My band director lends my a good mouthpiece for it every year, But at the time of auditions, he still hadn't given it to me. I told him when I walked into the audition room, but he said just do it without the good one. With my broken one, I couldn't hit a note above mid-staff C. So I got last (8th) chair. And then after I finished...he gave me the damn mouthpiece and I couldn't redo the piece. gonk

I guess I'm fairly seated. I'm second chair out of two alto saxes, but the first can play her low notes better then me and I can play the higher notes better. When I challenged her, the song was msotly low notes so of course she had the advantage. But we get along great, so I don't really mind.

In my orchestra, we go by 1st chair, 2nd chair, 3rd chair, ect. My friend Diana & I (we play cello) are not seated fairly. She was 1st chair and i was 2nd chair. Our teacher put 2 people that were 3rd & 4th chair ahead of us. It's not that they play better, they can't play better. Angelica can't even play A flat! SHe was like, "Hey, Elahaundra, where is G flat?" I was like, "It's F sharp(on the d string(Cello))." She was all nuh-huh. Then Diana was telling her yeah-huh(diana is the cello fingering expert in the cello scetion). Tsk Tsk Tsk...

our seating is COMPLETELY unfair. I am a sophmore and I play 1,000,000,000 times better than seniors plus i play more than one instrument better than the seniors on the instrument. This year our director decided to "change things up a bit" and put the the damn freshman on 1st parts!!! I made all-state, I know the full range of my instrument and I take band seriously!!! The freshman can barely play 5 scales and they cant play past an A (the one on the first ledger line above the staff). WTH IS WRONG WITH HIM!?!?!?

at my school we are fairly seated and my band directors (for the most part) dont show favoritism. but when my sister was in high school it was the complete opposite. she definitely had one of the best tones i have ever heard come out of the trumpet and she only had 1st chair for a few weeks!!!!!! can you say favoritism! also the stereotype trumpet is a boy, not a girl. another thing working against girl trumpets.

Marching Band no Jutsu Nope, I'm fairly seated. First trombone out of one. Ever asked to challenge yourself? If I had ever been the only one in my section, I would've asked my band director if I could challenge myself. xd

we dont have chair numbers, but we sit according to our part. i was moved once because we were rearranged because people cant keep their mouths shut. then, i was moved cause we got a new player who had issues with the person sitting on the other side of me. then that person left, leaving me last chair third part, where i should have been at top of the second part

ihappyy niutiu we don't have 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc chairs, here. we just sit wherever within our section, which i believe is pretty fair. what do u do with the different parts in music? That's what I trumpets usually do, the rest of our sections are set but our trumpets just mix and match parts based on who can play it. We even have our oboe player go back to trumpet for hard songs. lol.

In my section I sit sixth chair out of twelve. This marching season, I'll be third and playing first part. Two of our best players graduated, and the rest are either quiting or swithching the guard. In the end, this year is going to be rookies, and two prodigies that rose to the top of the section their rookie year. I'll be the only one in the middle skill wise. It's gona suck. crying

For the most part our seats are pretty fair. I was second chair tuba out of two, and I knew more than the guy sitting next to me because he was always asking me about fingerings. xD But he is a better player so it's fair.
