Tenkyuu will be fine, she assures Setsushi. Amid the rhythmic sound of the scissors evening out Setsushi's locks, Tenkyuu assures Setsushi that she has dealt with worse situations. While the conditions are not always the best and the customers are not always the politest, it is good, honest work.
Tenkyuu might even one day work her way up to manager. She would orchestrate a coup to take the position, but is afraid that she has yet to adequately build her own faction in the restaurant.
Tenkyuu watches Setsushi, her own heart aching faintly as she watches him; to that, however, she keeps her silence.

... Tenkyuu isn't being serious, he hopes? sweatdrop
Setsushi rubs his chin thoughtfully as she works. ... Perhaps he could give Kouyo his job. The café is not usually too busy, Madame June is usually quite calm and reasonable, and the customers are not overly polite. Although he enjoys the atmosphere very much, Setsushi has been thinking that he ought to change to some work that is more... utilitory of his strengths and skills...
... How is his hair coming along? Tenkyuu's tea will eventually get cold, she knows.

Tenkyuu hopes that Setsushi isn't going to become a mercenary or some-such chides the elder with mock seriousness. When one sells their talents, they must also sell their heart.
Tenkyuu pauses and steps back, seeming to survey her job. She frowns faintly before placing a hand on Setsushi's shoulder and leaning forward.
"Setsushi wanted his hair very short, yes?" asks Tenkyuu with a hint of apprehension in her voice.

If a mercenary only serves those who are worthy, Setsushi fails to see the difference between him and any other respectable salaried soldier. ... But there don't seem to be any large armies in Gaia, anyway; he was thinking perhaps of investigating the requirements for serving in the local policing-force.
... ... ... And Setsushi is terribly worried about what Tenkyuu may mean by 'very short,' and fearfully reaches backwards to feel the length of his hair. gonk

And Setsushi would feel enough hair behind his head to relieve him of any worries. Tenkyuu moves a hand to faintly pat the top of her head.
Tenkyuu was teasing. No, she couldn't live another day if she was to maim Setsushi's beautiful hair. Tenkyuu muses, eying the texture and color as she taps the edge of the scissors against her head.
"... Huuummmm," ponders Tenkyuu silently.
Tenkyuu pauses and shakes her head. No, no, she must truly stop teasing poor Setsushi. Her fingers reach around the male, brushing against his arm and moving to grip her cup of tea. She pulls the cup to her lips and takes a sip as she admires her handy-work.
... Tenkyuu has talent at this, she decides with a nod.

Setsushi breathes a sigh of relief, turning in his seat so he can give Tenkyuu a dirty look -- along with a projection of gentle playfulness.
If scissor-work weren't such a strain on the hands, Setsushi would tell Tenkyuu to get a job at a hair-cutting house; there are many all over Barton Town. But...
... Well, anyway, Setsushi gets up to sweep up the detritus on the floor. As he does so, he shakes his now-shorter hair out; his head actually feels lighter... Maybe his poor feeble brain won't be under so much stress now. sweatdrop

Tenkyuu leans forward, her forearms ungracefully settling on her knees. Around Setsushi, she seems to let down a barrier that is hard to shed even around her children. The Heavenly Bow muses for a few moments before shaking her head softly and sipping at her cup of tea yet again.
Setsushi appears to be going back to his usual mood. Tenkyuu hopes that his countenance does not put a stress on him. While Setsushi is naturally kind, Tenkyuu worries that the constant display of love can become an anchor around her pupil's neck. A slow smile curls around Tenkyuu's lips as she closes her eyes.
If Setsushi ever needs to relieve any tension, then Tenkyuu isn't too far away. Suddenly Tenkyuu leans her head back, letting out a faint moan.
"Oohhh," murmurs Tenkyuu, "Ooohhhh SeeettsuuuuusshhhiiiIIiiIiiIii!"
As she finishes, one of her eyes peek open as she chortles mentally upon seeing what trauma she has caused to the fair maiden.

... ... ... Setsushi's facial expression indicates that he will be having nightmares about this for the following seven years.
He tries to repress the trauma, however, and cleans up the hair clippings. He briefly considers saving a lock as a memento, or destroying all of it in order to prevent the Mist Sorcerer from capturing it and using it to put curses on him... but eventually decides this is too much trouble, and moves to dispose of it normally.
Finally settling down to drink his own tea, he ponders silently to himself. Then, after a moment, he asks Tenkyuu if she thinks it might be a good idea for Setsushi to challenge Unsou to a course of duels?

Then Tenkyuu can die knowing she completed her part in life.
Tenkyuu sips at her tea and notes that she will like to keep a lock of Setsushi's hair if he ever does cut it to be married. While she attempts to typically to avoid such sentimentality, Tenkyuu will indulge in it for Setsushi.
Her eyes fondly trace over his form before she hides a faint sigh into her tea cup. After a few moments, she mulls over the idea before smiling faintly.
Tenkyuu does not know. If Setsushi wins, Unsou will pursue him until he loses. If Setsushi loses, she will mock his delicate masculinity. It seems like a lose-lose situation.
Tenkyuu pauses, a finger tapping at her bottom lip as she reflects on Setsushi's earlier aggression.
... Of course, it could act as an outlet for Setsushi. He has not participated in anything war-like as of late, and he was just thinking of entering law enforcement.

Setsushi is afraid what Tenkyuu would do with that lock of hair, though -- hex him, so that he fails to deliver any children to his wife?? Or something more... umm... nevermind. redface
Tossing that trail of though aside, Setsushi denies that his ego is so fragile that he will not be able to bear being mocked by Unsou. He would not mind losing to her at all -- indeed, he feels it is she he must challenge because she is the most formidable of all four of the current Knights in a duel; she will do everything to avoid losing, and Setsushi will have to be at his very best to even manage a graceful loss.
... And he wonders if maybe she is taking the transition to Gaia the hardest of all of them. Tenkyuu is strong, Tenryuu is adaptable, Chourou has her family with her... But to Setsushi, it seems Unsou lives for battle and war, and there are no such things in this land.
He takes a sip of his motor oil.

Is Setsushi suggesting something about Tenkyuu's noble character...? tenkyuu suspiciously raises an eyebrow as she leans back, eying her former pupil. She lets the conversation drop as well as Setsushi's mind twists to the topic of Unsou.
In silence, Tenkyuu contemplates Unsou's dilemma before she nods her head faintly. It would be difficult for her, yes, but it is possibly best for her.
"Is it really healthy to be so fascinated by war?" asks Tenkyuu as she shakes her head. Setsushi has felt his heart beat faster in combat, felt fear tickle his stomach as an attack slipped past him that could cleave him into two. Battle can have its own perverse pleasure, but...
"It is something to be indulged in sparingly," says Tenkyuu finally as she finishes off her tea.
... Tenkyuu doesn't know how Setsushi is not dead. Has he thought of brewing that poison for assassination purposes?

Setsushi is reasonably confident that there is compassion and nobility somewhere in Unsou's soul... but... her focus is indeed somewhat disturbing to Setsushi as well. But it would be unreasonable to expect her to immediately adapt to a peaceful way of life, even if the peaceful way is the more psychologically healthy.
By providing her with an opponent, Setsushi can give her a bit of the violence and competition of her old way of life onto which to hold, while the rest of her life follows the quiet Gaian way.
... ... ... But Setsushi is primarily interested in these duels for his own improvement; helping Unsou would only be a secondary benefit.
If he does go ahead with this plan, should they expand the duel-of-bows to a full-out archery contest? Would Tenkyuu like the opportunity to compete against these impetuous young whippersnappers? he teases her gently.

Tenkyuu sighs faintly, waving a hand dismissively at Setsushi. Tenkyuu is afraid that the contest would be as one-sided as battling Setsushi with swords.
A smile slides along the elder's lips, however, and she watches Setsushi for a moment. Setsushi should show his true expertise with the bow when he battles, Unsou, however. A defeat will not be tolerated after all of those years of guidance and effort that they both undertook.
Tenkyuu sighs faintly before closing her eyes.
"Setsushi, enjoy the days that remain while you can," says Tenkyuu, a rain cloud seeming to hover over her head, "Those wonderful days we spent together have passed so quickly. Now you are a man and I am a withered widow."
Tenkyuu swears that she only blinked and the change took place.

Setsushi will certainly do his best, but he is not sure he should hope for more than a draw. Unsou is said, after all, to take pleasure in nothing but defeating others... sweatdrop
... And he swats her on the arm very gently. How dare she say such depressing things?? Neither of them are so old; they don't need to be already gazing on, ever so melancholy, towards death.
Tenkyuu still has many years and many things to do... Grandchildren to raise, life stories to recount, interests to cultivate...

And Tenkyuu looks forward to that many times, truly. But at other times, she aches. She feels him calling for her, she feels the emptiness where he once was.
Tenkyuu pauses, her wrinkled face knitting in concentration as she seems to ponder telling Setsushi something. After a few moments, however, she shakes her head.
... Sometimes she can handle it or it floats to the back of her mind. Somedays, however, it is so prominent. She can almost feel his warmth, hear his comforting words, smell his delicious meals...
Tenkyuu's hand settles gingerly over her heart as she closes her eyes, taking in a slow breath as to recreate the mask of composure that she wears for the public.
