Despite finally knowing the location of her opponent, she wobbled dangerously forward as the naginata hit nothing but mist. Suddenly, her vision filled with pink as she found herself thrown back. Weight settled over her and she looked up into the blazing pink eyes of her opponent. For a moment time stopped and she was certain this would be the spot her opponent could do her in, but the pain of claws digging into her shoulders jerked her back to reality. Sliding the pole between their bodies, Nagi grunted as she heaved the bigger creature off to her left. Twisting up on a knee, she continued the motion of the pole to bring the blade down on her opponent.

The Nagi’s weapon slid against the crow’s chest and pried the two apart; Sand grappled for grip, strategy altogether thrown from her mind. She glimpsed the blade of the naginata rose above her, yet somehow managed to roll away before it pierced her breastplate. A long gash ran from her collar bone to her shoulder, a steady flow of blood pouring forth. Upon realization of her opponent’s success Sand flew into a frenzy, claws churning through the air in desperate effort. Thick clouds quickly filled every empty space, even with the Nagi so close Sand did not feel certain her claws would meet flesh.

As the length of the naginata slid across her opponent's body, Nagi felt a rush of satisfaction as her opponent disappeared into the mist. Out from under her opponent, she rose tentatively to her feet, not wanting to be caught on the bottom end of redoubled tackle. Just as she got to her feet, swipes of pink flashed out of the mist, missing her face by far too little. Scrambling back, she twisted the naginata in front of her and lunged quickly in the direction of the claws.

Another miss and still the fog had yet to part. Sand crouched, readying her body for a sudden assault; the Nagi’s blade peeked through the layer of mist, parting it like butter. Sand reached up a hand as the blade dove in her direction, swiftly countering the attempt with another swipe of her claws.

Frustration returned as her blade slipped through the fog unhindered. How was this insanity even possible? Was her opponent truely quick enough to disappear so soon after attacking, or was it some magical quality of the mysterious mist? A flash of pink interrupted her thoughts, and she couldn't move fast enough to escape a claw raking across her chest. Nails clinked over the tops of her breastplates, leaving interrupted lines of white hot pain. Sucking in a short breath, she pushed the pain down and grit her teeth. Twisting her grip on the pole, she turned her body away and drove the tip into the mist in front of her in a sideways thrust. A shorter thrust, but hitting her opponent at all seemed to be random while engulfed in the mist.

A thrust of the naginata explored the area Sand was located; the blade didn’t come too close, but gave the crow another chance to pounce upon the poe again. She almost took it, leg muscles tightened and ready, then at the last moment decided to spray hot sand towards the Nagi instead. She hoped that this would increase her luck.

Searing pain plastered her side and Nagi cried out, almost dropping the naginata. Stumbling back and shaking, she tried to brush at whatever had come out of the mist, or her opponent. Stopping her backward stumble, she forced herself to stand strong and forward. Pain crawled over her left side and she trembled minutely. Moving her injured arm hurt terribly, but she grit through the pain and leveled the naginata. Tears pricked her eyes. That hurt. Really bad. Resisting a cry of pain at the burned skin stretching, she shot out three shallow, frustrated lunges in the direction of her opponent.

The sand hit! The crow could not help but relish the knowledge that she had succeeded even when she did not think she could. She clutched her head, the older personality struggling for control. She struggled to stay one step ahead of the moving blade, dodging from left to right with care. Once she deemed the Nagi close enough she pounced once more, ready to take her down.

The lunges all hit nothing but air and Nagi cringed in pain the apparently unnecessary movements caused. Sucking in a breath, she stepped back. She had struck out in the mist, if her opponent had seen her blade, then her location would be easy-

The view of pink as it hurtled towards her was driven from her mind as the skin over the burn stretched, sending shoots of pain through her. She whimpered and more out of instinct than any sense of strategy, she again wedged the pole between them and lifted her opponent off. It wasn't as quick as before, only one hand to do the lifting, but her opponent was off and as soon as it was, Nagi shifted the pole onto a lance like grip under her one arm and sent out in front of her in a weak thrust.

Sand was thrown from the poe with enough force to confuse her sense of direction. It was a few moments before she again saw a flash of red in her peripheral vision. Her body seemed newly energized and in her right hand appeared a thin blade, more a sliver than anything. First Sand peered down at her hands in confusion, yet decided to use this opportunity before it could b yanked away. Another flash of red and the crow struck out, fist clutching the sliver of weapon like a dagger.

The weak lunge hit nothing and the blade wavered uselessly, all sense of form gone. The pain had dulled to a continuous throb along her side, but Nagi bit her lip to concentrate through it. The physical fog around them was enough to deal with, she didn't need the mental fog of poor focus dragging her down too. Movement in her left hand came haltingly, pain shooting through her cracking skin. Trickles of blood oozed from the jagged lines between the scabbed skin. She bit her lip harder and concentrated. She saw a flash of silver and pink through the mist, or perhaps it was the wishful imaginings of an unfocused mind, but it was something to go on. Forcing herself to settle into offensive stance, she ignored the lightning running along her skin and stepped out and in, executing a perfect forward lunge.

The assault failed and Sand spun away from the poe without inflicting damage. The sliver held tightly in her hand we leapt forward again, the need to carve growing more incessant. From within the mist the blade rushed at her again, yet with tricky footwork she was able to sidestep the strike. Sand reached her new blade out again, hoping to pierce her target.

The thrust hit nothing but mist and Nagi stumbled forward. Her opponent had again managed to slip away. Letting her left hand loosen, the frustration of battling in the endless mist coupled with the incessant pain along her left side dragged down her mind. Loosing all but the most basic form, she returned to what had seemed to work best, running the blade along the ground. After a few moments, she was beginning to lose hope that she was even on the same side of the room. But suddenly a pressure on the tip of her blade, and anxiety to get the battle truly moving sent her into a frustrated, wild swipe.

Her sliver met no resistance as it slid through the air; she pulled her hand back to her chest, clutching the weapon to her heart. The Nagi had been there only seconds before, she was sure of it, yet now she heard nothing, saw nothing. She pawed slowly across the dungeon floor, staying as alert as possible, and scanned the thickening clouds for a hint of red. A flicker… Had it been her imagination? The flash came and went so quickly Sand could not distinguish it from a trick of light. She sank down to her haunches and leaped again, weapon extending, although she knew not where she might land.

The swipe wobbled wildly and she nearly dropped it in frustration. She was irritated, she was tired... Effectively cutting off her thoughts, she saw a blade slipping through the mist, followed by a pink mass. Too lost in her thoughts to dodge early enough, she instinctively pushed her left side behind her, that side already injured. But it wasn't quick enough and the blade hurtled by the length of her chest and left a deep gash along the inside of her left arm. Her cry strangled through clenched teeth and the jerkingly continued the motion left, keeping her eyes on the dazzle on pink passing by her chest before it could disappear again into the mist. Even as the blade slipped out of her skin and the pink creature continued in its momentum by, Nagi flipped the grip her uninjured right arm had on the pole and spun it up to rest the blade just above her shoulder. Already losing her opponent to the mist, she swung down, hard.
