"I was never taught how," Ishi admitted as she started in the direction Galleai had indicated. "Though I can't imagine it's that difficult to learn." She shrugged. "I've never really wanted to learn. Water's very...different in the dark." She shrugged again. The pictures of water she saw in books and on television were starkly different from the deep, black reality that was water at night. It reflected beautifully, but somehow she had never really wanted to go near it to swim.

"Me neither." Gal agreed. "It looks deeper when it's dark outside." She'd been leading them towards where she thought the pier was, but instead of bright lights and calliope music the area was getting seedier and darker and distinctively more dangerous looking.

Ishizuke, never the pinnacle of bravery no matter what she wanted to think about it, was getting decidedly uneasy. They weren't in a good part of town to begin with, and the farther they went, the more worrisome the setting became. Ishizuke frowned and ran a hand through her hair. "Um...Galleai," she said after a little bit, "are you sure we're going the right way? This doesn't seem...quite right."

Gal looked around with a little frown. "Youre right. The fair was by the water.. and I can smell the water here.. but it must be the wrong pier." She shifted on her barefeet. The pavement was kinda slimy here, too. "But still, if we follow the water we should find it, right?"

"Yeah....I guess..." Ishizuke said doubtfully, a bit worried that she was going to end up getting completely lost from Juno's house. In truth, she didn't really wander that extensively during the night, and she was still trying to figure out exactly where Juno lived in relation to all her usual haunts. But she wasn't going to look the coward in front of someone else. Setting her jaw, she ran a hand through her hair and nodded. "So we follow the water."

Galleai was more or less fearless. Not so much out of bravery but out of ignorance, perhaps. Either way, she led them along the waterfront until things got even darker. The shop fronts turned to bars with broken windows and shouting and brawling could be heard from within. The smell of rotten food and alcohol and other much less pleasant things hit the air. Galleai stepped into something thick and wet and was glad it was too dark to see what it had been.
"I think, maybe, we should turn around." She said with a small frown. "This doesn't look right at all." It was as if she were talking about the weather.

"Yeah....I agree," Ishizuke answered, the quaver in her voice discernable in spite of her best efforts. She was rarely afraid of being out alone at night, but this was just...tempting fate. Shaking her head and clenching her fists to keep them from trembling, she reached out and took Galleai's hand instinctively. "...D'you know how to get back to the park from here?" she asked quietly. "I'm not familiar with this part of town."

Shaking her head, Galleai frowned. "I dont remember which way we came from, exactly. But we could ask somebody..." She squeezed Ishi's hand and made her way to the dark smokey entrance of some loud bar. Two men were standing outside of it smoking and talking gruffly. "Excuse me?" Galleai said, but the men didn't pay her any attention.
"Excuse me" She said again, tugging on one of their coats until he looked down, suprised. "We've gotten lost."
"Oh 'ave ye now?" The man eyed Gal and Ishi with a predatory grin. "An' what'll ye be givin me if I show ye the way back?"

"s**t," Ishizuke said under her breath, as soon as the words had left Galleai's lips. The man's expression made her accutely uncomfortable, but...it also reminded her of Juno. And that just made her mad. She wasn't going to take this sort of thing from anyone. Biting back the urge to spit in his face, she took a deep breath and glared up at him. "How about we won't call the police and report you for trying to solicit minors?" she shot at him, considering the quickest route of escape if it came down to a sprint.

Galleai just smiled serenely. "I haven't got anything to give you." Perhaps it was perversity on her part, but she wasn't entirely stupid and she knew that one of the coven always tailed her when she went out. At least, ever since the Kaimi debacle they did. So while she didn't know who was lurking in the shadows, she knew that someone was. And maybe she just wanted to see some random a*****e get bitten. "But not calling the police sounds fair to me." She added.
The man smirked and then snorted, lunging towards Ishi. His huge, filthy hand grasped at the girl but never made it. Pale hands snaked from the shadows and snapped the man's neck effortlessly.

Ishizuke was off and running before she realized what had happened, and it was only the fact that Galleai, whose hand she was still holding, hadn't moved that kept her from getting far. Jerking to a halt, she turned and saw probably the most terrifying thing she had ever seen. "What......what just happened?" she whispered, sounding like she was about to cry and looking wide-eyed at Galleai. "He's..." she risked a glance at the man again and at the unnatural angle his neck, then shuddered, turned away, and doubled over. She coughed violently, shuddering as she attempted to keep from vomiting.

Galleai patted her friend on the back, brow furrowed with worry and shot a glare at the pale blond man who was lurking half in and half out of the shadows. "Was that really necessary, Apollo?" She asked with a prim little frown. "You've scared my new friend."
"You shouldn't have gotten yourself lost." The pale man responded with a feral grin. He did, though, cover the dead man with a cloak so that his body was hidden and kneel down by Ishi. "Hey, girl, don't be scared." And his voice was gentle and surprisingly sincere. "We can't have all of Gal's friends running away from her now."
"I'm sorry, Ishi. It's just Apollo. He's been following me to make sure I didn't get into trouble. I didn't know he'd do that. Are you okay?"

"I, yeah...I'm fine," Ishizuke said, glancing over her shoulder at Galleai but trying to avoid making eye contact with her or the...vampire. She still couldn't believe what just happened. Her stomach tightened again as she thought about it, and she gagged, forcing her stomach calm. She wouldn't vomit, not here, not in front of Galleai and the man. And after a moment, she was relatively calm again. Not sick. "I...think I need to go home," she said, turning to face Galleai but not meeting her eyes. "Juno will be worried about me. I just...I'm not sure how to get there," she added softly. "I've never been out here before."
The comment was directed more at Apollo than at Galleai, but Ishizuke didn't dare look up, for fear of being sick.

Apollo, not being a complete idiot, could clearly see that the girl was traumatized. Which made sense, he probably could have dispatched that guy quietly. He probably hadn't even needed to kill the man. A punch to the kidneys may have worked. Or even a few strong words. But Apollo, for all his boyish charm, enjoyed killing people and enjoyed making a show of it. It hadn't occured to him at the time that his antics might not be appreciated by Galleai's friend. Wether or not Galleai appreciated or was apalled by them didn't actually matter to him. She was part of the coven.
But he comprehended (if not understood) the sensitivities of most young girls. "We can walk you home. Or I can call you a cab." He offered.
Galleai just looked at Ishi in concern, fairly certain the girl would never want to come near her again. "I'm sorry, Ishi."

"No, I...I think I want to just walk," Ishi said, shaking her head at the offer of the cab. The last thing she wanted was to be enclosed in a strange car with a stranger and no way to pay him. "I'm just...a little turned around. I'm...I live on West Street at the moment. If you could show me how to get there, or go with me...I don't know, I just need to get home." She was near to tears now, but kept her composure surprisingly well for the situation at hand. She didn't look at Galleai as she murmured, "It's not your fault," but she couldn't help but wonder what sort of trouble she had just gotten into by befriending the girl.
This shouldn't have happened.
