I'd love it if more people were to dress Lolita in my school. I haven't yet seen a Loli that's I don't know, and it would be nice to meet other Lolis and talk to them.
As for HT, there are none in Canada, but on a trip to the US, I bought I pair of lace gloves there, but they ripped the first time I wore them. I think my hands are too big. sad

I really wouldn't mind the Lolita spreading much at all. More people would get into it but not by a lot because it's still too "different" by society standards. It would be nice to have a couple others around me dress like I do or try to dress.
I don't think I'd like for it to go into a huge mainstream fashion because then that would take out all of the joy of being a Loli, I wouldn't be different and it'd be a shame for it to become "just a fad" and that's all it would be remembered as if it became mainstream.
I don't mind if other dress in EGL but if they do it just because others do it then it's not right. Dress how you like, not how you feel you should because of others.

PsychodelicPenguin Seraphynthetic PsychodelicPenguin However, Based on what I observed from high school, 9th grade, when Good Charlotte and Avril came out, and were all badass, and Hot topic sprung up in everyone's language, and it seemed like just about everyone at my school wore something spiked or chained.. I'm mot saying people are bad, but were ignorant, when they strutted stuff they were very ill informed about. And that's something I dont want to happen to lolita, where it becomes a joke to wear, and it relates to Blah blah Famous Person who "brought it out" mad These are just my opinions though. I did go to Hot topic in 8th grade for my first time, and thought it was so cool. But then everything seemed to just fade or get nasty looking quickly, and I learned that the stuff in that store isnt that great. They do have nifty novelties though. But when I'm in the mall, I usually try to avoid that place. Now here's a question for you:
If I became an uber big fashion designer and designed only lolita style clothes (plus lingerie that isn't so very lolita but work with me here) would you hate ne because I am some "blah blah Famous Person who brought it out"? I mean that's my hopeless goal, but it may happen one day...in 20 years... >_<
And did it ever occur to you that Mana was one of those "blah blah Famous Person" people who helped to bring lolita more mainstream? Well at least in Japan anyway. And for a time if that (you're not so cool if you dress lolita now, which is considered Cosplay over there).I kind of ment someone like.. Gwen. Seems like she's suddenly bringing lolita and other types of Harjuku fashion out like it was some long lost species in the forest, when it really wasnt. I would hope you dont boast around saying you brought it out, when you more like embraced the fashion while it flowers more (because lolita is still evolving into many subgroups 3nodding ) So if you did that, no I wouldnt hate you. whee Gwen doesn't count. D: She just likes cosplay in general, even if she doesn't know what it is...I think she'd die if she found out...poor woman.. Besides, right now, Victorian fashion in general is becoming very popular (I even managed to piece together my first EGA outfit!!! biggrin ). Several fo the big time designers with their Parisian runways are trying to bring back the elegance of those days.

Nefarious Vile [Lolita] Ryashaa I do hate all this fuss about Hot Topic though. =/ I mean.. it's just a store. Seconded. 3nodding It's slightly annoying at times, but is it really that big a deal? So what if they have cheaply made, "alternative" clothes? If they have a cute loli dress, I'd still buy it regardless of its label. sweatdrop After all, we all know what's what and by who, so is it really a big deal if other people buy it? whee
I suppose I agree, as long as people portray it right and not try to make it into a slutty, cheap, or too gothic mainstream fashion. But I personally have a sticker that says ******** the mainstream. Most the things that are mainstream I just don't like but other things are okay. If the fashion or lifestyle (however you see it) ever became mainstream I wouldn't mind as long as it was done right. <3Nefarious i totally agree, but that does not give the "experienced" lolitas the right to be rude to new ones...

Um... Well. Am I proud to be a lolita? Yes.
But I DON'T wear it thinking "LOLZ I R SO INDIVIDUALZ!!" because I KNOW a LOT of girls out there own the same things I do. I wear it because I like it.
And I don't think it's best I go into my whole spiel about Hot Topic. To make it simple, their stuff is lolita-esque, NOT lolita, and I don't buy clothing there because I don't want to. I don't care if other people shop there -- shop where you want-- as long as they don't call it lolita.

I agree that hot topic does have.. On very, very rare occasion something good for lolita. I don't think I could ever find a whole outfit there, though, to be honest. But you'd be just as likely to find something at Kohl's.
The dress you got from there is very cute, but it's a bit short.
And what Gwen does is not at all lolita..

I don't mind lolita being worn by others than the usual, been-in-it-forever lolitas, as long as they do it WELL, or don't claim it as lolita. It annoys the beejeezus out of me to see girls at cons wearing a simple dress with a tiny bit of lace that isn't at all lolita, prancing around saying "I IZ SO RORI DESU" gonk But I am all for buying things at hot topic and other stores and making it work with proper coordination. 3nodding

I don't under stand what the subject has to do with that dress from hot-topic. And the dress doesn't look very lolita to me, because it's a bit too short and doesn't look like it would fit a good petticoat.

That dress you found was a wonderful Lolita-esq find! Is it truly lolita, some elitist would say no, I say it's almost there. But I love it none the less. And I don't really care what others say about dressing the way we do, if they want to fit the mold and try so hard to fit in with the people they call their friends then they can go right ahead and to that. I tried to be in the in crowd in the 8th grade, it was the worst year of my life. When I got to high school I was myself and did what I wanted to and couldn't have been happier! As long as you are happy don't let the labels get to you, just be yourself and enjoy your life.
NOW about the poll! I would love it if there were more lolitas in the world! If there were more lolitas then more people could find it and be happy like I am, like you all should be. If there are posers out there that want to do it because they think it would make them cool, let them try it out and once it doesn't work they wouldn't do it anymore. Sure it may be rough for a few years on some of us, but after that it will go back to the way it is now but with a few more girls to meet up with at conventions! heart

Fashion is not the really important. However it doesn't represent who we are and when we were. I feel soo beautiful when I dress in lolita. There are those who are more dedicated then I and others who just like to claim the name. Whatever you wear and whenever you wore it should reflect your image and how you feel as a person. Lolita will always be lovely to me, but only what I see lolita. So, if newer forms of lolita come about or people begin to dress in a lolita-esque form, it won't change my personal view of what it should look like.

First, I would like to say that there are pros and cons if Lolita became mainstream.
Pro: Those who are interested will learn of the whole culture of Lolita. Also, the culture will come to light. Lolita is often mistaken for a "French maid."
Con: There will be people who will bash on how "you shouldn't dress like that" and will misuse the name of Lolita.
I would like to say more, but my brain is drained from homework. (=_= wink
As of right now, I prefer that Lolita is nowhere mainstream. Most Lolitas (those who views Lolita as a lifestyle, not just fashion with frills, ribbons, lace, etc. and knew of this lifestyle before Shoju Beat's February issue) should not be mistaken by those who misuse the Lolita name. We, still maybe unknown to the main fashion limelight, should together and represent the Lolita name!
That probably did not make any sense at all....and keep on repeating "the Lolita name.' sweatdrop I apologize.
