Azlema Oo, I have another question! What is the concept of molarity and what it its relationship to osmotic concentration? Does molarity have to do with how you calculate osmolarity? I'm so confused!
1 mole of a substance is equal to its molecular weight expressed in grams. i.e. the molecular weight of sodium chloride (NaCl) is 58.44 therefore 58.44 g of NaCl = 1mole
Easy concept, yes?
Then... its relation to osmotic concentration:
Moles are used as a mass unit by biologists (and Chemists) in preference to grams because a mole of any substance contains the same number of particles as a mole of any other substance. This greatly simplifies calculations that deal with chemical reactions (including biologically relevant reactions such as buffering) and osmotic efffects. The number of particles, atoms or molecules in a mole of any substance is given by Avagadro's number which is about 602204500000000000000000 or 6 x 10^23

Note: I dont count English in aspects for some reason, since I know it by nature, sadly, so all others are my second languages, I guess. Hence I didnt make a mistake in saying I know 6. I do know 6 ~ others. wink

Azlema: why be ashamed? It's better than just being ignorant and never bothering knowing more than one. Spanish and English are good. I'm not so good on Spanish, the most I can do with is Dora The Explorer when I babysit. xd
