"I know where a group of five trees grow. Its in my parents territory actually, and a little ways from that is a big cave actually that branches off into like little rooms. Its pretty cozy there." Kartala watched as his fur stood up and laughed. "Porcupine-pup."

"Five trees together, that must be one of the biggest patches of trees here. The caves must serve as their den then huh?" Zufall asked. He laughed "we won't have to worry about me being attacked then," He said humorously.

"Mmm yeah its their den, its where I grew up." She smiled warmly at the individual at her side once more. She was rather smiley today and wasn't reallysure why, but hey, she wouldn't complain. As long as she didn't have to worry about seeing her brothers it was fine. "You wouldn't have to worry about that any ways. Not if you stick with me that is..."

Zufall nodded "so we are going through their territory?" He asked. He sprinted forward when he saw a structure a little ways ahead of him. It was what remained of a building but zufall had never seen anything like it before "what is that?" he asked slowing a little and nodding towards the structure in the distance.

Kartala put her ears back. "I don't know what that is Zu. Come back please." She was on alert now. She didn't smell any other helixes, but the cold weather did dull the nose. The small female was on high alert now and kept close to Zufall. "Please stay by me, I don't know if this is some ones teritory or not."

"But I don't smell anything so it doesn't belong to anyone," Zufall said looking the building over. "Can't we just take one peeK?" he asked a pleading look on his face. He trotted a couple feet ahead and looked back at her. As the building was coming into view it looked like there was a pile of rubble next to it and the upper right quarter seemed to be missing.

Kartala whined with unease but trotted after him. She should be able to smell danger any wways. After all she grew up here. Feeling better after that realization, she joined Zu in aproaching the impresive building. "Alright, but it doesn't look safe. So only a quick peek."

"Yay! Thanks Kartala," Zufall said turning and bounding to the building. He sniffed around the outside then there was a crumbling sound and another part of the building fell to the ground. Zufall jumped a little when it land a tail length away from where he was.
He turned towards an opening that looked like the entrance to a den. "I wonder who lived here," He thought outloud. He sniffed the entrance carefully and smelled a dead animal and a faint scent he hadn't encountered before.

Kartala's ears went back and she yelped when the building peice almost fell on Zu. "Ple-e-e-e-ase be careful!" She walked tentativly to the entrance, the crumbling steps didn't look too good. Her ears went forward as a decayed smell wafted to her nose. It wasn't very pleasent. "I don't feel safe here Zu." Her gold eyes darted from the pup to the temple and back again.

Zufall looked back at Kartala " I haven't got hit yet, but i'll be careful," He said before sticking a little bit of his nose in the opening. He yanked it back just as fast. "Eww," He said looking back in. He saw something shiny and walked inside even though it stunk.

Kartala sighed and carefully followed after him. "Yet. Lets try not at all." Her nose was rinkled and she tried breathing through her mouth, which helped a little bit with the stench.

Zufall following the stench deeep inside the building. Laying on the ground in an advanced state of decay was an odd creature Zu had never seen before. It had very little fur and long claws out of it's paws. The being also was covered in blood and looked like it had been killed by a bear, possibly a big helix. The thing was human but zufall didn't know that. "Hey Kartala, What is that thing?" he asked looking at it confused and a little scared.
In the humans hand was a cage with the bones of two birds in it. Zufall looked up and around taking in the scenery. All around inside the building were crosses and old stained glass. Near the very back was another cage by a door. this one had fairly fresh meat in it and it was open as if to welcome anything back there to come and take it.

Kartala's eyes widened as she looked at the dead creature before them. Her parents had told her storries about these odd animals. "Zu, we need to go." She looked at the mangled mess of rotting flesh. It didn't even look appealing. "Its a human. A dead human. They are dangerous and rare. More might be arround. Lets go." Her ears were allert and her golden eyes were darting all arround the surroundings, listening for more humans or what ever had killed it.

Zufall noticed Kartala's change in mood when she saw the creature. "A Hu-Man?" He asked looking at it then adding "they don't look dangerous." He looked down on the creature. He didn't understand how something with so little fur could survive in this place. He looked to the cage then back to Kartala and decided to turn around and live. It was probably going to take a month to get the stench out of their fur. "We should go now," He said.
In the distance there was a small rumble approaching. It was a small Snowcat heading to check the trap it had set for the animal that had killed the human. It was a white color to fit in with the environment.
Zu's ears popped up as he felt the vibration but he couldn't hear the source of the noise. He started backing up as the rumbling approached faster than a helix could run.

"Puppies don't look dangerous either, but your guys' teeth are sha-a-arp." Kartala shook her head. "Things arent always as they seem Zu, remember that." She was watching Zu when he spoke again and she noded. "I see your ready to listen to me." She gave him a smile and went twards the entrance.
Kartala froze and her eyes grew wide. "Don't protest Zu. What ever it is its close." She picked the pup up by the scruff of the neck and squeezed him behind a cross that stood in the corner of the room. "Zu, you stay here. Don't move and don't make a sound, got it?" She gave his cheek a reasuring lick and turned to a raised platform that was in the front of the building. There were more odds and ends up there to hide behind, and if it happened to find Zu, well she would certainly be a surprise. She layed down behind a dead and overgrown plant, so she could see if the rumbling came here.
