Aizen smiled and said, "It wasn't that bad. No one starts out graceful as the fish." He gave a thoughtful nod, his tail flicking slightly in curiosity, and asked, "You never learned how to swim?" Aizen had never met a dragonfly who didn't know how to swim, but he supposed that it was entirely possible.

Dolce lowered his head, looking bashfully at the ground. "I've never seen so much water before..." he mumbled. "At the mountain...there are only small ponds that come up to your paws..." he chuckled, turning red with embarrassment, "I guess there's always a first time right?"

Aizen nodded. "Always a first time indeed." He gave a thoughtful pause and wondered on what it would be like to live somewhere where the water only came up to one's paws. He shook off said thoughts and offered, "I can show you how to swim, if you'd like."

Dolce's head snapped up, "Really?! You're gonna teach me to swim?!" He was elated that he was going to learn to swim! He pranced around, much like a showhorse. "How do we start?! Where should we start?! Do you think I'll be any good?!" Dolce's pitch had changed to that of an excited child.

Aizen chuckled at Dolce's sudden enthusiasm. He was much like a young pup at the moment. Aizen gave a calm nod and said, "I think you'll do very good - swimming is truly very easy. And we can start now, if you'd like." He smiled warmly and gestured for Dolce to follow him. If Dolce wanted to swim properly, they'd need to start in a smaller pool rather than a river.

Dolce nodded, "Oh yes! Let's start now!!" he stared at the water and tilted his head. He examined the water and watched it ebb and flow. "...Is there something I should know about the water before I go in? Like stretching or something?" he looked to Aizen curiously. "I mean...I ran into it before and I almost drowned so..." he drifted off.

Aizen nodded calmly and once again gestured for Dolce to follow him. "Well, for starters, we're going to a small pond nearby to begin with. The river has a current that will pull and push you and that will make it hard to learn, but a pond is just still water." He walked away from the river in a westerly direction for almost ten minutes before stopping at the banks of a small pond. The pond was clear blue, made from rain in a naturally occurring ditch about eight feet across. It had no outlet to the river and thus the surface was smooth as glass.

Dolce followed after Aizen obediently, wondering where the pond was. He stopped after the blue dragonfly and smiled at the pond. "So this is where I will learn to swim?" he said nervously.

Aizen nodded and flashed Dolce a warm smile. "Yes. This where you will learn to swim." He walked very slowly into the still pond until he was treading water in the center of it. He moved only his legs beneath the surface and spoke to Dolce on the shore. "Notice how I move my legs. My right front and my right back move at the exact same time. My left front and my left back move at the same time. So, my right side of my body moves and then my left side does. Right, then left, then right, then left." He nodded and began to swim in slow circles, showing how he moved his legs, before coming back on shore.

Dolce watched carefully, "Right then left, right then left..." he muttered. He took a deep breath and slowly walked into the pond. 'Right, left, right...' he slowly kicked his legs in an alternating motion. Dolce felt himself float "Look! Look! I'm swimming!!" he exclaimed. He wasn't really swimming, but he thought he was. He was merely floating in place.

Aizen nodded. He was very proud of his friend. "Very good! You're learning very fast!" He waded into the pond as well and demonstrated turning. "Try turning, Dolce. Just lean your body towards the direction you want to turn and move your legs a bit faster. This will get you moving around." He nodded and made a few more turns to show him how it was done.

"Like this...?" Dolce asked leaning his body foward. He started to inch foward, his legs beginning to pump though the water harder. He laughed like a child, steering his body to and fro going in a zigzag-like pattern. "I never knew swimming could be so fun! Why haven't I been doing this?!"

Aizen nodded in encouragement while calling, "Yes. Yes! Just like that!" He swam over to Dolce and asked, "It's nice to try new things, right?" He gave a warm smile and gestured for Dolce to come into the center of the pool, where the water was deepest. "Are you still up for learning a few more tricks to swimming?" he asked with interest. Swimming took more work than running because water was more resistant than air. Since Dolce was just starting out, he could be tired and Aizen didn't want to overtax his student.

"It's great to try things!" Dolce chirped out happily. His limbs were tired, but he didn't want to give up. Dolce wanted to swim more, it was much too fun for him. "Of course! Show me!" he demanded much like a spoiled child. "I wanna do more! More!!"
