Ace swallowed, "You don't know how to make decisions for yourself, so I'd have to help you. A nude beach sounds like a good start, and while you're blindfolded and holding me back from the girls, we'll discuss how to make things better for you. A vacation is one thing, but it doesn't last. You need lasting changes. Things that make you feel happy and fulfilled. And I'm afraid that doesn't include being Miss 1950s Perfect Jim-Clone."
He took a big bite of the lasagna.

"I...I can so make descions for myself!" Joy defended herself with a wave of her fork. "I decided what college to go to and I decided what to make for dinner." She then paused and gave Ace a double blink.
"We? You...You intend to come with me? Well in that case a nude beach is certainly out of the question! I don't want to traumatize the girls of another country like that. We're still trying to show the world Americans are good guys. Taking you to a nude beach would be as bad as biological warfare!"
Joy indulged herself in a few more moments of the dinner. her eyes flicking to her heavily eating brother thoughtfully. She was trying to think of a good rebuke to his comment on being a Jim Clone...perhaps now would be a bad time to show him the business womans outfit of grey pinstripe she had picked up today? She thought it looked similar to some of Jim's work outfits, she had even bought a cute pastel pink tie to go with it...

"Can you make important life decisions without following someone else around?" Ace asked, then sighed. "I just want you to be happy. I don't want you doing stuff for Dad or me or no one else."
He shook his head, "You should move to Ireland instead of just visiting then. What DO you want to do? "

Joy's answer was to take a deep long drink of her juice...and inwardly wish she'd been naughty enough to buy a bottle of real wine instead. It may have made the tenseness in her shoulders ease off. Perhaps if she excused herself to the bathroom real quick...
"I do not think I've had many important life descions to make bef---- What!?" Joy's fork slipped from her fingers and struck the table with a clatter.
"Ace! Daddy would NEVER approve of that! You know that! He'd be so angry if I even suggested----" She halted her words. Inadvertantly Ace had, perhaps knowingly, nudged her into more or less admitting the real motive behind her usual choices. With a sigh Joy forced herself to lean back in her chair.
"I do not know Ace. I mean a vacation would be wonderful, but then I'd be so far away from home, I'm sure the change wouldn't be that big either. Things would stay the same there as they are here. I suppose.... I suppose I've sometimes...It's really silly though Ace." her hand lifted in a faint and slightly weak gesture. "You'd think I was just being a kiss up still."

"Oh, you're being a kissup, and you'll always be a kissup. That's who you are, but I wish you would kissup to someone that would make you happy. I mean, I wouldn't be mawing a girl that didn't make me happy. I wish you wouldn't." Ace went to put another forkful into his mouth, then made a disgusted face, "Not that you actu--well--you know what I mean. Uh---"
He shook his head, having completely lost his train of thought with the disgusting image.

Joy's green eyes fixed on Ace for a few moments, then she finally asked...blurting out the question in a style that was a echo of her own brothers smoothness.. "Ace do you have a girlfriend!?"

"Oh..." Well that was a mild downer. Joy watched Ace's fork for a moment before replying. "No. I haven't had any free time for ...wait...did you just ask me if I had a girlfriend?" Joy's red brow perked lightly at her brother, hoping to maybe lighten the mood from the gloom that kept hedging in.

"I know you already have a girlfriend, why would I ask that?" Ace shot out, then put his hand over his mouth and started laughing, "Hey, I do have a number for you to call then." Ace pulled his cellphone out of his pocket, "Ready for it?"
Mischeiviousness was back.

"Gah! Ace!" Her outraged cry was tempered by the laugh that followed it..and the piece of garlic bread that she flicked at her brother. "You better not be giving me some girls number or I swear I'll tell them about your footy PJ's!"

Ace didn't even look up as he held his phone up to bounce the bread off of, "No, not a girl's. Come on, are you going to take this or not? Joy, you have to take this. Joy. Joy. I have a number for you. Jooooy...."
It wasn't until Joy would relent and get the number of "Mystery Boy" that Ace would let up, and that was with a very firm warning that he would make sure she'd call later on.
Then he sat back with a smirk, "So, Joy. What are you going to do to make your own joy in your life? It's your personal name, you know. You don't have to be anyone else's joy. Just Joy's joy."

Joy wanted to say no...tried to say no...for all she knew the boy was a spaz like her brother...but after all of his insistance she finally copied the number into her cell phone and saved it under a questionmark.
"There? Happy? We'll...see..." Was all she would promise Ace. Perhaps if she got curious enough...
"Ah...well.." Ace was such a instigator! "I guess...my original idea? A vacation somewhere far away from home where I can let my hair down..indulge in a international romance hopefully....maybe see some...well.."
Joy's face began to flush as she looked back down at her plate. "I guess what I'd like to do is look up some of...the...I mean...." She knew she wouldn't have to make Ace promise not to tell their father but...
"I want to meet some evolveds in other countries...and maybe...learn their powers... I mean..I haven't done anything since highschool. Once i completed my training I just..well..."

Ace's eyes lit up. "That is awesome. That would be fun. You should go see Sir Hyland, actually. Go bug him to meet others. I would totally go with you on that, but I want you to have fun if you want to and stuff... Ooh, Hyland's boys are all grown up now." He winked, "Hot stuff, that can be your little international relationship! But first you have to call Ne--Mr. Nobody mystery man and go on a blind date or something."
Ace was positively bouncing in his chair at this point. "What happens across seas stays there. And on blind dates."

At the mentionion of Sir Hyland...and his boys.... Joy's face turned the same color as her sweater. "Oh Ace I couldn't bother Mr. Lesley! I'd feel like I was imposeing to just show up expecting someone to keep me company and..and...Oh no no no!" Her hands lifted to wave at her brother in small fluttering motions.
"I'm sure his son's already have girlfriends of their own, and i couldn't get involved in a vacation fling with someone I already know! There could be hard feelings if they knew I was just ...possibly looking for...I mean..."
Her eyes flickered down to the phone, her cheeks still as pink as ever. "I do agree about...the across the seas thing. thatsa why I want to go. no strings attached. No expectations...no one watching me... But a blind date...We'll see Ace..."

Ace was laughing heartily, "But what other cuteness is in England than the Hylands? I thought you were supposed to do something to make you happy. Wouldn't that do it?" He winked at her, then waved his hand, "Or don't, you'd be too frightened to do so. Whatever, Joy. Just make sure you call that boy. When you come back I want you to have a whole hoarde of ideas for your own life."
Ace grinned, "Now. What other entertainment do we have for the night?"
