Do you really think Silent will name her baby what we vote on?
Nah... but it's a fun thing to do, and she might get some good ideas.

Well you could always name the child after someone who gained your respect.

For example, my first born son (when and if) will be named Jacob, and we will call him Jake.

Why?

Let me tell you the story, as was told to me by my Father about his Uncle Jake.

When Jake was 8 years old, he was living in Koln Germany back near the turn of the 20th century. His house had a large colored glass mosaic window off their front door, every now and again Jake would be in a hurry to leave the house and would slam the door behind him. Since these were the days before shock resistant tempered glass, the mosaic would lose a few panes of glass every time he did it. This would require his father to not only replace the broken pieces, but would have the father (Great Grandpa Morris) to beat the tar out of Jake, as was the style of child discipline in the early 1900s.

One day, Jake's older brother ran out the door, slammed it behind him and broke the glass. Jake's Father assumed it was him and would again, beat the tar out of him. This caused Jake's brother to become racked with guilt and he confessed to breaking the glass. Jake's Father felt awful about it then and was very upset at himself for blaming Jake for something he didn't do.

So Jake picked himself up, walked to the front door and slammed it as hard as he could, shattering the glass mosaic. He looked to his father and said....

"You owed me that one."

For such PHENOMENAL CHUTZPAH, I am naming my first born son after Jake. Because the world needs people like that.

Now I want a son to name Jake, too! Ohh, I love a kid with reasonably-timed chutzpah.

Cool! I was appartently named after my Great Aunt, Nediva who was also a redhead, so there are the similarites with my Hebrew namesake.

My Canadian (?) namesake is my Grandma who apparently hated the winter, but when my Uncle was born in winter, she loved it so much that shew changed her name to Wynter.

Heh biggrin

Heh- my English namesake was apparently an extremely intelligent (I'll keep trying!) engineer who built my grandma's house. Unfortunately, he was also known for being incredibly stubborn (They really shouldn't have told me that part, as now I take great pride in being stubborn) and had great integrity. All in all, I wish I could have met him. smile

My namesake is my great- grandfather.

I have some cool tales about my family, too, but I can't tie them in like Neuf so I'll leave that thought aside.

That would be a great separate thread, though ... biggrin *copyrights idea so no one will steal idea*

My name is not related to any family member. Its simply that as my parents wanted it to be a declaration of faith.
