Gavin bobbed his head in acceptance, then turned to Fern and grinned, backing up. He looked at her as if admiring a piece of fine art. " Vanimle sila tiri! You look beautiful." He said, sending her a crooked smile. It was completely true. For a moment, he forgot how to breath. The dress was exquisite and austere, which suited her fae beauty perfectly.

The once black-winged angel sat down in the sitting area, with a plate somewhat full of food.
He looked across the ball room and sighed when he didn't find either Anna nor Pyralis, the only two in probably the entire academy that he knew. Damien poked at his food a few times before he once again readjusted his tie. He then started slowly eating the food on his plate.

Any sort of large gathering was a habitual eavesdropper's paradise, and Gerald listened to the idle chatter as he explored the room. Occasionally, something caught his interest, and he would stop, as though searching the room, and listen for a moment or two. Mostly, he kept wandering. On the open side of the hall, couples were taking the floor and beginning a waltz, some more dignified than others. Gerald caught a glimpse of black wings and recognized the older man they belonged to dancing with a similarly endowed woman. They made quite a sight together, and he could see other faces watching them from the crowd. Most of the other couples on the dance floor were unfamiliar, although he vaguely recognized a few people from his class. In fact, many people in the crowd he didn't recognize at all; the student body was a lot larger than one might assume at first glance. A flash of cream caught his eye, and he glanced over to see MaryAnne moving to pour some punch at the buffet table. She was alone, he noted with some confusion. How could a girl that pretty be alone? In his experience, beautiful girls were always surrounded by admirers. For a fleeting moment, he thought about going over, maybe asking her to dance... but he hardly knew her beyond a few scattered meetings over the first semester. Besides, she was utterly and completely out of his league. If there was one thing Gerald understood all to well, it was his place in society. Still, he hovered, a part of him annoyed that someone wasn't paying her more attention. He searched until he found Fern, chatting with an oddly-dressed young man. Was he her date? Gerald didn't recognize him. Giving in to curiosity, he shadowed MaryAnne from a distance, planning to eventually seat himself somewhere nearby.

Fern looked down with a laugh. "Thank you, Gavin..." Her bright, dark eyes looked up once more. "You don't think it looks silly? It's so not like anyone else's... I almost feel strange." Strange of course from a dress, not from the fact that she had two glistening, incandescent wings sprouting from her back. That never would have occurred to Fern to feel odd because of them.
((just so's everyone knows, the characters done by Arondis won't be making their appearance for a few more days as she's quite busy with the holidays))

Gavin smiled. " And that is precisely why it suits you so well, mellonamin, my friend." He grinned. " Truly, you look exquisitely lovely." It seemed he was in the mood to drop in as many comments as he could, and all were completely serious. " So, who was your friend here earlier?" He asked after admiring her for a few more moments. The angel had left in a hurry, and it made him wonder why.

Fern looked over to the distant figure of MaryAnne. She was so lovely there, alone and innocently pouring punch into a glass. Fern wondered how on earth someone didn't snatch her up on finding out there was a dance. A grave injustice, to be sure. But, that made her wonder for a moment why no one had asked her. It only made her feel even more strange in this place full of humans and odd things.
"Well, she's MaryAnne," she began, getting a bit closer to Gavin so that she could lower her voice and still be heard. "She's a lovely angel, isn't she? Very sweet. Maybe a bit high-strung at times, but she has the best intentions, she does. I like her."

The angel poured punch into the provided champagne glasses, one for herself and the other for Fern. She hummed, singing softly with the music that the orchestra wove with their instruments and swayed her way slowly back to the two, slightly hesitant to return really. MaryAnne could feel the attraction between them - at least, she thought that's what that was - and didn't want to be a hovering gnat. MaryAnne glided between the seating arrangements and tables, taking the long way around and looking around discretely. She caught a glimpse of Sebastian and his presumed company as she watched the couples out on the ballroom floor admiringly. Her blue eyes glittered with the reflection of the decorative lights and glimmer off of girl's dresses; all the while, she was aware of another's gaze on her, she just couldn't detemine from whom it was - there were too many people. All she knew, was that it seemed oddly familiar. The blond caught herself as she nearly tripped on the hem of her skirt, wings loosening to catch her as she did, and she steadied herself, glancing around to make sure no one had seen, and kept walking.

Gerald very nearly cringed when MaryAnne stumbled slightly. Not only had MaryAnne been getting her own punch, but also she had been asked to get punch for someone else. In a cream-colored gown. This was a disaster in the making. Could only he see this? No one else seemed to pay her any notice, even when she flicked her wings slightly to regain her balance. Gerald himself was used to being ignored, but he wasn't a beautiful angel with white feathered wings in a perfect, shining gown. It boggled the mind how oblivious the general public could be sometimes. He was so busy watching MaryAnne make her way around the room that he very nearly walked into a small group of students chatting between some of the tables. He murmured a polite apology and went around. Where was she going? They'd almost circled half the seating area. He knew he was being a bit irrational. He had no business trailing her around at all... but if she tripped, he would never forgive himself. Luckily, no one so much as glanced at him as he wove through the chairs and tables. If they had, they might have wondered where the normally laid back young man was going with such purpose.

Sebastian swept them onto the dance floor, gently guiding Evy into an easy waltz. Once she became accustomed to the steps, he began to turn them slowly. "They gain us attention, sure, but afterwords they will only be looking at you." He smiled. "We are two beings who once new what the light of Heaven looks like. Now we can share a little of that with them, perhaps." He noticed that several others began moving onto the floor as they had. He laughed, "Even now they mimic us." Samyule sighed. I guess it's just you and me then. Forgive me, but." He reached in the pocket of his jacket and pulled out something small and round. He took her hand and slid a bracelet up her wrist. "Your customs are for the gentleman to give the lady flowers. Where I came from, we give these."

Ellas cheeks turned very, very red but it was to her credit that she did not sputter, giggle, or flash a goofy grin. She only smiled slyly. " Well, they certainly last longer than flowers, do they not?" She grinned, ignoring the flush in her cheeks. " Thank you." She beamed at him, and patted down the sides of her dress. " I'm afraid I'm fresh out of things to give you, but if we end up under mistletoe, just let me know." She said in a joking tone, despite being quite serious.
Evangeline rolled her eyes, tucking her wings in as he spun her about. " Are you always this cocky, or is it just me?" She asked, tilting a dark brow at him. " I highly doubt we are being mimiced, as those who are one the dance floor are clearly couples and we are not, the last time I checked." Payback for his teasing earlier. She allowed a sly, playful little smile on her face, something that suited her features quite well. She ment no insult, only to continue on with that verbal swordplay they obviously knew well enough to master and exploit the basics.

"One does not need to be a flower to look like one." He said in return, watching where he was steering them rather than risk catching her glance. If he did, he might have lost his nerve. It was a rather tenuous thing when developed, but he had learned it at the side of his Angelic mentor during his medical training. "As for the cockiness...I can only claim to be such when I have the upper hand over you, as I do in these situations. Though admittedly," he said frowning "I don't look nearly as lovely in a dress."
Samyule immediately glanced to the ceiling. "No mistletoe here. Damn. Hold on to that, though. You'll owe me later." He said with a wink. Looking around he noticed that the others had left them. "Seems we've lost our party, though. Have you guys reserved a spot, or were you planning on standing all night long?"

That mental image teased a wonderful laugh from her, which dissolved into giggles soon there after. They continued to waltz, and she continued to press her lips together and smile, to stop herself from laughing. " The upper hand? I think not, my friend." She said finally when the unexpected giggles finally went away. " You may look wonderfully dashing in that tux, but as you said.." She shook her head. " It would be frightful and debilitatingly funny to see you in a dress." Not exactly what was running through her head at the time, but it worked.
Ella smiled at him. " I think they did it on purpose. Danni did atleast, Colin and Rosie are all couply now and off in their own little world." She slipped her arm around his casually with a smile. " I'm sure if we find an empty table, they'll flock over once they get tired." She glanced around the room for a empty space.

MaryAnne came to Fern's side and offered her the champagne glass of punch with a smile, sipping at her own which was already nearly empty. "Here you are dear. Sorry if that took too long," she smiled to the young elven man and addressed him. "Terribly sorry about going off like that. My name is MaryAnne Lightburn," she said as she extended her free hand to him for a handshake, though the movement wasn't in a business-like manner. Her form teetered slightly under the skirts of her dress but she caught herself, wings opening just slightly again, giving away that she'd lost her balance. Sometimes her wings were her only saving grace from her landing on her face. It occured to her that she'd probably discard her shoes by the end of the night, then with a bit of horror, wondered if they were allowed to do that.

Sebastian frowned. "I'd rather thought that I was the social being in our relationship." Nevertheless, he had to admit she was handling the situation well. "Let's just say, I don't believe my place is on a battlefield...there you have the upper hand. However, you were not trained to be socially graceful." He said, apologetically. "We compliment each other's strengths. That's why Kaien called both of us."
Samyule shrugged. "Ah well, we're on our own then. Other than those angel people," He said nodding at MaryAnne, Sebastian, and Evy in turn. "nothing terribly interesting has happened yet." He chose them a table at the center of the room, certain that since their group tended to attract notice they would prefer to be the center of attention.

Fern nodded thankfully to her friend and sipped the punch. It was like a humming bird drinking nectar from a flower, but she reminded herself to sip slowly so as not to look like a half-starved thing.
"Thank you, MaryAnne," she said, keeping quiet so her and Gavin could properly introduce themselves.
