Skye was surprised by that bit of information.
"Suzura's birthday is the same as mine?" she asked, suddenly excited. "That is very interesting! And Serenity, my sister, it is her birthday too! All three of us on the same day!"
She giggled, slipping one arm around Syrus's side to hug him back, and keeping it there afterwards.
"My family uses two calendars," she explained then, wanting Syrus to understand so that he wouldn't think she was strange. "Mama comes from a different world, so she teached us her calendar when we were little. But Papa and Grandma are from Gaia, and we live in Gaia, so we also use Gaia calendar, too. But Grandpa is ... how you say ... Chinese? So we have his calendar too, but it is confusing and we do not use it much ... but we have three New Years celebrations, one for Gaia, on first January, and for Arda, on six April, and one for Chinese, but it is different every year."
And of course, using three different calendars meant three times the celebrations, as they celebrated three different cultures as well. To be honest, though - the elvish ones made the most sense.

"Wow..." Syrus commented. "You seem to have a rather large family full of all sorts of cultures. It must be interesting at your home," he said, laughing lightly. He honestly didn't have that interesting of a family, not like Skye's, but he still loved them all.
"Confuuuusing..." was Mummymon's comment.

Skye giggled at Syrus, not at all realizing that Mummymon had even spoken.
"You should come to visit sometime," she suggested brightly. "I can give you a map to the clan grounds, and to where me and Serenity live. It is just the two of us, because the houses are not so big to fit the whole family in one house, so we live in many houses. It is very nice, though, and we can see Mama and Papa whenever we like, except when they are gone."
Like now, when they were visiting her mother's home world for the weekend.

"That sounds like it would be an adventure in itself!" he said, rather intrigued by this place that Skye kept talking about. "I'd be honored to come and visit your home at some time," he stated with a nod and a smile.
The waitress came back with two mugs of hot chocolate and set one in front of Skye and Syrus respectively. She then stated quickly that their food will be coming in just a few minutes before she headed off again.

"It is very fun," Skye assured Syrus, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "And Jair and Naida have waterways to live in, and waterfalls to play in ..."
She was interrupted by the arrival of their hot chocolates, and she smiled at the waitress as she hurried off again.
Once they had been left alone again, Skye leaned forward and inhaled the aroma of the hot drink.
"Mmmm," she murmured softly. "It smells very good ..."

Syrus picked up his cup gingerly, though set it down again as he realized the cup was a bit hot to the touch. He smiled, though looked at her in a curious manner.
"Jair? Naida? More of your family?" he asked.

Skye wrapped her hands around her mug, loving the way it warmed her right up, even before drinking any of it, and nodded at Syrus's question.
"Jair and Naida are mers," she explained. "Jair is my littlest brother, and Naida is my ... how you say ... cousin. But they have to live in water, so Jair lives with Naida and my aunt and uncle in the water that goes everywhere in the clan grounds. There are streams and waterfalls for them to play in, and underground water places for them to live ..."
She smiled wistfully. "I wish I could see where they live, but I cannot hold my breath long enough. It is a long way under the water, underneath Mama and Papa's house."

Syrus mused to himself for a few moments, thinking.
"Well, I know of things...like charms I guess...that can let people breathe underwater. It could be a rumor, but I am not all that attuned to the magical relm, and thus I don't know that much. Also, if you really want to, you could ask the goddess at the magic school to teach you a spell so you can breathe underwater. I know Suzura really wants to learn something like that. She's fascinated with water," he stated finally.

"That is true," Skye mused thoughtfully, her eyes fixed on Syrus's face. "My oldest brother Celebor, he learned from the goddess Minty how to breathe under the water ... I have not seen him for a very long time," she added sadly, picking up her mug and swirling its contents slowly. "He has his own family now and lives in this world somewhere, I do not know where."
She lifted her mug and took a sip, and the rich hot liquid warmed her immediately. She smiled. It did taste wonderful - Syrus had such wonderful taste.
"It is good," she smiled at him, setting the hot chocolate down again and turning back to him. "Thank you for suggesting it."

Syrus smiled and nodded before taking a sip from his own mug, enjoying the warming sensation as well as the liquid trickled down his throat.
"It must be sad, not being in touch with part of your family...has he visited at all since making his home here in the Second's world?" Syrus found it odd that Skye didn't even know where he was, but then again her family was large. SOMEONE had to know, right?

"I think ... one time," Skye said reluctantly, her eyes growing shadowed, though she kept her gaze on Syrus so that she wouldn't miss if he said anything. "And he came to Mama and Papa's wedding ... but since then we have not seen him or heard from him ..."
Still, they knew he was all right ... otherwise one of his children, or probably his mate, actually, would have told them something. He was probably just enjoying his new life with his new family, that was all.
"But if he is happy," she added, smiling again, "then we are happy for him. Still, I would want to visit my family sometimes, I think, when I am married."
She nodded certainly, then blushed, only then realizing the implications of her statement. She couldn't face Syrus anymore, not after saying something like that - and she turned her eyes to her mug of hot chocolate and lifted it to her lips, taking a long, slow sip.

Mummymon was the one that found this chain of events most interesting. He knew Syrus would just leave her be, but she was facing him, so he supposed he could ask.
Wiggling off the scarf slowly, he got used to breathing without it on his face for a few moments.
"Skyyyyyyyee?" he inquired finally, not saying anything more until he knew if she could understand his drawn out way of speaking.

Skye's gaze was attracted to the movement of Mummymon removing his scarf finally, and, her face still a shade of bright red, she watched as he tried to speak to her. She tried to follow his mouth as he spoke, but she was used to people speaking much, much faster, and it didn't make any sense to her. She copied the movements of his mouth with her own, the air hissing between her tongue and the roof of her mouth as she felt for the right meaning. There was the little click of the throat, she knew that one, too ... and then the slight opening of the lips ...
He was saying her name.
"Yes?" she asked quietly, her wings fluttering slightly, the only indication (other than the redness of her face) that showed how flustered she was.

Mummymon waited paciently for her to figure out what he was saying. She seemed awefully flustered, and what he was about to say probably wasn't going to help her any, but he desided to speak about it anyway.
"Iiiiiiiitt's siiiillly," he began, ignoring Syrus' confused and concerned gaze. "Juuuussst woooonnndeeeriiiing whhhhhhhyyyy yoooooouuuu ac-ck-t-iiiiiiinnngg fuuuuunnnyyy. Liiiike Syyyruuussss, yeeesss? Whhaaatts wrroong wiiith beeeing maaaarrrrrieed?"

It took quite a while for Skye to figure out what Mummymon was saying, but once she did she blushed again. It wasn't that there was anything wrong with the idea ... it was just ... how could she dare even hope for something like that, when they had just started dating? Sure, they were Seconds, and everything about Seconds went quickly - but it was their first real date, and it was too soon to be thinking about marriage.
Wasn't it?
"Nothing wrong," she replied hesitantly, "just ... a big step. It is very big to think of ..."
And what if she was jumping to conclusions? She couldn't make any assumptions. It wouldn't be fair to Syrus.
