Diro watched Tou pass him and zoom across the water. He quickly followed after her, and almost went right by her when she came to a sudden stop. "Are you okay? That was a tad fast.. Although, it's probably my fault. I did tell you to kick and paddle faster..." He stood on the river's bed, barely reaching the bottom with the pads of his hind paws.

"Eee, it was ok. It's not your fault, I kinda' got carried away." Tou replied as she clambered out onto the bank. "I'm hungry. Maybe we could find some food, then try again?"

He smiled. "Okay. What shall he go eat, oh mighty purple one?" He never teased other people like he was teasing Tou right now. Why was it that he felt so... Comfortable around her? Not that he didn't mind... He could actually find out what kind of person he was around Tou. And she was fun to play with.

She giggled. "Well, oh superior green monkey, do you think theres any food around here? We could go back to the HQ, but it's much more fun here." Normally, when someone teased her like this, Tou would become rather moody. But when it was Di, she truely knew he was only teasing, and he didn't really mean it.

"True, true, oh queen of all tacos. There's probably some kind of fruit-bearing tree around, if you don't mind apples and cherries. And maybe some blueberries, if we're lucky." He grinned. "Besides, I believe the HQ doesn't have any blueberry bushes where you can pick the fresh ones right off."

"Oh, cherries are lovely. Mum buys them in big boxes all the time. Shall we go searching then?" Tou said as she began sniffing the air. "Maybe there'd be some in the forest bit up there?"

"Sure. Maybe we'll find the ripest cherries and be able to bring 'em back to the HQ. Then everyone there could enjoy them too." He grinned and sped up, walking backwards so he could talk to Tou better. "Or we could eat them all and turn into round furry balls that slihtly resemble Skull Monkies. Your choice." Suddenly, Di backed into a tree with a tiny 'oomph'. It shook slightly, and a semi-ripe apple fell down and clonked him on the head. He had tiny x's in his eyes for a moment or two, before shaking his head rapidly and rubbing it. "Well... I found an apple tree..."

Tou giggled. "Maybe we could just eat a few ourselves, because if we took them back everyone would wonder where we got 'em from, and then we'd have to lie or tell them about our secret!" she said, rather worried. Tou soon forgot about that as she noticed the apple. A few minutes later, she decided to try and do what Di did, run into the tree.
... but it didn't work. "Ow ..."

Diro laughed softly at Tou's attempt of getting an apple out of the tree. "I don't think that's a good way of getting the apples out of the tree... We'd get a headache or cracks in our skulls before we got a lot of them." He rubbed his head again. "Why don't we work on our climbing skills?" He turned around and wrapped his forelegs around the trunk. He then procceded to shuffle up the tree, almost reaching the top before sliding down the trunk again. He sweat-dropped. "Maybe you should try...?"

Tou nodded eagerly. She ran to the same tree, and leaped on it in a hugging shape. She slowly shuffled up until she came to the first branch. After pausing for a minute, the child grabbed the branch and pulled herself up. She was still quite a bit from the apples, but it was a start. "Hey Di, try get up here! It's not that far .."

"Okay..." Once more, Diro tried to climb the tree. Every once in a while he would slip down it's trunk an inch or two, but her always regained them. Finally he made it up to the branch Tou was sitting on, panting slightly but still slightly grinning. "Apparently I'm not very cut out for climbing..."

Tou grinned happily. "Now, we need to get up to that next branch up there .." she pointed to a rather flimsy looking branch where three juicy red apples hung above, and continued "... where those apples are. Y'wanna' go first, or shall I?"

- A WEEK LATER -
Tou sat on a low branch of a huge oak tree, her paws dangling down into the shallows of the river lazily. She hadn't seen Di for a week now, as he had gone on vacation with his mother. She sighed heavily, tail now dipping in the water also.

Diro trotted into the forest clearing that he and Tou had found. Having grown quite a bit during his trip with his mum, he was happy to be home again and to see his friends from this perspective. Portaging a canoe and being eaten by mosquitoes hadn't been that much fun either... Sighing, he sat by the river bank and watched the fish swim around in it.

Hearing footsteps, Tou jerked on the branch, her back end falling leaving her clinging to the branch with her front paws. She growled loudly, her back legs flailing around in a panic.
