It was hard not for Jace to shriek as well, at that bloodcurdling noise, but somehow she squeezed her eyes shut and simply breathed out through her nose a couple times. She swung her leg in front of them in a swift roundhouse, which passed through the twins and only left a kind of haze in its wake; but somehow knowing that they were both intangible helped, and she pushed Irelia onwards to one of the little beds that hadn't been filled.

"Other one counts the other kid," she muttered, "the one that I blew away to Kingdom come. C'mon, Rel. God I wish we knew what the ******** we were doing. What now?"

Irelia shuddered and squeezed her eyes shut, denying that yes, she had seen a childs head fall off and spiders climb out. Irelia knew she would see that image for years to come.

Letting herself be led, Irelia sank down on to one of the beds, despite herself. Her knees were weak and though her eyes were tightly shut, she still felt the gaze of the ghosts around her.

"I haven't the slightest idea," Irelia said quietly, "I just need to find out if my heart exploded or not. I think it might have."

"Less heart palpitations, you can have your heart palpitate later. Tell it to shut its s**t up."

She was obviously agitated, and kept shifting from foot to metal foot as she gazed around the room; her gaze kept flickering from child to silent, pale, ghostly child, each of them lying still on their little bed. The water sloshed near-slightly up against the walls in the other rooms, lapping a little, filling both of them with a terrible sense of dread: it was as though they were both waiting now, and they had no plan.

"We've got to do something," said Jace, sounding in a bit of a daze.

With shaking hands, Irelia pulled out her book- it was old and heavy, its bindings tarnished with unknown age. It was older than she was, Irelia knew it, though she still had no idea what its origins were. It just was, and always had been.

And it had to go.

"We need to burn this ********. Burn the connection between me and it. Lets make a firewall, a raging inferno, whatever. Sever the s**t's tie to the land- and sever its tie to me," with an evil glint in her eye, Irelia chucked,"plus it will be so satisfying."

Pulling out one of her steel stakes (her and Jace hadn't any clue what they would have to face, and so they had prepared for everything) Irelia staked her shaking book through the center of the cover, the stake sliding through the bindings like rubber.

"Nice for my powers to come in handy. Now its your turn. Let's burn this ******** DOWN."

Jace and Irelia launched into their secret handshake. It was not actually that secret: it was simply a high-five followed by a knuckle-grab, ending with a dape. "Baby, are you sure," she was saying. "That's your book, that's your -- you know, this is a thing, I don't want us being retards and this ending in your Neverending Story being that you explode and I accidentally killed you because I burnt your book. So. You better be ready."

The darkness was gathering all around them, cloying and thick. The dread was like whipping cream, building up, doubling in size. Whatever the case was they were making it angry; so, well, she counted that as cool, they were being retarded but they were also doing it right.

Jace crouched down and reached a hand out in the damp. For a few moments her fingers glowed, and then sparked with tiny embers; and then, fire. She held her fingers to the cover of the book as the glow travelled up her hand, the sudden blast of hot air on both of their faces as her hand moved up the domain from red-hot to white-hot. The book was sizzling: the children started crying, and that made Jace nearly stop in fear before her resolve gained and she held her hand to the bindings.

Irelia tensed, expecting it to hurt but she felt nothing as the thick yellow papers erupted in flame.

"I think its alrigh-" Irelia started but was stopped as the inky hand of their ghost clamped it over her mouth.

"T-thiiiiissss m-mmmussttttt ssssstttooooopppppp."

The children all stopped screaming and turned their heads, perfectly in unison, to watch Jonathon.

"E-eennnoughhh offf yyouurrrr dddaangerouusss ideassss. Mmmyy maaassterrrsss liiinkkk isss sevvvereddddd. Asshhheeerrrr dddoooeeesss nooottt ruuulleeee mmmyyyyy accctiiionnnnssssss," Irelia's eyes widened at this turn of events.
