How can anyone dare say destroy the cowbell? What would alot of songs be without more cowbell? I mean even Christopher Walken wants more cowbell, and dang it I say more shall be given!
Anyways, recorders are the epic pail of instruments, and then synthesizers (wrong spelling), because they are not instruments. Darn you rap >_< you are not music!

xx-- H i n a Piccolos. @________@ They aren't instruments; they're a torture device! xD Oh, and open-holed flutes. x____x; Those are....like insanely hard to play (imo). .________. Theres a reason why band directors only favor one pic in a wind ensemble like concert band XD but it should not be banned and pic is irritating but its importance can not be let go a pic. as for a open hole flute it depends on ur fingers(and there are makers of flutes that make it more smaller) and it more for the adept player, if u stick with a student model your hole life ur stuck in a middle school world my band directer would want flute players to get open hole flutes so our sound is open and clear and says that most band don't get that concept sometimes and their sound is completely more "closed and airy.

Envious26 French horns should be banned from the people who can't play them... Which is the majority. Sorry. razz I agree, even though I play the French horn. It's really difficult to play. There are some days when I have trouble, but there is this one girl at my school who just sucks completely. I also think the oboe should be banned. It's just annoying. No offense to anyone who plays it.

And open-hole flutes have a way prettier tone and are not hard to play. Just don't be all lazy, cover the holes with your fingers! I think clarinets should be banned. I just think they are bleh instruments and Squidward plays clarinet.

Harsh Marsh xx-- H i n a Piccolos. @________@ They aren't instruments; they're a torture device! I love my Piccolo.. What's so bad about it? Open hole flutes are... WEIRD. Why are the keys open? Actually pics aren't that bad. Believe me if I can get an entire piccolo line in tune anyone can...Yes there was 24 flutes, 20 of them where pics....yay college.
Open hole flutes have better tone quality than closed. Granted closed are a lot easier to play, but still once you learn to play without the help it's great. It's then that you need to look into inverted and inline G keys...let me tell ya inline G's SUCK!!! they're super hard to play and just AHH.(for inline G if you look down the flute and all teh keys are inline then there ya go.)
I don't think that any instrument should be banned...Granted I'm learning how to play any brass instrument at the moment because marching band + flute= NOT WORKING! Flutes are more of a concert instrument, and a pic, well they're loud and can be heard, but if you can't play please stop. xDD

piccolos! though my best friend is one and they are fine when played right but they hurt your ears when played alone. and beginner oboes(though i was one too) recorders shouldnt even count as instraments, and flutes rock!(i am forced to say that as i am friends with all flutes except one)

And I take offense to that trumpet comment you piccolo-puffing pretender! The trumpet is the greatest instrument around. I believe the piccolo should be melted to make pretty designs on the trumpet twisted

Okay, for those of you who say that the beginner clarinets are horrible, I agree that they can be. But that doesn't mean that you should get rid of the clarient. I play the clarinet, and let me tell you that our section kicks brass!!! It really just depends on the people who play the instruments, you could hear one band and be like "OMG they have the best frickin' sax section ever!" and you could go to another band and say "Why don't all of their players just do fall in a ditch?"
You also can't blame the band members, you also have to take into account the director, for what is a band without a great director? If the director doesn't push for the people to get better, how will the band sound? Because of my director this year I have had a significant improvement in my playing.
So don't blame the instruments, blame the people and their ability (or lack of it).
