Oh. Oh. Oh! There was another nerve, he's struck gold again and once again she was reacting with hostility but it was different than the last time. Now she was stomping, pouting and had even gone so far as to show off her rump. He might have been young but even he could appreciate a female form and as she 'shunned' him, he couldn't help but muse over the shame of her rump for a few moments before nodding appreciatively and pursing his lips. She certainly wasn't bad for someone who crept about for fear of shattering the egg shells around her hooves. Nevertheless as she did make a 'final' dig regarding his behaviour and her preference to being attacked by twenty as opposed to just one made him grimace.

Now more aware than ever that she possessed more hot air than genuine threat, he sauntered towards the mare and leant down lightly so his nose was against her ear. "Be careful what you wish for," he murmured softly, "I sincerely doubt that twenty is more desirable than one, when they would do more than spatter you with mud... Princess." Satisfied that he had made his remark he drew away again and gave a small flick of his tail against his own flank. He placed sufficient distance between the pair as he was aware of her horn and released a soft sigh.

She really was a mare hell bent on seeing only perfection, wasn't she?

"You hide behind a very thin veil, Princess," the nickname seemed appropriate and he tilted his head to the side, a mild smile appearing on his lips again. He was no longer laughing, merely bemused by the observations he had made. Whether he cared to admit it or not, the mare had stirred a somewhat protective urge in him - that bubble wasn't healthy and was dangerous. No doubt he had inherited such urges from his father but it was doing nothing for his own sensabilities.

...He should have just walked away.

Unfortunately, his legs wouldn't let him and his mind was in firm agreement. Stupid as he may have seemed he would continue to push for a little while longer. A naive hope for it took more than insistant prodding from a stranger to take that veil off but he just had to try...

"Why don't you just tell me how you really feel instead of mincing pretty words - or are you afraid I may consider what you say ugly and it will mire my opinion of you...?"

So much for assuming that he was a gentleman and could take a direct command, much less a hint. Anelisse had never been more taken abacck in her life than she was in the moment she felt Fenghuang's muzzle and husky breath at her ear, and it showed in her volatile reaction.

He had actually, honestly, INTENTIONALLY invaded her personal space and actually touched her. This was beyond the boundary of common decency, common good breeding, common ANYTHING! Having lived a relatively sheltered life with hr mother, hearing only stories of honor and beauty and keeping the family superior, she had never learned exactly what things to look out for or, for example, how it wasn't always a good idea to turn your back on a stallion. Indeed, to be completely honest she didn't know what a voyeur was, and was merely trying to prove a point with her comment. Never in her wildest dreams had she considered that he woud take it as a challenge or worse, an invitation.

The light touch and whispered words were unlike anything she'd ever felt before, and a shiver ran down her spine and her face flushed as she whirled away. Giving herself a few more feet of distance on top of the space Feng had moved to, she gave him what she felt was a suitably affronted look, ignoring her own flushed face and confused emotions. Really, stallions these days!

"I don't recall giving you permission to touch me, MISTER Fenghuang, and I'm sure that I don't know what you mean. YOUR opinion of me is nothing, after all you've done, and I'm sure I wouldn't care if you thought me a...a..." After casting about for a moment for the most undesirable creature she could think of, she completed that thought with "a toad. Besides, it's not like you seem to listen to me anyway, so I see no reason to keep indulging you and your bad behavior!"

"When it comes to stallions a lot of us don't need permission," he pointed out quietly, shaking his head to loosen the already tattered braids by the sides of his neck. She had reacted to extremes when he had touched her and rightly so, it would have come to a shock to her. Humoured her entire life and encouraged to live in her own self-created world she remained totally unaware of the dangers that lurked right at her side. Honour and beauty were only a mere fraction of what existed within these lands and Feng would have questioned her mother's intelligence if that was all that she had chosen to teach her daughter. Really, manners and beauty were all well and good but it served little purpose towards those who wished to crush, destroy or otherwise take it for themselves...

"To some you are an object - a pretty object and a vulnerable one at that. You show the makings of a good brood mare and as such they would not be adverse to pressing themselves upon you," he shrugged loosely, ensuring he kept the distance between the two. He had made his point and saw no reason in scaring her further by bridging the gap now that he had spoken so cruelly of his own gender. Really if she didn't hate stallions before she would develop a hatred and hostility for them now. It wasn't the best state of affairs to find himself in but he supposed it was better than her judging based on looks...maybe?

'All stallions are bad' - that would have been a better line to follow.

"That being said, I'm going to have to point out that you're wrong about me not listening to you; Princess," he paused again and arched a brow, continuing to observe the albeit infuriated female before him. Compared to her tense limbs, flushed face and glaring eyes he was the picture of peace and tranquility. His lips were pursed lightly, his brow had since lowered and his composure remained in good health - every limb was relaxed to an extent. He wouldn't have looked any less 'imposing' than a pretty flower at that point in time, mud covered or not.

"If I hadn't chosen to listen I wouldn't still be here," he pointed out softly and shook his head. "You just..." he sighed and glanced down at the grass beneath his hooves. "You just have no desire to see that I have the slightest inclination towards you, or interest in you. That is your choice of course, but that doesn't mean I can't hear you and take your words into consideration..."

Anelisse couldn't suppress the angry glower that shown on her face, nor could she completely hide the little signs of irritation that were provoked by every additional word to pass his lips. While he had become the picture of relaxed, contented laziness, she herself was starting to show more and more signs of agitation.

Things were not supposed to work this way. Stallions would worship from a respectful distance, mares would admit their own unworthiness to be in her company from the same distance. She would be praised and adored, admired and complimented, but ultimately RESPECTED. When she said jump, they would ask how high. THAT was the natural order of things, and it was up to her when and how things changed.

Perhaps it was a selfish mindset, and perhaps it was naive, but it was all she knew and understood. Growing up, she'd witnessed first-hand what devastation stallions could cause if they weren't kept in check, and she'd done all that she could to try and make up for that fact. Originally born one of three children, Anelisse had been the only one that had been permitted to stay with Angelique; though delighting in her lookalike daughter and her behavior, Angelique had never been able to 'dismiss' the two colts from her mind; Anelisse had tried to make up for their absence by being the best, the most beautiful, the most attentive and understanding and obedient daughter ever. Every word, every thought, every random idea that Angelique had ever spouted had become gospel to her daughter, along with every praise. For Anelisse to be less than perfect meant that Angelique would be wrong, and that was just not possible.

Having such a single-minded way of looking at things served her well enough on her own or when she was with those who would, for whatever reason, indulge her, but this...this was something totally new. It threatened the natural order and all that was good, and even worse, he didn't seem to care! Didn't care what he was suggesting, or who he was belittling, didn't care what authority he was daring to contradict.

It would have been a great deal easier for her if he'd been less complimentary. The good mixed in with the criticisms left her wary and confused, because by noticing such things he was proving that he wasn't completely deranged or stupid. At the same time, it made everything else he did so much more...more...

"Insufferable, that's what you are. You are a completely insufferable stallion!" The explosive force with which the words shot out bore testament to the fact that 'insufferable' was an epithet of the most vile sort. "And don't try to rationalize this by saying that I'm the one being blind. An important part of listening is acknowledging and respecting what is being said, none of which is registering with you at all! I've asked you very kindly to leave us alone and go away, yet you persist in...not! I have to say, if you WERE to be interested or inclined, you're doing yourself no favors; handsome or not, you are proving a MOST undesirable acquaintance."

Brood mare, indeed! She DID have perfect genes and would be an amazing asset to any family line, but to put it so crassly! Insufferable.

The natural order of the world as seen by Anelisse was definitely unique - completely against 'truth' as one such as he had been witness to. She lived in a world where she was a queen, embraced by all as though they were born to grovel at her hooves. Unfortunately this world didn't extend beyond her bubble and as such, these expectations had not been placed upon the stallion and nor would he adhere to them should she demand it. Respect was something that one was meant to work for, to achieve through friendship, acts of kindness or through demonstrating other desirable quirks. It was not to be demanded or acquired through fear... While she may have desired respect from Feng she received it in only the most minimal amounts. He respected her for her gender, as a stranger and treated her in a manner that was appropriate but this didn't mean he worshipped her.

He couldn't worship someone who was so detatched from the world. He could admire her beauty, could be drawn towards her from a purely protective aspect but he simply couldn't bow. She was a beautiful creature, dazzled the eyes and yet the opinions and expectations she had were terribly unrealistic. It was no wonder she lived a life of solitude, accompanied only by the most loyal of companions...a single raccoon. The fates had favoured her enough to hide her and to keep her safe from the less desirable of the realm and yet today he had been granted permission to see her. It led him to question whether or not this had been on purpose and if his mother's warnings regarding the meddling of the spirits had been correct.

His mother was usually right...

He released a sigh as the mare proceeded to rant at him further and while his ears may have swivelled and flicked in accordance with each phrase she uttered, he had long since come to the conclusion that he had been bewitched. It was through no fault of her own, he could place the blame squarely on the shoulders of his own family for the hero complex but now that he was aware] of this vulnerability it felt as though it would be a crime to leave her to her own devices again. Christ if someone had followed him and now knew!

"Urgh," he murmured softly, the grunt scarcely audible as he shook the thoughts from his head and attempted to dismiss the obligation he now felt towards the disgruntled mare. He wasn't a knight, he wasn't a bodyguard and he wasn't a damn pet - if she wanted to be lonely and live in her own world then who was he to stop her? Hell, they said the fates worked in mysterious ways and if she was only able to open her eyes after getting hurt then why couldn't he leave it be!

...Because it was just wrong, that's why.

Nevertheless no sooner had he tuned in once more than she expressed her absolute disgust towards him and he grimaced briefly. His ears flicked back, flat against the top of his head as he recovered his composure. He chose to remain silent though, pursing his lips more thinly as he shifted his weight from one hoof to the other until she did eventually come to a conclusion.

"I have no intention of telling you that you're blind, that would be pointless," he defended himself quietly even though he still regarded it at the truth. There was no point in arguing, he suspect the mare could argue that black was white in her world if she really put her mind to it and he wasn't one who enjoyed headaches. "As I said before I have taken what you said into consideration otherwise I would have left by now, I thought there was something a little more to you than simple beauty," he cleared his throat and offered a wry, if uncomfortable smile.

"Guess even my instincts are wrong sometimes heh, if you really want me to leave then I will, Princess." He cleared his throat and took a rather deep breath, pulling himself to his full height once again. As a stallion from the sloeps he was considerably taller than most and while he often slouched to make himself less imposing in social encounters - he'd been taught better than to slouch when he walked...it was bad for the back after all.

"The spirits only know just how much you truly seem to loathe my company and I only turned up because I wanted my hair back anyway," he chuckled softly and backed away slightly, still otherwise lacking in consideration towards his mud covered form. "I apologise for overstaying my welcome." He finished abruptly and gave a nod.

Despite what Fenghuang thought, there WAS a limit to how much abuse Anelisse could both take and dish out. Arguing was well and good, but having had little reason to develop debating as a skill, her arguments tended to be repetitive and she got frustrated into silence far more easily than most. Lack of proper response did nothing short of frustrate her even more, and she was pretty much at that point now.

Narrowing her eyes, she gave Feng a suitably imposing glare as he spoke his nonsense, breaking her stiff pose only to nod politely at his compliment and at his apology, belated as it was. She still had no idea what meant by half of what he was saying; after all, what did instincts have to do with anything when he was being told to go away?? First he was listening, then he was NOT listening...it was maddening, but so had been almost the entirety of this meeting.

But she could overcome. She was Anelisse, after all!

Smoothing her angry face into one more bland, she gave him a slight nod and a flick of her tail. "Rest assured, your hair will be safe in the future, if I have to hogtie Raccoon myself. Good bye, and good day, SIR." Having said that, she simply stood watching him; if nothing else, she'd learned not to turn her back on the stallion.

She hadn't listened to a word he had said, no matter how subtly he made a jibe at her she just didn't hear it. To make her understand one had to be absolutely, one hundred percent brutal in regards to how they treated her. It was a little disappointing and as she dismissed him again he afford another half smile at her behaviour and simply shook his head. Why bother conversing anymore? His voice would have gone hoarse if he continued to argue with her, dancing around each other in endless circles about absolutely nothing because she had cotton balls stuffed in her ears and couldn't hear a damn thing he was saying - she simply heard what she wanted to hear!

Shifting his weight, he turned his attention away from the mare without any further consideration and feigned ignorance to her existence from that point forward. She had dismissed him and as such he would dismiss her in a similar manner, he could be blinkered when absolutely necessary and as a result he quite literally turned his back to her. Bridging the distance between himself and the raccoon, he lowered his head and snorted briefly against her ears to indicate his close proximity. It was then that he smile, raising a brow at the otherwise quiet raccoon who had seemed quite content to let both mare and stallion duke it out while she ate her own breakfast.

"Next time you need hair, maybe try and go slower when you ask alright?" He gave her a gentle nuge and then grinned. "That way we'll all understand you - that being said, make sure you take care of yourself..." he sighed and lifted his head, murmuring something that seemed to inferr that Raccoon had substantially more patience for the mare than he had. Though the words were somewhat inaudible, raccoon should have been able to hear them by proximity alone even if they were muffled.

Satisfied with his farewell to the raccoon he then lifted himself to his full height once more and rolled his shoulders. A quick shudder of his limbs and he was ready to depart. That being said that impish part of him still egged him on to ruffle the mare's feathers just one more time, if only in a last ditch attempt to make her explode. Logic and imp duked it out for a minute or to at least before the stallion made his decision and without warning swung round and bridged the gap between himself and the mare.

Nose pressed firmly against her own, he grinned and snorted the remaining moist mud across her face before licking at her muzzle lightly. If he was going to be insufferable, he might as well finalise the deal - he really couldn't turn into anything worse than the picture she'd already painted for him!

"Someday you'll understand, Princess - and when that day comes you'll know where you can run to," He offered awink and with that, proceeded to trot towards the way in which he had come before, head held high...

For all her insane energy and wild gesticulations, Raccoon was nothing if not a practical creature. Sure, she had her obsessions; hair, shiny objects, finding hair and shiny objects...but more than anything else, she adored Anelisse, and always had. Her Mistress might occasionally be crazy, but the bond the two had was strong and Raccoon would cross the world for her.

She also knew when NOT to intervene, which is why she had contented herself with her crayfish for the duration of the 'discussion' between the two Soquilis, albeit with one ear turned that way in case things got too out of hand.

As a speechless creature, she was in little danger of blurting out observations she had meant to keep private, which meant that many of the musings of her mind were unknown to the everyone else, even Anelisse herself. And what she was thinking at the moment was very serious.

As Ane's familiar, she took her Mistress' well being very seriously, and did her best to see to it that she was well. However, there was only so much companionship that she herself could provide, and so far most of the Soquili that they had run into had been unsuitable; either driven off by Ane's personality, or just...unpleasant. But they still persisted; as Raccoon felt, it was imperative for Anelisse to have company of her own who she could talk with and who WOULDN'T hurt her or kowtow to her or otherwise be bad for her.

Consequently, she had been surprised and pleased to see Feng's determination, even while she cringed at the mud on Mistress' coat. He wasn't listening to Mistress, which was bad, but his argument wasn't without merit. By the time he came over to speak to her, she was firmly of the belief that, like it or not, he was a friend of Mistress and therefore a friend of herself; a friend with lovely hair, even!

Still, she could respect his attachment to his hair and returned his injunction with a chitter and a salute, waggling a finger at him and chittering in response to his comment that she should take care of herself with the response that he should take care of HIMSELF, cause he was fun, yup!

~~~
Anelisse watched the exchange with much less grace, though she couldn't begrudge Raccoon her little amusements (just their focuses). However, like all 'Princesses', she had limits to her patience and good nature, and those limits broke when Feng, who she'd THOUGHT she'd gotten rid of, had the audacity to touch her with his muddy muddy muzzle. Lick her, even!
Crimsoning, she watched as he turned and walked away, too upset for words or arguments of any sort.
Well, almost.
"INSUFFERABLE STALLION!"
