hollow of Hawk

PostPosted: Wed Dec 31, 2008 5:38 pm

Hawk instantly pulled out a device that snapped open and a bright beam of light came out, engulfing the plant. The device acted like a tractor-beam and suddenly the plant was gone and the glowing light sealed back up within the device. Hawk pladed it back in his pockets, planning on studying it later. He then looked back at Datenshi, who was trying her hardest to hurt his hierro by squeezing it like she was. He smiled..
Suddenly Hawk's right hand slammed through the glass helmet she had on, shattering it to pieces as his hand wrapped around her little face. Her head was driven into the table, slamming the steel into a warped indenture of Datenshi's skull.

All in one quick movement Hawk performed a strike that broke through his faceplate and hit her so hard her face was put nearly all teh way through the examination table. Hawk then lifted up, smacking Datenshi's hand away easily, as he looked down to her. "Did you see what just happened?" he asked.
He did not expect her to answer right away, so he took the time to dust himself off, mumbling about impatience. He then looked to Ezru,
"You don't get this do you? I am arrancar, we have no fear of you shinigami, it goes the other way. What you do with the realization, makes you more of a variable, then a distraction." he explained to him.

Hawk then turned his attention back to Datenshi... She was not hurt too badly, and would most likely hate him now, but those were irrelevant feelings. She was strong, but she was only something that could be used right, only if it were done properly. Anyways, Hawk was contemplating if he should threaten her further after her last display, but felt that damage had been done. All he wanted was for her to acknowledge what Hawk could do, for her to know what he was capable of.
"I ask you to sit still, or else I will have Ezru physically restrain you Datenshi, do not test my patience again." he said, turning to Ezru again.
"Or should I just eliminate the chance?" he asked.

Hawk walked over to his control panels again, and began pressing buttons... Since Datenshi's limp body was still where the bounds held them, minus one, he could rebound her again. Then, out of the ground and table there came white-bondings, covering and replacing the ones that were there from before. A new screen appeared on a white-helmet on Datenshi's head. It displayed the glowing text again, and Datenshi's arms and legs were firmly held in place again.

"Hawk... Next time there is restraining to be done, leave it to me. I will make it so she is unable to move because of the reiatsu dampening effects of my trees..." Ezru sighed as he released energy, enough to cover everything around him, and would linger for months. "I can't allow anyone to gather the information used in my trees, my shrubs, or my flowers. They are my own little secret. If you were to study nature for your entire life, then I would allow you the secret."

There was a cut on Datenshi's cheek that bled lightly. A piece of glass must have been ground into her skin when Hawk shattered the apparatus over her head. She could feel little scratches all over the skin of her face and neck, product of the same maneuver.

Her head was ringing, too, and the point at which is struck the table was throbbing painfully. With so many vibrations bouncing around her skull, she couldn't decipher enough to be aware of her surroundings. For a few moments, she was well and truly blind. Her neck felt weak, whiplashed, and she let her head fall to one side.

Datenshi laughed, though. She half-heartedly tested the new bindings, already knowing she wouldn't be able to break free again.
"Scared you, there, didn't I?" She teased, deaf to Hawk's threats. "We aren't weak,"

"Hawk, please... Just conclude your tests." Erzu said "I need Kurai for the delivery..."

The light above was bright, illuminating Kurai's skin to where it looked as if it were glowing, but suddenly the cieling above it opened, and mechanical devices came out, and all positioned themselves in a formation around Kuraime's body. The deviced commensed to scanning her, and seconds later a small mechanical arm came down, with a needle attached to it. The needle injected Datenshi at the neck, and she suddenly went limp, her white eyes remaining open as she did not notice any difference in them. The green lights scanned over her body in every angle imaginable, as a seeparate light individually scanned over her cranial area.
The table under her glowed again, cut Kuraime did not react the way Datenshi had, instead there was no physical reaction to the light at all. As the machines finished their scans, another arm came down and laser-butted through Kuraime's clothes, then tracing paths down her sleeves and legs.
"I suppose I could cure the creature's eyesight, but that is not necissary at the moment and I do not feel the need to." he said briefly, before pressing more buttons.
The clothes were put on a tray, and the tray was removed by the arms, going into the upper cieling no doubt to be thuroughly analyzed as well. Another scan commensed as the green lights returned, and scanned her body. This was obviously the secondary scan which was telling the differences through Datenshi and Kuraime. In the middle of the scan, two separate mechanical arms came down and placed a paper medical gown over her. Then the light on the table initiated again, as another arm with a needle injected her in between her left index finger and middle finger's knuckle.
Neither of these had any effect on Kuraime, and she lay there still and unconsious, as Hawk performed more scans and graphed out her physical and chemical map.

"So... What are you going to do to her?" Ezru asked simply as he watched these tests being done, thinking about the information he could have given Hawk, if only he had asked. "You know I have her complete medical files from the Valley, correct?"

"I will be making a trip to the Black Air when we are finished anyhow, Ezru." Hawk told him, fidgeting withthe controls again.
The arms stopped scanning Kuri, and Hawk walked over to her, sticking yet another needle into her, He reached with his hand and brushed Kuraime's hair out of her face. Her face looked peaceful again, and it was like an angel sleeping below him.
"Putrid being... I ask you to sleep Datenshi, the time will come for your rise, again." he muttered.
"Now, Ezru I would like for you to wake the shinigami up, and assure her that she will be fine. I would rather not have this task, my preference is just to work the equipment."

With that, Hawk left the room, for Ezru to wake the girl up... He would return and let her out of her restraints later...

Ezru nodded as he walked over to Kurai. He gently placed his hand on her shoulder and shook her gently while he talked to her in a comforting voice, all the while allowing his reiatsu to wash around her, filling her with warmth. "Kurai... it's time to wake up. You need to wake up so Hawk can finish his tests, and so I can take you to become a great Aunt... Please Kurai, you need to wake up." Ezru said softly

There were murmurs in the dark. Kurai, tucked away in a remote corner of her mind, stirred. She struck for the surface of the crimson sea of poppies in which she imagined she was floating. Their heady scents threatened to pull her under, again, but she breached the surface, regaining control. Her consciousness flooded her mind, and Datenshi, strangely dutiful for once, retired to the shadows.

Not murmurs, Kurai decided. A voice. Her thoughts were fuzzy. Drugged. But, she forced her leaden eyelids open. No sight greeted her, but now, at least, she was sure she was awake.

Someone's hand was on her shoulder, shaking her gently. His aura was familiar in the strangest way. An inexplicable thread of panic and betrayal shot through her, and she flinched away from the gentle hand, apprehension registering in her blind eyes.

The movement alerted her to her restraints. She tried to move her arms, but they were bolted to the table, as were her legs. Panic bloomed in her chest, and she tugged at her shackles. "What's going on?" She asked, choking on her fear. "Where am I? What-- ... I don't..."

She trailed off, frightened. She had no memory of this room. I don't remember. Try as she might, she could not fill that gap in her mind. It scared her, as did the feeling of betrayal that, again, flashed through her.

"Kurai, please, be calm. It's me Ezru, your nephew." Ezru said knowing that she would be disoriented "I know why you don't remember, and I know it is annoying, but your alternate self, Datenshi took over..." Ezru continued in a soft voice "I'm a researcher in Hawk's lab, where you are currently. He is performing experiments on you to figure out how your sight works."

Ezru paused for a moment as he tried to explain his position "Kurai... I've defected from the Seireitei. I'm an outlaw by my own choice, and I'm sorry that I have to watch by and do nothing while you are essentially tortured, but I am trying to make everything more comfortable to you and the other prisoners..." Ezru felt tears stain his cheeks red "I'm sorry Auntie Kurai..."

A Hell Butterfly drifted in and landed on Ezru's shoulder as he straightened up and wiped the few tears as he breathed in deep to get rid of the red tracks on his cheeks "Hawk-han, Aizen-sama has just summoned me. I must leave now. Good day." Ezru said as he took one more sad look at Kurai as he swept through the room, running his fastest in order to get to the meeting hall promptly.

It was disorienting, the notion that she'd been... Well, where had she been? Somehow Datenshi had taken control, but Kurai had no memory of the transition. And tortured? Why couldn't she remember? It was frightening being unable to recall when harm had been done to her. Ezru's words did little to assuage the panic.

She also hadn't been aware that she had a nephew, but this man seemed to believe it. He kept calling her "auntie." It made her feel old, but that was the least of her concern. Her body wouldn't let her trust this Ezru. Something about him made her want to strain away. It must have been something Datenshi had experienced.

Still, Kurai tried her best to accept her situation. She'd almost gotten comfortable with Ezru's kindness when he straightened up, declaring he had to leave.

"Wait, don't--" He disappeared. "Go,"

She was trapped and alone, securely bound to the operating table. Would this Hawk come back? What if he performed more tests on her? What if he tortured her?

[a short time after Ezru left, Hawk returned to the room]

"Kuraime, I presume." Hawk said, pursing his lips.
He did that often under his mask, snickering and smirking of his own allowance. He now resembled Snape, giving little Kuraime a contradicting look while he walked towards her. His hands were in his pocket, and for some reason his reiatsu was raised to the point that it brought an eerie ringing to the ears of the blind shingiami.
"I want you to know, shinigami, that I have no compassion for you and do not care about how afraid you may be." he told her.
Hawk just finished the scentence as he reached the edge of the table that Kurai was strapped to. Other than the slight distortion from the reiatsu, it was extremely quiet in the room, and every time Hawk spoke to her, it sounded like he was revealing a secret.
"I know you are afraid, and even though I am uncapable of feeling that particular emotion, let alone acknowledging it, I still know what you are going through. I want to let you know, shinigami that you are less than me, and even less than yourself... so do not feel shame in this fear, because it is simply just what you are, and the way you were made. Fragile, weak and completely useless; just like the rest of your kind..."
He looked down at her, his eyllow eyes mocking her creamy white ones.
"Tell me, do you wish to return to your cell now?" he asked.

Agonizing over it won't help... Kurai chided herself. Taking a breath, she imagined gathering all her worries into a ball and compacting it until it was no bigger than her fist. She imagined drop-kicking them into the deeper recesses of her psyche. Strangely enough, her chest felt lighter after that. She grinned crookedly at her small triumph, though she knew it was only a temporary solution.

It still bothered her that she didn't remember being torutured. It made her think that perhaps she was going insane, like little pieces of her were slipping away. Theoretically, the gap in her memory was Datenshi's doing, but shouldn't she have felt it when Hawk hurt her? Her throat was raw. Shouldn't she have remembered screaming?

Dwelling on it wouldn't help matters. I survived, and that's what matters--surviving. It's all I've ever done. Hadn't the Maggot's Nest been worse? And she'd been nearly defenseless then, alone in the dark.

She was reminded of Datenshi, and, by instinct, she reached for her. She hesitated for a moment, realizing what she was doing, but she trusted her instincts. Strange, though, when she felt for Datenshi, she didn't feel the usual presence of the poppy flowers, nor did she encounter Datenshi's customary cage. Instead, there was a thin membrane that stretched across a corner of her mind. All she had to do was push through it.

Datenshi waits on the other side, pacing behind her half-assed barrier. She had fallen back after Hawk had knocked her out, exhausted by the effort of keeping Kurai's psyche intact while she endured the torture. She puts up no resistance as Kurai enters.

In fact, as the flimsy wall breaks, Datenshi's legs give way, and she sits down hard. Being active for so long really takes it out of her.

Kurai kneels down beside her, placing steadying hands on her upper arms. Datenshi leans forwards, resting her head on Kurai's shoulder. The beast seems tamed for now. Or just tired to the point of dropping.

"I'm tired, little Princess," She says, eyes closed.

"I'm sure it's exhausting acting all bad-a** all the time," Kurai teases, but she doesn't move away.

"I wish Yoruichi was here," Datenshi confesses. Fatigue makes her less guarded. Kurai stiffens with emotions she can't name. "Then I'd know you--our body wouldn't be hurt,"

"... I should stronger," Kurai says after a minute. She can't tell if she's angry with Datenshi for bringing her sister up. It's like salting an old wound. "I should have been able to defend myself against the arrancar and keep my panic from crippling me,"

"You're stronger already, you know," Datenshi says, remembering to add a grudging edge to her tone. "You aren't shutting down, even though you're restrained and confined. You're finding ways to manage your fear,"

"I don't know if I'd survive torture," Kurai says, tentatively slipping her arms around Datenshi. Datenshi shifts to curl up against her. She's half asleep. "I don't like needing you,"

"I'm not fond of you, either," Datenshi adds half-hearted malice. She's never been held by anyone. It's restful, hypnotic. "But, unfortunately, we have to find some compromise. You need my strength, and I need your... level-headedness..."

"To be clear, I don't trust you," Kurai says with a coldness she knows she doesn't feel. Datenshi--the monster-- seems so helpless at this moment. "When this is over, you'll still be my enemy. But this has to end, first. We have to get out--,"

"We have to be free to survive," Datenshi says quietly. "But, I need to rest, first. Using your body makes me tired..."

Kurai knows she could use some peace, too. She needs to set her mind in order. It feels all jumbled since Datenshi's been messing with it. At least she's not falling any farther down. Although, it's a bit disconcerting to be talking to yourself. Even internally.

"Don't go, ok?" Datenshi murmurs. Kurai thinks perhaps she's already asleep and it's just a dream.

She wants to stay, but Hawk's back. She can feel him. "I can't," She whispers and lowers Datenshi to the ground.

[oops ooops... edit... assume everything above occurs before Hawk returns ><]

"Ah, the arrancar returns," Kurai said drily. She didn't seem afraid at all, as though her fear was controlled. Latent, but hardly debilitating. "Come to gloat? I'm sure you're bold when I'm restrained. Are you sure I'm the fearful one? Or is it you? Are you afraid of us? Of me, arrancar?"

Hawk pulled out a long blade, jagged and pointed narrow at the end. It looked like some sort of medical saw, but it was double-edged and the blade seemed to reach half the width of the uitnsel. This suggested that it was made to cut precisely, splitting any object it may be thrusted into.
"No, shinigami I do not fear you or your kind. I am only in fear, of something that could possibly be worse than existance in this pitiful thing called 'life'. I long for my peace, I fear nothing; and I exist only to know.." Hawk said.

When he finished saying these words, he stuck the tip of the blade into Kurai's neck, just under the skin on her back-side of the neck.
He watched Kuraime's facial expression change as she registered the pain. That was the thing about him having eyes that he could see with, and her not. He could witness such things as the simple joy of one acknowedging their pain, the emotion in the facial movement. Every time someone bit their lip, or widened their eyes due to the fact that their brain finally registered the pain was like ecstacy to Hawk. Realization is the only constant that brought Hawk back to the present, and allowed him to stay ahead of the curve.

Constant realization, is the key to everything. "I assume you are wondering when I will cease? When you may be, spared?"
Hawk sneered under his mask as he pushed the blade an inch further in. His mind transferred to the attempt being made to save these poor shinigami by the sereitei. They had no doubt already made it halfway to Las Noches. He enjoyed the thought of them meeting his many test subjects he had released back into Hueco Mundo. Namely the Vasto Lorde he had left in charge in the Menos Forest, and the numerous adjucha he released before going to the Soul Society to retrieve his test subjects in the frist place.

"If you are under the influence that someone is coming to your rescue, you are mistaken. You will get used to your fear, and endure it." Hawk said.
"Since you think you are worthy of being feared girl, then please do not allow yourself to become just another of my subjects to die there on my table."
Hawk jammed the blade through, as it slit her skin and pierced gracefully through the other side. She now had two 7-inch slices going up both sides of her neck. The long jagged blade shone brightly under the overhead light. The crome metal was reflecting on the ceiling, both red and white lighting traces from the blood.

The saw-looking tool then began to glow, a blueish tint. It was a faint glow, and it seemed to interact with Kuraime somehow because the helmet-screed began to rapidly display many things in the text glowing on it. Hawk then walked to the foot of the table, placing his gloved hands on Kurai's bare legs, looking at her face, to see if she looked down towards him or not.
"You are alright, I assume?" he asked her . . .

About to reply, Kurai stiffened as she felt metal p***k her skin. He'd been so quiet about it. Barely a vibration to make the metal sing out a warning. As the cold steel brushed against her skin, it chimed softly before sinking about a half-inch into her neck.

Pain shot up the back of her neck and down her spine, and she flinched. It must have pleased Hawk, for he began to tease her softly. A knowing dread settled in the pit of Kurai's stomach. This round had only just begun.

The sickening whisper of the metal as it slid through her skin reverberated in her sensitive ears. It made her stomach turn, and the pain as her skin was split ever so precisely grew stronger. Her nose filled with the coppery smell of her own blood. Kurai locked her jaw against the scream that was building. She couldn't bear to give Hawk the satisfaction.

He touched her leg, and she jerked it as far from his reach as she could manage. "Why wouldn't I be?" She spat breathlessly in reply. The pain was mounting.
