Not necesary, but it certainly helps to have a different view of things; I mean, current modern artists are not as widely known as the classical ones, but my point is that the artists who tend to be crazy are the kind whose work have broken molds. But other great artists not only were not crazy, but rather organized and methodic, like Leonardo da Vinci, most artists from the clasical and golden ages were usually creative but not as crazy as the master creators from the last century, like Van Gogh, and the contemporary artists are not all that crazy even if they do abstract.

There is no doubt in my mind that Da Vinci was quite insane. His ideas were outrageous for his time, and he was one of the first to have dissected humans to satisfy his curiosity. You think contemporary artists are not crazy? You have not met my teacher.

He was visionaire, not crazy, not a single record describes him as crazy, as a matter of fact he was regarded as a calm and calculating guy (not that crazy guys cant be that way). I didnt say that modern artists are not crazy, and dont mix contemporary artists with modern artists, there are a vast majority of non-crazy modern artists nowadays, a very good example is my own cousin Marco Rountree (shameless publicity for him, he loves it xd) who is an internationally famous modern artist, and the scene o modern art is filled with non-crazy artists.
I am sure your teacher is both, crazy and likely a creative genious, sigh, I would have loved to have one of those around.
