Before Riyo could even realize it, she was on her butt with the half of the man she got on top of her. She blinked, looked down, then looked back up at Deacon.

"... T-that was cheating!" She shouted, a blood-covered pouty face staring up at him.

"I'm... Dripping with blood now..." She pushed what was left of the man off of her and examined herself. From head to toe. Huh. She'd never thought of decorating herself with blood.

It didn't bother her... Until she thought about what Yuki or the others might think.. Or say...

Deacon tossed aside his portion of the human like it had been nothing more than a rag doll, only briefly acknolwedging the fact that he too had bloodied himself. Though, that had not only been due to the final victim, and Riyo had ended up the worst of the two thanks to him.

Rather than offering apology for his actions, or the blood and gore said action had left her covered in, he laughed. "I never was good with games." He stepped over toward her, and offered her a hand to help her up.

"It'll dry, and I'm not too sure if any of them will register what it belongs to." By them, he referred to their fellow travelers. "Even so, if they knew the circumstances I doubt they'd have much protest..."

"I think we'll keep the most of the details between you and I, though... If you've got no objections."

Riyo graciously took his hand and pulled herself up, smirking at his sadistic, yet cheerful approach to the whole situation. "Wonder how you'd cheat at rock, paper, scissors..." She mumbled and gave a little laugh. Humor amongst a war zone. What a pair.

Sure, if they knew just the circumstances, they might understand. But if they'd seen just HOW they'd done it... She doubted they'd be so forgiving.

"No, I'd prefer it that way... Don't want to loose my happy home." And, by home, she meant this comfortable little shelter she'd found among the people who surrounded her. And, in that thought, she felt a little twinge of guilt for her actions. They'd surely be upset... If they found out just what she'd done.

"Ow.." Riyo's eyes fell on her arm, apparently where the pain had come from. "Oh, right." Quietly, she pushed her sleeve down. "Little ******** got me." It wasn't a large wound. Inch or two long. Probably not too terribly deep either. It didn't make her as mad as the fact that she now had a hole in her coat. Her finger peeked through the hole as she looked a bit disappointed. "This was the first nice thing anyone ever gave me..."

"Assuming it were a friendly game, I assure you they'd still be bleeding." He couldn't think of any other way such a game would come into play, aside from amongst people one knew well enough to joke with. At the thought of what each of the three hand gestures could equal in terms of violence brought a quiet, short laugh from him.

"What they don't know won't hurt them." He agreed, figuring that the information of this particular night would be easy to edit to their own liking. After all, they hadn't been here to witness any of it. "We can rehearse our side of the story over dinner, they'll never know any different."

He looked to her curiously with her ow, eyes settling on the hole in her sleeve. "Don't worry about it, I'm sure that if you handed it over to Hitsu, she'll have it stitched up in a minute. Things like that happen when you're out in the forest, unfortunately."

As he spoke, he knelt down to the ground and plucked a long, sharp stone from the ground at his feet, conveniently drawn up from the ground below. As though this were something completely ordinary, he began to cut into the halved man. "Any particular sections you favor more than others?" Skin was peeled away from his point of work, and he gestured toward the exposed muscle underneath.

Oh, she knew what kind of things happened in the forest. He was looking at the girl who snuck up on moose's and caught 'em from behind. Mmmmm. Moose. It had been awhile since she'd eaten one of those... Which, reminded her stomach of how hungry it was.

A soft rumble came from her direction. And, of course, he had to mention dinner. Wonder what they'd eat... Not like they didn't have their choice out in a forest, and the blood from the humans would probably attract the-

... What was he doing? She watched him pick up the rock and begin skinning their latest victim. "Y-you want to... I... I don't..." Her eyes widened at what he was insinuating. Eat... A human? She'd never thought of that!

She'd... Never thought of that. Why didn't she think of that? Wasn't like it was cannibalism. They were two different species. Her eyes turned from shocked to questioning. Something had to eat all this meat laying around. It could either be them or the scavengers. They'd killed 'em. So, rightfully...

"... Legs. I-I like the legs." She mumbled, mouth drooling slightly.

Her hesitation caused him to turn his attention to her, and he looked up to Riyo expectantly. The reality of the situation seemed to dawn on her, though quicker than even Deacon had expected. So long as she understood, no conversation on the subject seemed necessary. He only gave a single word of confirmation; "Gotcha." Then, he went to work.

The process was far from graceful, and careful was apparently not something that he had once considered. No pity to the dead, or the single one alive in his company, it was clear that Deacon was very used to cleaning his game and quickly. In less than half an hour's time he'd gathered everything he considered to be fit for edible and set it out of his way.

Way of what was soon revealed, as he stood, wiped his blood soaked hands on his trousers and with one lazy twist of his wrist the remains of their victim fell into a sinkhole that just as quickly filled itself in and smoothed over to match the surrounding terrain once more.

Riyo wasn't going to be one to just sit with her back turned while he did the dirty work. Instead, she went around the bodies like a little bird and picked off anything that might be of value. She didn't come off too bad, either. A few coin purses, a few nic nacks... That had probably been taken off other people.

Once that was done, she scooted over next to Deacon and watched him work, almost unblinking. No precision, no grace. It wasn't the body she was watching so much as it was his hands. It was quite obvious through his actions that he held no care or compassion for what these men might've been at a time, or even what they were now.

Not that it bothered her. But it did make her wonder...

And when the job was done, her curiosity got the best of her. "So..." Riyo started, resting her arms on her legs. "Do you remember the first person you killed?" Since it obviously wasn't any of these poor schmucks.

"Yes, I do." He replied, simply at first. Then, he seemed to think that it needed just a bit more clarification. "He was also a foolish human who didn't know how to pick his fights." He laughed lightly, as prone as he was to doing so in what seemed the more inappropriate points of conversation. "I wouldn't worry about that, though, he wasn't missed much. I made sure of that."

He'd carried the meat of the first to sit near the fire. They'd have to do their best to find a way to carry what was left, he hated to see something like this go to waste. He was uncertain on just what condition the man Riyo had killed was in, and he'd buried one of them. So, only three would actually be bothered with. "Mind giving me one of their shirts? We'll tie up the extra in it, if it'll fit." Apparently, the thought of just how filthy the garment might be didn't phase him. Deacon stepped just a few feet from their little camp and examined a sapling for its potential of providing a handful of its branches for construction of a spit.

"I see." Well, obviously she didn't. Since he wasn't going into any detail. What a shame.

"Yeah, gimme a sec." Riyo mumbled and went to fetch a shirt off of a dead man. She eyed the few remaining and decided to go with the one who looked cleanest... Not that there was much of a difference there.

"Funny. I'd never really seen a human up close until recently." As she spoke, she lifted the dead weight off the ground and proceeded to undress the torso. "I mean, I'd heard of them plenty. But my little village was so tucked away in the woods that they weren't much of a worry." She gave a soft snicker at that point. "I made up for that, though." And that was when she popped the shirt off of his limp little head. "Heeere ya go."

"It's kill or be killed, as they say..." He added, before finally selecting a branch from the tree and taking little time to break it free of the unfortunate sapling. After taking a couple more, he began the hasty construction of a spit to roast the meat over. "We'll prepare what we can before morning. If it's in small enough pieces and dry, our friends will be none the wiser..." Friend was a term he used very, very loosely. He gestured to the ground next to him when she retrieved the shirt; "Put it there."

"Yeah.." Riyo said softly in agreement to his statement. She wanted to say something eluding to her childhood predicament, but decided against it. Sure, he was interesting, but maybe they were getting a little too close...

What was that about unknowing friends? She shot him a questioning look. Would that be... Wise? Blade was a human, wasn't he?

A sigh escaped her lips as she sat the shirt down next to him. "What they don't know won't hurt them, I guess." Though, the thought of not telling them about that made her a little nervous. What was the difference between not telling them about what had happened while they were lost in comparison to what the mystery meat was? Apparently there was one in that hollow little thing she called a heart.

"I wonder if they're looking for us..." She mumbled and sat down with her trenchcoat in hand, staring at it thoughtfully.

"If they were, I'm sure they've given up by now. It's a useless effort, to try and find each other in this fog." In the end, they'd only get even more lost than they already were. To himself, Deacon couldn't help but wonder if they happened to be the only ones who'd been separated in the darkness. "Best to rest and recoup in the time we have before morning."

After several minutes, Deacon had situated a large portion of the meat over the fire to roast. "So, I believe before we were so rudely interrupted..." He began, leaning back and away from the fire to sit with one knee elevated to prop an arm upon, "You were saying something about your family?" Not so much as a whole, but he distinctly recalled something being said about her father... And her hatred toward him.

For some reason, she'd wished he'd said the opposite. But he was right. Searching blindly was a bit futile.

In the time that passed before he spoke again, Riyo just stared into the fire... She wondered if they were fairing as well as they were. Probably better, in such a big group...

Her ears perked at Deacon's voice. Family..? Oh, right. "It was nothing, really. I never met my Father. He ran off the night I was born."

A short pause. "See, he'd been hiding who he really was up 'till that time. I guess he expected everyone to shrug it off when they found out who he really was. Mother didn't know. Until I came along."

Riyo folded her legs indian style and rested her head in her hand, staring into the fire with distant eyes. "She was devastated. The future she'd planned with the man she 'loved' would never be. She didn't blame him, though."

A sigh, as if it was just a thought now. In reality, it was much more than that. But it was something she kept well hidden by now. "She blamed me. She took out all of her fury on me. Beat me. Screamed at me. Cut me. The rest of the villagers weren't much better. They hated me for bringing bad luck upon them. The children threw rocks at me, and their parents didn't see a reason to correct them..." She shrugged. "And killing me would've been too kind, I guess."

"Hmph." He grunted, once Riyo had finished speaking.

"I'd have made the lot of them regret it." He said, looking to her briefly as though waiting for her to agree or disagree. As to what he would have done, he did not elaborate. Though, he figured just as well that she'd formulate her own ideas. A smirk tugged at one corner of his lips, "But you got away from the fools, eh?" Something like that. "I say to hell with the past, you can't do a damn thing about it. The path ahead is the only thing that matters, if you keep looking behind you you're just gonna trip and end up with your face in the dirt."

He reached out to pat her firmly on one shoulder, like he seemed to think she needed some sort of reassurance.

"The world is filled with dishonest bastards, and sick sons of a bitches." Spoken like a true member of the classification. "You need to be faster, stronger and smarter than they are if you want to make it out of this s**t alive. Don't worry about what they have done to you... Just make sure they're not going to get the chance to do it again."

As Riyo listened to him speak, a smirk began to grow. She made no attempt to disagree with him. The world was filled with terrible things. And half the time, she thought she was part of it.

"I made them regret it." She started, reaching into her boot and pulling out that rusty old knife. "The night my Mother finally decided that she'd had enough. When memories weren't enough to deal with the burdens of today, that's when I did it. Just as she was about to kill me, I snapped. Ripped into her chest and pulled out her heart. You ever feel someone's heart beat in your hands? Ever feel them die as your grip gets stronger?" She paused, the smirk turning into a grin. "It's amazing."

Her fingers ran over the roughness of the blade, her fingernail picking at the rust. "That wasn't the end though. Some of the villagers heard strange noises and came over to investigate. After I got them, I just started going from hut to hut. Went ahead and killed the children first." Though, she wouldn't admit that act wasn't so much for revenge as it was for ensuring a worry-free future. Avenging the death of loved ones and whatnot.

"Then the women. A few of them even begged me to kill them after their kids were gone. Never quite understood that one. Not like you can't just get more... Saved the man in each hut for last. Unless they got in the way... A surprising number of them didn't. They just stood there and watched. Like they thought it was a bad dream..."

"I.. I could never admit to the others... How good it felt. It would make me feel guilty for something I shouldn't feel guilty about."
