Well to all those unintelligent people who thought that the Giants were a better team without Plaxico Burress, then think again. The Giants really struggled in the passing game, today against the Eagles. Tons of dropped balls, and Eli Manning losing his confidence and poise. Many said that Hixon was a sufficient replacement. All he did was drop a potential 90 yard TD pass, in which he was wide open and it went right through his grasp.

What do you mean? A side that they need him? Of course they need him, but that isn't the question. The question is what action will the Giants take, after the hearing of his criminal charges. They could end up releasing him, suspending/fining him, or doing more. As a Giants fan, I sure hope he'll be able to return to the team at some point.

Tuesday

The NFL Players Association filed a grievance on Tuesday challenging the suspension and fine given to Plaxico Burress by the New York Giants after the receiver accidentally shot himself in a nightclub more than a week ago.

The union said that the team violated the collective bargaining agreement last week when it placed Burress on the reserve-non-football injury list, suspended him for the final four games of the regular season and fined him an additional week's salary for conduct detrimental to the team.

Placing Burress on the non-football injury list will also keep him out of the playoffs. The Giants (11-2) won the NFC East title on Sunday.

Union spokesman Carl Francis said the grievance will be heard by an arbitrator after the season ends.

Under the contract that Burress signed in September, the Giants owe the Super Bowl star $1 million of his signing bonus on Wednesday. Team spokesman Pat Hanlon had no comment on either the grievance or whether the team would pay the signing bonus.

Francis said the union would consider another grievance if the Giants withheld the payment.

Agent Drew Rosenhaus did not return either an e-mail or a telephone call left by The Associated Press seeking comment.

The union filed another grievance on Burress' behalf earlier this year after the Giants suspended him for a game and fined him two weeks pay for missing a team meeting in September.

The two sides eventually agreed to cut the fine in half, saving Burress about one game's pay -- more than $200,000.

The latest action against Burress was last Tuesday, just a day after the 31-year-old was booked and arraigned on charges of criminal possession of a weapon relating to the shooting in New York on Nov. 29.

He pleaded not guilty, posted $100,000 bail and left.

The shooting was the latest run-in that Burress has had with the team since signing as a free agent in 2005. He has admitted to being fined dozens of times for violating team rules. In addition to his suspension in September, he was also fined $45,000 by the league for abusing an official and throwing a ball into the stands in a game against the San Francisco 49ers on Nov. 19.

Burress has not spoken about the shooting at the Latin Quarter nightclub in Manhattan, and the focus of the investigation the past week has been on the role of Giants middle linebacker Antonio Pierce.

After making authorities wait almost a week, Pierce talked to investigators on Friday about the shooting. Neither Pierce's attorney nor the police would reveal what was said.

Authorities are interested in why neither Pierce, who drove Burress to New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center, nor Dr. Josyann Abisaab, the doctor who treated the receiver, called police to report the shooting.

Abisaab has since been suspended for not reporting the gunshot injury, as required by law.

Police said that she is supposed to speak with authorities this week, but both the police and the district attorney's office refused to comment Tuesday when asked when the meeting would take place.

Burress was shot when he fumbled with the glass in his hand and the .40-caliber Glock that he was carrying in his pants slipped down his leg. The man who caught the go-ahead touchdown pass in the Super Bowl then reached for it and accidentally pulled the trigger and shot himself.

He faces a felony weapons possession charge that requires a mandatory minimum 3½ years in prison.

Saturday

Giants receiver Plaxico Burress attended a charity fundraiser for the homeless at a New York City nightclub two weeks after accidentally shooting himself in the right thigh.

Burress arrived at Kevin Powell's 8th Annual Holiday Party and Clothing Drive at the Madison nightclub around 8:45 p.m. on Friday with his wife, Tiffany, and son, Elijah.

The suspended Super Bowl hero refused to discuss the Nov. 29 shooting at the Latin Quarter nightclub that led to criminal possession of a weapon charges and his suspension for the rest of the regular season and the playoffs for conduct detrimental to the team.

"I'm just here to support this event, it's a great event, and I thought it'd be a great chance to get my wife out, and my son out, and support such a great event where it helps kids, homeless kids," Burress said in a transcript provided by WNBC-TV of New York City. "This is a wonderful thing for us to come out and be able to help people and we can lend a helping hand. I have a child, I have a son, I couldn't imagine him being in that situation, so that's why I brought him also."

Burress talked about the event when asked if he was remorseful in the wake of the shooting or was thinking about his teammates.

Benjamin Brafman, Burress' attorney, did not immediately return a telephone call by The Associated Press seeking comment on his client's appearance, which is believed to be his first since being arraigned on illegal gun possession charges on Dec. 1.

Burress shot himself at the Latin Quarter when he accidentally pulled the trigger on the .40-caliber Glock that was in his pants after fumbling a drink.

Teammate Antonio Pierce took the 31-year-old who caught the game-winning pass in the Super Bowl to New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center for treatment.

The hospital suspended the doctor who treated Burress for failing to report the shooting to police.

Pierce, the Giants middle linebacker, also was questioned by police a week after the shooting for failing to report the incident, and his decision to bring the gun back to New Jersey after leaving the hospital.

Police say Pierce gave the gun to Burress' wife after returning home.

Burress pleaded not guilty and was released on $100,000 bail. He is due back in court March 31.

Tuesday 12/23

A small cache of weapons and ammunition, plus the pants and sneakers that Plaxico Burress wore when he accidentally shot himself last month, have been seized from the home of the New York Giants receiver, police said Wednesday.

A 9-mm handgun, a rifle and ammunition, including a clip for a .45 gun, were taken from Burress' home in Totowa, N.J., by authorities executing a search warrant Tuesday evening, police said.

Investigators are trying to determine whether the weapons are registered, so it is unclear whether Burress will face additional charges.

Burress was charged with two felony gun-possession charges following the accidental shooting at a Manhattan nightclub last month.

Benjamin Brafman, the receiver's criminal attorney, said Wednesday morning he believed that only a registered rifle was taken from the home. He did not know whether Burress would face additional charges.

"We have not had a chance to review this new information," Brafman said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press on Wednesday morning. "When we do, we will have additional comment."

Burress was not at home during the search by Totowa police, the NYPD and officials from the Manhattan district attorney's office. His wife was there, police said. Brafman said his client was out of town but did not elaborate.

The New York Post reported that authorities discovered a suitcase full of money, but police said that was unsubstantiated.

Burress accidentally shot himself in the right thigh at the Latin Quarter nightclub on Nov. 29 when he fumbled with an unlicensed handgun tucked into the waistband of his sweat pants. He checked himself into New York-Cornell Hospital and later turned himself in to police.

The Giants suspended Burress for the rest of the season and also withheld $1 million owed to him as part of his signing bonus.

Burress is due back in court March 31 and faces up to 3½ years in prison on each count.

Burress also was sued last week in Florida's Broward County Circuit Court for rear-ending a woman in May while driving his Mercedes-Benz, worth nearly $140,000.

According to a document provided by the woman's attorney, his car insurance had lapsed three days before the crash. A letter from the insurance company Allstate says Burress neglected to pay his premiums.
