"Ugh, I think I just might throw it out," he said to Nataya, making a mild sort of disgusted face at the thought of his collage. "I'm glad that your project is-- Huh? No, I'm not-" He waved his hands in front of him busily, looking quite alarmed. Not only was he not an angle, he also wasn't an angel, and he hated that Christmas carol anyway. What was a mon ami anyway?
With a firm shake of his head, he recovered what little poise he had and gravely informed Zemel (it was Zemel, right? Not Ginger?), "I'm not an angel. Um, I think I'm just a kid."

"Just messing with you," said Casca tranquilly to Carlisle, "if I have to hear another carol I think I'm actually going to kill myself."

Nataya glanced back to Carlisle, blinking. "Why would you throw it out? You've worked hard on it, haven't you?" she asked, confused. She fell silent, watching her little brother ask his question.
"But you have hallow." Zemel said, pointing to the red-glowy thing that floated above the "angel's" head. That had to make him an angel, right? "You sure you just kid?" He looked up at the older child, curious.
Ginger grinned, clapping her hands together rapidly. She was getting hot chocolate. "I help get?" she asked, looking up at the older boys. If they were giving her hot chocolate, the least she could do was help carry it.

Joshua smiled at Nattie. He heard Ginger's comment and his eyes widened. "They hop 'round? I have kitty. She meows! Don't hop though. Daddy says she meows loud! But she don't. Bunnies don't meow. Are they good pets? Mommy likes pets."
He looked at her wings for a moment. "Are you a firy? You got wings like firies! Mommy told me about the land of the dollies and a sugar plum firy."

Ignacio rewarded Ginger's offer with a huge smile and he reached out to tweak her nose before bouncing back to his feet. "Cool. You look strong and brave," he informed her. "I mean, we've gotta go to the North Pole, right?" He sent a sidelong wink to the adults and Antony, teasing and amused at his own joke. "And thanks, Shade, but you don't have to. Dad was pretty generous. He's been getting a lot of work. Something about freaking college kids and finals, he said. I dunno."
He dug his hands into the pockets of his open coat. "So is that everyone who wants?"

"We'll get a few extras, just in case," Antony said. "If anything, we'll hand it to people passing by." He had no idea that Casca now thought he was gay. If he had, it would have irritated him and he might have said something scathing.
But he was in a good mood now that his best friend was there.
"Well since we're all here," Shade said. "Should we walk together?"

Thank God. "Oh. I knew that," he said, looking down at Zemel. Well... He actually hadn't. But you know. "Yeah, I'm sure, and what do you mean, hallow?" Looking at Casca, he said more quietly, "Is something getting lost between what he's saying and what I'm hearing, or something?"
Carlisle looked back for Sugita. "Sure, I'd go," he said, seeing that she wasn't too far behind now.

Ginger grinned, giggling. Of course she was strong and brave; she was an acrobat, after all! "Yup! A-ll the way to there!" she said, grinning. She then paused, nodding. "Ev-ie-one help." she agreed.
Zemel held his fingers in a make-shift circle above his head, demonstrating what he meant. "Hallow." he repeated, moving his hands a little for emphasis. Didn't the older boy know what a halo was? He had one, after all!
Nataya smiled, nodding. "Yes, they hop around. How else would they get around?" she said gently, kneeling down to the boy's level so he didn't have to look up. "They make good pets. And yes, I'm a fairy." She blinked at what he said. Dollies...? Sugar plum fairy...? She'd never heard of that story.

"Walking!" Joshua supplied quickly. He had already decided that he wanted one of these dustbunnies, and was going to ask his Mommy for one. "I'm gonna ask mommy for a dustbunny!" He told the older girl.
"You don't know about the sugar plum firy?" Joshua asked, frowning. "Your mommy didn't tell you?" He was confused, weren't mommies supposed to tell stories? That was the rule! Then he decided he'd tell it to her.
"There was a nutclacker, and..." He continued with the story, telling Nattie about how the nutcracker and the fairy went to the park to play. But all of a sudden a giant rat came and tried to eat the poor nutcracker. So the fairy saved him.

Nataya giggled, amused by the little boy's enthusiasm. "Well, you ask her, and I'll see what I can do." she said, her tone cheerful. She then shook her head. "No, my momma didn't tell me...but she's told me plenty of other stories." She listened to the little boys story, nodding at the appropriate times. It was a bit hard to follow, but she understood the story overall.

After his story, the boy was rather pleased with himself. "And you're the fairy and I'm the nutclacker!" He finished.
Joshua spotted his mother getting hot chocolate. "Mommy!" He raced to her. "Nattie says I can have a dustbunny! Can I? Can I? Peas?" He pulled her over to Nattie before she could anwser. "Mommy says yes!" He told his new friend.

"Okay." Nataya said, smiling, completely not getting what the boy was hinting at. After all, she was a fairy, and he certainly looked like a nutcracker..
She smiled, then leaned in to whisper to the boy. "When there's less people around, okay? We wouldn't want the bunny to get spooked, would we?" she said, pulling back and pressing a finger to her smiling lips.

Joshua hadn't thought of that. "Don't like too manies people either. They scary." He said, agreeing. The bunny sounded like him. He liked that. "Bunnies shy?" He asked. "Kitties too, but kitties like me."
Thali nodded at him. Joshua seemed to be good with animals. "Bunnies are afraid of loud noises too," she told him.

"Alright then." Automatically, Iggy held out a hand to Ginger; it was something that had been drilled into him at the daycare center by Evan. The little kids had to hold hands if they were tramping any kind of distance. "The train's heading out." He glanced over his shoulder to check everyone else's placement and attention. "I think I saw some benches there so we can sit down," he murmured to Shade and Antony. "No messes."
Then he raised his voice and grinned whitely. "Okay so fairies and gingerbread kids and tin soldiers and angels and all, off we go!" Adjusting his pace to match smaller legs, he set off.

"There goes a boy," said Mia dreamily, "who will either turn into a gay man, or a sex offender."
Before Casca could melt into a dribble of embarrassment, she followed after; apparently she needed hot chocolate as well, or something. He attempted to look as though he wasn't humiliated simply by her existence, but it failed a little; his eyes had briefly glown a bright, blue-hot white colour, fading immediately afterwards.
"Don't worry about her," he assured Carlisle inanely, "she's on more hormones than a Chinese panda."
