Kane's body felt weird again. He wanted to reach out and see how soft her hair really was. It looked like silk...but did it feel like silk? "You have beautiful hair."

She blushed softly.
"Thank you..."
She thought he was handsome, but wasn't willing to admit that yet.
"Should we get moving?"

"I did not mean to embarrass you...only to compliment you..." Kane stood up and offered her his good hoof. "We should, yes. The more we move around, the harder it will be for Merari to find us."

"In that case, we should try for my home. There'll be plenty to help guard."
She smiled and took his hoof, rising with his help.

He smiled again. "If we meet her while on the move, you should run straight to your family. Hopefully I can keep her at bay long enough for you to get to safety."

She agreed and was already starting to move, careful to keep watch around her.

Kane looked calm on the outside, but he was watching and listening for anything out of the ordinary. "I would like to stay with you for a little while after you make it back to your family." He sighed nervously, "I want to make sure you'll be safe before I leave."

Kane followed close behind Rosette, trying to pay attention to his surroundings for any clues that might indicate Merari was around. For some strange reason, he kept getting distracted by Rosette. Her body moved so gracefully and rythmicly that he had a hard time concentrating on anything else. He shook his head and looked away, ashamed to be thinking of her in such a way.
Merari smiled from the cover of the trees. Kane was losing his touch if she could get that close without him realizing it. She moved ahead and tied a wrapping to one tree, stretching it across the path. When they got closer, she would pull it tight and hopefully "trip" up their progress.

Since Rosette led the way, she knew how to get to her place. She casually walked onward, stepping over the wrap without even seeing it.
"Do you have a favorite food?" She asked casually.

Merari cursed as her wrap missed its intended target.
"I do. I love Kung Po Chicken. What about yourself?" At this point, Kane was almost up to Merari's wrapping. If he took just one more step...BAM! Kane went down hard. Merari didn't miss a beat and began throwing more wrappings out binding his back legs together.
"Run, Rosette!" Kane hollered, hoping she would remember what she promised. Kane began fighting against the wraps, using one of the claws on his wings to tear them off his legs. He gracelessly got up, swinging and fighting to get some sort of hit in on that damned mummy.

Rosette fled like she promised, not missing a beat as she moved past trees. She raced for the home she was staying at with her father and aunts and uncles. When she could look back, Kane wasn't visible, neither was Merari.
Tears blurred her vision then before she tripped over one of the children's toys and stumbled.

Kane backed Merari into a tree and began pounding into her with his fists. "Why are you after Rosette?"
Merari's nose began to bleed, but she refused to answer. Another hard punch and she hissed at him. "Because the child was happy. She has a loving family, friends," Merari grinned as she said the last part, "And even a loving, handsome protector."
Kane wrapped his hoof around her neck. "It would be in your best interest to never try to hurt her agian. Am I clear?" He began to squeeze her windpipe shut, tighter and tighter until she nodded her understanding. Kane easily threw her aside, tangling her up in her own wrappings before running after Rosette.
Lost and limping, Kane sat down next to a tree. He looked up at the sky and took a deep breath. He hated to ask for help, but right now, he really needed it. "Rosette!" Kane yelled into the silence over and over again, hoping that she would hear him and not Merari.

Rosette sat where she'd tumbled to and tried forcing back to tears that threatened to spill. Her uncle came out the house after hearing one of the toys break.
Lance arched his brow as he walked towards her. "Rosette?" When she turned her attention to her, he frowned. "What on earth?"
She shook her head. "Kane...he's out there...."
"Who the hell is Kane?"

Kane, after about fifteen minutes of yelling, stood up and limped a little further. Rosette hadn't heard him, or she had heard him and didn't come back. The second thought stung almost as much as his wounds did. He shook his head and refused to think like that. "She's not like the others...She would have come back if she had heard me..." He tripped over a rock in the dark, busting his chin open on antoher when he fell. "Rosette..."
