"Oh!" she said. "They're tougher," she told him proudly. "Mama says they're protecting me. Like the fur does," she said with a knowing smile. "Which is good cuz I fall a lot."

Iggy laughed at that but the reaction was not at all unkind and he smiled ear to ear. "Me, too," he offered. "I'm just lucky the bruises never show, Dad says, or people would think he beats me. I think I just go too fast and can't stop properly so I just kinda... Fall over." He winked. "What's your excuse?"

"Luck," she said promptly, then stopped, a hint of confusion in her eyes. Why had she said that? Why did it feel as if she knew it all the way to her bones?
Oh well, she was probably right. She jerked as the bell rang. "I gotta go," she said. "Thank you, Iggy!"

"No problem, Kashy!" He leaned over to peek at the sketches and then looked back up to grin at her. "I wanna see them when you're all done, okay? Don't let the teacher take 'em." Iggy sat back again and made a vague motion that resembled a wave; he was already back to his food. "Be careful walkin', okay? I'll see you around!"
Then, with his little artist gone, Ignacio focused once more on filling his bottomless stomach.
