And to the Golden World. They will return, eventually, somehow, ... they will return.
Setsushi tries to make his assertions firm, but there is the faintest hint of weakness in them.
But why Karya-- nevermind that. They need to obtain some reliable clues before they begin planning any sort of departure. And before that, Kouyo has to rest and recover, and eat lots of food~
... These pan-cakes don't look so hard to make, really. Setsushi is sure he could figure out the recipe... and then perhaps he can add that to Kouyo's breakfast menu?

The High Priest is... not entirely sure he wants to go back to the Golden World. How much time would pass in the Golden World before they found a way? What if it was still within Kouyo's lifetime when he returned, and everyone tried to put him back into his birdcage? What if no time passes at all while they are here, and this leaf finishes falling to its death immediately upon returning?
Distracted by his worries, Kouyo stops eating and stares off into the middle distance for a moment. His attention returns to the present when Setsushi changes the subject, though.
Oh, sure, Kouyo thinks he likes pancakes enough to eat them again. And if Setsushi makes them he will definitely at least try them. The priest himself has gotten good at making "cereal", but that is so easy that it probably does not count.

But... Isn't Kouyo's wife in the Golden World...?
... well, Kouyo doesn't have to go back there himself, it's true. Setsushi could go there for him and try to find her... when the time comes, of course.
Thinking that this is perhaps a bad topic, he purposefully brushes those thoughts away, and snags a piece of Kouyo's pancake. Hmmm... it's a little dry without the goop, but with it, it is too sweet for Setsushi... sweatdrop
Setsushi thinks they should come here again when Kouyo feels up to it. And perhaps Setsushi can invite some of his friends, gentle friends who may be able to help him and Kouyo figure these things out. Perhaps Boyan, his daughter, and her husband...
... Does the Kouyo know that this world has a Celestial Oracle, too?

Kouyo can go on his own where ever he may need to in order to find his wife, he supposes. He is the broken husband, and cannot make Setsushi take care of things in his place. It will just be... very difficult to take that first step through the portal.
The High Priest might like to meet Setsushi's friends at home, first, just because it feels safer there. He admits that he would be curious to see the Celestial Oracle here, though. Does this one also have many children? ... Might he also know something about breaking the marriage bond?

They can begin at home, perhaps, and then venture out into the world slowly.
The Celestial Oracle of Gaia has two children by the same wife. His wife has gone somewhere far away, accompanied by their son, while their daughter remains with the Oracle. It does not seem to Setsushi that their marriage bond is strained by anything other than distance, but...
If he is an Oracle, surely his Chaos will be able to remember the exploits of the infamous Oracle of Kouyo and Setsushi's own time.
Setsushi smiles awkwardly.

Nodding slowly, the High Priest picks halfheartedly at his pancake.
Distractedly, he tells Setsushi that he is welcome to the rest of his pancakes, as Kouyo is full now. Then he scoots away from the table a little, far enough back to get his heels up on the chair, and hugs his knees to his chest, clearly now lost in thought.

...Very well, Setsushi will help himself.
He tries not to look too worried as he begins stealing Kouyo's pancake pieces, several speared onto a fork at a time. Setsushi thinks privately that he must have made another mistake, brought up the wrong subject again...
Thinking that the sooner they can go to the store and take Kouyo's mind off these matters, the better, Setsushi starts putting those entire stacks of triangles in his mouth at once.

The pancakes were enjoyable. Kouyo does not want Setsushi to think that he did not like them. This leaf just never eats very much anymore. ... The pancakes feel kind of like they got bigger after he ate them, too.
And sure, Kouyo is ready to leave whenever Setsushi is finished eating. Where are they going to go shopping first?

Setsushi finishes snarfing his food, choking down the last parcel of pancakes before summoning a waiter to pay the bill, leaving a handsome tip, as he wishes customers at the udon shop would do more often. sweatdrop
...Rubbing at the pain in his chest, Setsushi proposes that they move on to a little clothing boutique nearby, if Kouyo would like to pick out a nice, big, padded jacket. Just... they have to walk slowly.

Kouyo follows silently, except for a vague worry at Setsushi's condition. Did pancakes usually do that to someone? He walks close alongside his friend again, but still seems almost afraid of touching him.
After several minutes of quiet, Kouyo realizes that this is really the first time he has been on an actual walk with Setsushi. He had always imagined that the first time they did this, the two of them would walk in a circle around the base of the tower, and then Kouyo could turn his back on it and walk straight away without looking back, and never return. It was something he had given up a while back, though, as soon as he realized his body and soul would not likely be able to leave the birdcage together.
But it was nice to finally be on a real walk.

Though he still feels a little heavy, Setsushi smiles. Perhaps it is too bad Kouyo did not get to prepare for freedom exactly as he wanted, but... now he has it. And he can walk whenever and wherever he likes, with Setsushi to protect him if he so desires.
When spring comes again, they can have a picnic under the flowering trees... Setsushi, Kouyo, and Setsushi's friends, and Kouyo's future friends.

So he has until spring to find at least one friend? No friend could ever come close to Setsushi in his mind, though. Kouyo hesitantly reaches out to rest his hand on the older Porcelain's arm.
Maybe he can try to find someone, he supposes.

Setsushi smiles, making eye contact with Kouyo to make clear his joy at Kouyo's fondness and the closeness he feels for Kouyo in return.
Perhaps no friend could ever come close to Setsushi, but perhaps someday there will be a friend to whom Setsushi could never come close...
They'll just have to wait and see what the future holds.

[...]
A little while later, Kouyo is warmer, at least, in a puffy jacket lined at the collar with feathery fake fur. He kind of wishes he could feel more helpful with carrying the things that Setsushi purchased, but the skinny priest can only lift so much sweatdrop
Oh yeah, can they still stop in a bookstore, to see if they can find anything on flowers? He thought he saw a place earlier, Whitestone Used Books, or somesuch, on the opposite side of the street somewhere.

Hah, a couple bags are nothing to Setsushi! And after all, that's what a a military man does when there's no one to fight; lift heavy objects for other people. sweatdrop
They should indeed visit the bookstore. Setsushi's passed it a few times on his rounds about town, but he's never been inside yet. It looks like the kind of place where one might be able pick up some rare treasures too; perhaps Kouyo can find many more things to study than just a manual of flowers.
