Yes, no, maybe so?

    Dion knew they all had left, he had heard them leave and had watched them all file out the house from his window. He didn't know where they were going but he was sure it was for Aiko. She'd take all of them away now! Jin and Zeph would take HER instead of him to play pranks, Amos would help teach HER how to spell and read, Aquarius would let HER sit on his shoulders. Dion walked away from his window and threw himself face down on his bed as he thought. He didn't want her in the family, he wanted her to go away. Go back to where ever it was that she had come from. He didn't want to share his family with her, he didn't want to share anything with her. Zach and Emilie had said she'd get her own room but she'd have to sleep with him while everyone was over. Who was to say that it didn't stay like that? What if she ended up staying in his room? What if she took his toys? What then? What if she replaced Dion and everyone forgot he even existed? Dion grabbed his pillow and shoved it on top of his head. He didn't want to think like this, he knew Zach and Emilie wouldn't do that to him. Maybe she wasn't that bad. Maybe she was an okay kids.

    Maybe she wasn't.

    Dion groaned under his pillow and just as he did so he heard his room door shut. He bolted up into a sitting position, growling at the door like an animal defending its territory. He hadn't heard anyone come up the stairs let alone open the door. No one in the house was that quiet and everyone had pretty much left. Dion was expecting to see Zach but it wasn't him. It was the pink little bundle of joy that stared back at him. Frightened by his growl but she didn't move back, instead she came closer.

    "What do you want?" Dion asked sourly, his voice dripping with obvious dislike and anger. The little girl seemed shy, she fumbled with her fingers as she walked up to his bed. She leaned forward a little, about to climb up onto the bed and sit besides Dion. "No!" Dion shouted. The girl flinched back. "You can't come onto my bed." Dion ordered. Best to lay down from ground rules now, Dion wanted to put up a fight while he could.

    "Okay..." The girl said, a hurt look on her face. Dion groaned just slightly, he hated it when people cried and this girl seemed like the type to burst into tears any second. "What do you want?" Dion said again. He himself wanted this girl to leave him alone and his family. He wanted her to just go downstairs and walk out the house and never come back. But, sadly, you don't get everything you want in life.

    The girl stood there, still fumbling with her fingers as she avoided his stare. "Hello." She said shyly. "My name's Aiko." Dion stared at her with a bored expression. Was that all? He already knew her name, he didn't need her to tell him that. "Daddy said you my brother." She said, her voice getting some what happier at the word brother. Dion's tail twitched in annoyance. She was calling him daddy already? She had just got there! Dion frowned at her, did she call Emilie mommy too? "Daddy said-" She was cut off.

    "No. You don't call Zach daddy or Emilie mommy. You can't call them that, you're not allowed to!" Dion said harshly. Aiko took a step back as Dion stood up. "You just showed up. You don't have the right to call them that!" He growled at her, taking a step forward. Tears weld up in Aiko's eyes. "Why's brother so mean?" She asked in a whisper. Dion stomped his foot. "GET OUT!! GET OUT OF MY ROOM!!" He shouted at her. Aiko bolted, turning so fast she fell on the floor. Tears fell down her face as she scrambled to get up and ran out the room. Dion stomped forward and slammed his room door.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Zach had went into Dion's room twice already. The first time he had simply stared at Dion, Dion wasn't sure if he had been angry or not. The second time he told him that he had to apologize and that he couldn't talk like that to Aiko. Dion hadn't said anything, he didn't even look at Zach. He sat against his bed on the opposite side so he wasn't facing the door. He held his tail ring in his hands, feeling the growing crystals with his finger tips. Zach had left him alone for the past half hour and Dion didn't mind. He knew that he'd tell Emilie and then everyone else would find out and he'd be in even more trouble. Zach hadn't exactly punished him, only lectured and Dion wasn't sure if he should worry about what was to come. For now though, he didn't care. He gave that pink ball of annoyance a good talking and he was sure she wouldn't bother him again. Or, at least, he hoped not.
    His bedroom door creaked open and the form of Zach appeared in a shadow on the floor. "Dion, I can't find Aiko." Zach said in his serious tone but Dion could make out his worry beneath it. A sense of accomplishment swept Dion. Had he managed to get her to run away? Was she gone for good? "Dion, I need you to help me find her." Zach said, his voice growing more worried but still very serious. "No." Dion said, holding back a smile that felt unusually wrong. "Dion." Zach warned but Dion didn't budge. The two stayed there in silence for a minute or so. "Dion please." Zach said, his tone softer now. Dion flinched.
    Did Zach care that much for this girl? She had just arrived! Dion turned and looked over to Zach, his expression was that of pure worry and fear. That sense of accomplishment disappeared instantly and Dion was hit by a wave of guilt. Dion stared at him for a moment before finally standing up and walking over to him. "Thank you." Zach said, patting Dion on the head softly. Dion muttered something but said no more.
    The two ran across the house and looked every where. Zach had said he looked every where but Dion knew he hadn't. Dion knew this house inside and out, he knew every nook and cranny there was to know. And yet, even then Dion was finding it hard to find this girl. After a half an hour of searching Dion began to worry. Did he really manage to make her run away? In this cold weather? She'd freeze outside! Dion didn't want her to freeze! He just wanted her to disappear, away from his family. To another family, one that simply wasn't his. Dion quickened his search for her. He dug through closest and cabinets, he checked under every sink and behind every bookcase.
    Zach was off looking in the basement as Dion slipped into Emilie and Zach's room to search. As he shoved his hands underneath the bed he heard a gentle sniffle. Like someone was trying to make up for the absence of tissue. Dion froze, he listened closer and followed the sound. A short hiccup and a very gentle sob followed and Dion was able to trace it to the closet. Dion walked over and grabbed the door knob, he pulled it back and swung open the door quickly.
    There she was, underneath one of Emilie's night gowns and huddled tightly into the corner. She stared up at Dion in surprise at being found and Dion stared down at her. She didn't do anything at first, she simply stared at Dion with a tear stained face. All blotchy and red from crying, she matched her jumper and shoes. And then, after a few seconds she began to cry again. The water works stared with a sniffle before she shut her eyes and began to cry. She wasn't very loud but loud enough to annoy the heck out of Dion.
    Dion bent down, shushing her and placing a hand on her shoulder. She didn't seem to mind, actually, she embraced it. Aiko jumped forward, catching Dion in the chest and hugging him tightly around the neck. Dion fell back on his bottom as she cried into his shoulder. "I'm sorry!!" She said, muffled by his shirt. "I'm sorry brother! I won't call mommy and daddy, mommy and daddy!" She cried and Dion was hit with another wave of guilt. He didn't know what to do. He felt bad for saying what he had said but he didn't exactly want to admit defeat. He patted her back gently, holding her with one hand and patting with the other.
    "Uh, it's okay. Shhhhh, it's okay." He muttered to her awkwardly. She calmed down some after a while. She sobbed and hiccuped continuously before she pulled back and stared at Dion. She sat in his lap and rubbed her right eye with her hand. "I won't do anything you don't want me to do. No more." She said with a sniffle. More guilt, Dion felt so bad it was insane. "No." He said. "I'm sorry." He didn't want to say it but he would, just so he could make this bad feeling go away. "You can call Emilie mommy and Zach daddy." Dion said, not looking at her.
    There was silence for a moment before she sniffled again. "Really?" She asked. "Yeah." Dion winced at his own voice. What happened next surprised him. Aiko hugged him again, this time around the waist and she was smiling. No tears. "Okay." She said softly. Dion sat there, staring at the little pink girl that hugged his waist. A small smile tugged at his lips despite how the voice in the back of his ask was wondering if she had planned all of this. Zach could be heard downstairs as he returned from the basement, he called up to them and Dion responded. Maybe she wouldn't be all that bad after all. Maybe she'd make a good little sister.
    Once the hugging was over Dion led her back to the living room where Zach was more then happy to see the two. She held tightly to his hand despite how Dion tried his hardest to shake her loose.
GIFT TYME!! (Finally)
    Zach wasn't sure what exactly happened in the few minutes he had left but Dion and Aiko seemed to have made up and Aiko was no longer MIA. Zach watched the two as they migrated from the couch and the floor continuously while watching Tv. It was obvious that Aiko was following Dion and was having a blast all the while. Being part Diligence didn't leave Dion patient enough to sit on the couch and watch TV at once. He grew bored, fidgety, this was his natural routine though after a while Zach could tell he was just doing it to see if Aiko could keep up with him.
    Dion hadn't fully accepted Aiko but had accepted her enough that he wasn't yelling his head off at her. Zach was glad to see that much. Selene was right, the two were getting along. Zach wouldn't have to worry...but he would. Like any loving parents, he would worry.
    The family arrived a little while later, entering the house in a wave of chatter and motion. To Zach's shock they had managed to get all the gifts wrapped and ready by the store. This was only shocking because of the GREAT amount of gifts that there were. "What the-?!?! Did you guys buy the entire store?!" Zach asked as they placed the gifts down in the center of the room. "Three stores actually." Zeph said with a wide grin as he pulled off his own scarf. Zach laughed, "These are all for Aiko?" He asked. He saw Dion frown in the corner of his eyes. "No, no, no. Dion too. Seeing how he grew over night we're considering this a birthday party." Rin said as she bounced off into the kitchen. "Yes, we'll be preparing a cake." Numari said with a nod as she followed Rin. "Shah's birthday as well." Emilie whispered into Zach's ear before following her two "sisters". Zach glanced to Shah who was helping Krisha stack the boxes up into a mountain. A smile was on his face as he helped her, Zach couldn't help but do the same.
    Once Shah and Krisha were done with that the room grew silent. Aiko and Dion stared at the mountain of gifts with excitement and anticipation. Zeph and Jin grinned at one another. "On your mark!!" They shouted in unison. "Get set!" Dion leaned forward some as Aiko jumped a little. "We didn't say go yet, nope, not yet." They teased, Dion flinched forward but caught himself. There was a short paused before the twins shouted "GO!!" At the top of their lungs. Dion and Aiko slammed into the boxes, knocking them over and forcing Zach, Lucius, Amos and Shah to catch them. Jin and Zeph laughed loudly as the room filled with chatter and the two kids tore open their gifts.
    The gifts ranged from bracelets to blocks to orbs to food. Aiko and Dion would show Zach their gifts one at a time before hurrying back to the pile and opening another. By the time it was all over the living room was covered in boxes and torn wrapping paper. Dion was snapping pictures with his newly acquired camera from Emilie and Aiko was showing off her heart bracelet and munching on a lollipop from Selene and the twins. Zach wasn't surprised to know that the books were from Amos and Serre had gotten them the bows and arrows.
    An hour later Rin, Numari and Emilie appeared with two cakes. Zach had no idea how they were prepared so quickly but they were and they were showered with candles. They commenced to sing Happy Birthday for Dion, Shah (who didn't seem to be too happy about it) AND Aiko. Dion didn't object and she was more then thrilled about it. The rest of the day went by rather..."uneventful" compared to the rest of the day. Dion and Aiko played with their gifts, thanking everyone in the family continuously. Everyone else watched TV, ate and hung around in good cheer.
    When the end of the day came everyone slipped off to their rooms. Dion shared his bed with Aiko and Emilie slept with Zach on the air mattress. Today was a day to remember.
