@ Obsession and Kurosagi, they can use Jareth's ability in response to you playing Faith's Fetters, which would make the spell fizzle. Now, if you can get the fetters on him when they're tapped out, probably after he's played, but a good player would keep at least 1 mana open for him, then you would be able to capture the beast. But...oh wait! Disenchant....
My fave common is, glitterfang.

Wellwisher from Scourge. Tap it, and gain 1 life for each elf in play. Makes my elf deck that much better.

Makes my elf deck that much better. umm. it's rom onsaught. i would know for a fact..... and as for teh fetters card on Jareth. Jareth can still activate his protection from colors ability at any time. it's a mana ability. so he can give himself pro white whenever the ******** he wants to. neutralizing the fetters. fetters can't stop mana activated abilities. and Jareths pro is a mana activated ability. therefore it does nothing to him except allow you to gain four life for 4. same thing with Memnarch. he can still activate his mana abilities.

I always liked sadistic glee . I built my first deck somewhat around it ... its extremely powerfull in multiplayer games especially when you combine it with doomsday cards like "do or die" and plague wind . People, an activated ability is: (Cost) : (effect) A mana ability is an activated ability which effects produce mana.
As for best common, Albern agrees that it should go toWild Mongrel. What good is a Wellwisher when there are no other elfs in play. Hell, what god is life gain when your opponent ismilling you.
Other than the mutt, Albern thinks Counterspell deserves an honorable mention.

hmm...i think in standard, sakura tribe elder is the best common. but overall...i'd probably say lightning bolt, though i don't exactly know all that much about the older cards....i only started about 4 years ago...

Um 3 damage for 1 at instant speed? Straight up counterspell for 2? +3 +3 and trample and it comes back to my hand if it leaves? Destroy a land for 2? 1/1 for 1 with loss of life built in? 2/2 for 2 that can avoid most kill spells and gets bigger? Counterspell and untap 4 land?
there's my explanations for the cards.

You don't say anything about Moment's Peace. It is great card too like Fog, Holy day or Darkness + cheap flasback
We talk about best COMMON, right? Than don't chat about Jareth or some uncommon cards, ok?

Tell him what he's won johny! "Well ted, he's won the the greatest common ever made: terminate! Kill a creature, any creature for two lowly mana! And then the second best, counter spell!. Your opponent playing too many huge a** creature? Is he emptying his mana pool to put out a 100/100 Ivy elemental? Well nothing tells your hated opponent 'stick it up your mana accelerated a**' like countering 101 mana's worth of effort with only two! although i wouldl like to point out at this time that Jareth could easily make himself pro white as the spell was cast, therefore never being hit with it. They mana-costed them based upon what that card itself becomes, not how powerful they can be together.
Plated sliver: W, 1/2, suitable mana cost. 2 plated slivers: WW, 1/3 1/3, suitable for a wall, maybe. 3 plated slivers: WWW, 1/4 1/4 1/4, great for an uncommon wall 4 plated slivers: WWWW, 1/5 1/5 1/5 1/5, they don't make walls like this. O.o
Can you say meatshields?
Then, there's Muscle slivers. Two mana, get a 2/2. That's typical green. Four of them get you a crapload of 5/5's for two mana each. With the plated slivers you now have an army of 5/9 creatures for a measly 12 mana.
