Ouch. Magnus supposed that limited the type of questions he could feasibly ask. After all, her father was just around the corner. "Well, I'm glad having the date here was a good idea, then. It seems to be helping you, at the least." He offered a charming smile, even though he was cursing the closeness of daddy in his mind.

"Enjoying your meal?" Instead of asking more about her, he would switch to what they were doing for now. It was a little safer to talk about the food in case her dad came out of that tiki hut and followed her. He might wonder why Magnus was asking so many questions. Magnus really didn't want to get questioned by her father...

Kaelia nodded. "Yes, it is very good. What is did you bring? Anything sweet?" She had gotten a pretty good sweet tooth living with her dad. Though, growing up on fruit she was always used to sugar.

Sweet, sweet, sweet. He had to have something sweet somewhere, besides his grapes which were his grapes and Kaelia wasn't going to get any of his grapes because they were his grapes and... he was ranting to himself in his head. Magnus went through the picnic basket. "Well, fruits are always sweet," he showed Kaelia some of the sweets he had brought, "but I have some desserts too."

He pulled out another bag of grapes and set it next to him before taking out a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, and a vanilla cake with vanilla frosting. "I didn't know which you liked better, so I got both." Magnus didn't want to risk her getting irritated with him because he couldn't figure out what kind of sweets she liked. And if she really had a sweet tooth, Magnus was fully prepared.

Wow he really came prepared. Kaelia smiled. "How about a small piece of both? That way I can try each. They both look so good. Did you make them?" She told him with another smile. They did look very good. She liked chocolate, but wanted to try the other too.

To lie or to not lie, that was the question. Wasn't that like a quote from some old dead guy? No matter. He decided to fib a little. "Well, not totally by myself, but yes." Actually, he stole the cakes from the Pae'il Headquarters, but he wasn't about to say that. Kaelia could just assume Magnus had made it himself even though he could hardly cook.

"Feel free to take some of both. I'm more of a grape person myself anyway." Now that was the truth. Magnus popped yet another grape into his mouth. It was a wonder how he could eat so many of them without even batting an eye. Then, he realized that Kaelia was probably asking him to cut it. Oh, right. Knitting his brows, Magnus lazily lifted the knife and cut a rather sloppy piece of both.

Kaelia would have done it herself, but he had already cut the cakes for her. She took the plate with a smile. "Wow, that's neat. I can't cook myself. I guess I never needed to as my dad does it mostly. I should ask him someday to teach me." She then took a bite of the vanilla cake and then the chocolate. She smiled as it was good. "very good!"

It was interesting, but the more he observed her the more like everyone else she seemed. Perhaps being a mix of demonic and angelic didn't make her all that different anyhow. Magnus furrowed his brows in vexation for seemingly no reason before the expression disappeared and he resumed eating his grapes.

His brilliant, smooth smile came back as easily as it had disappeared. "Ah, Kaelia, I am quite glad you like it. I was hoping to create something that you would enjoy." Well, he was hoping that he had stolen something that she would enjoy, but it was all the same, really. Right? Never mind. He popped another grape in his mouth before glancing out to the lake.
"It appears to go on forever, doesn't it?"

Kaelia smiled and blushed a little. She then took another bite as she looked at the lake. "Yeah, I guess it does. My sister lives on the beach at the other side. My dad often surfs over there. I've never done that." She hadn't really wanted to try. Even though her whole family surfed.

He remembered Aysu once mentioning that Texas had wanted to surf at some point. However, Texas never actually had. Therefore, Magnus had absolutely no experiences with 'surfing,' whether his own experiences or through someone else, but he wasn't about to let Kaelia know that. Rather, she'd get another coat of words that balanced on the line of outright lie and half-truth.

"I have seen people surf," he smoothly stated, "and it does look rather fun. Any reason why you don't? You do appear to know people who would be willing to teach you, but you opt not to be taught." Magnus popped a grape in his mouth. "Are you afraid?"

Kaelia thought about his question for a moment. Was she? She didn't like dark, being along or thinking about what happened to her mom. Those things did make her afriad. Water and surfing? She hadn't even thought about it like that. Kaelia just didn't want to...right?

Finally she looked Magnus in the eyes. "No, I just don't want to. You can not want to do something and not be afriad of it."

When she stated that she wasn't and stared him right in the eye, Magnus actually seemed a bit impressed. Most didn't seem capable of defying him, even if what he was saying was false. "Perhaps, if you ever want to, we should try learning to surf together, then." His smooth voice wasn't gone, but he looked a little more admiring than he had before.

"Then what do you fear? Unless you are uncomfortable talking of it." He was curious. Was Kaelia a fearless woman, or did her angelic qualities build some fear into her? Was it even being an angel that did that to her? Plenty of demonics had fears too, right? "If you are, I respect that."

"You know what? That sounds like a nice idea. If you do it I will too." She chuckled. "My dad does teach lessons." She smiled until he asked what she was a afriad of. She didn't want to share because she didn't want to look like a fool, but then if he asked her on a date and didn't like her because of that then that's what a date was for anyway.

"Well, I guess I can say. Everyone has fears. Even you I bet. I don't much care for dark or caves. Being stuck there for so long and all. I don't really have to worry though as I can make things glow and I'm not near caves. I afriad of what happened to my mom but I can't help that."

So he could do something Texas had previously wanted to do. Ha! He'd be awesome then, because Texas was awesome. Magnus would never say that to his face, though... Wait, what was he talking about? "Then we'll have to get lessons from him sometime." That was when he shifted his attention to her fears.

She was actually going to tell him? That took quite a bit of bravery. This Kaelia wasn't so bad. Maybe she would be worth more than a standard science experiment after all. ...Or not. Well, she was afraid of the dark and what happened to her mother. Considering her past, it made sense. It probably had nothing to do with her mixed heritage, but then again nothing about her seemed to. "I suppose we all have fears, and yours are understandable." He wasn't volunteering his quite so readily. She'd have to ask.

"Okay, I'm sure my dad would love to give us lessons." Kaelia knew he'd love to give her lessons. She figured he was disapointed that she hadn't gotten them already.

"Yeah, I guess you are right." Kaelia didn't ask Magnus his fears. She didn't really need to know and she didn't think a guy would tell her anyway. Being that they liked to seem macho for girls. Or so she was told. The mixed demon ate more of her cakes.

Magnus wasn't quite concerned with being macho. No, he was just concerned with being the most intoxicating person on the isle, and getting what he wanted all the time. That was, in most respects, considerably worse.

Seeing how Kaelia resumed eating her cake, he figured it was alright to remain silent for a little while and simply eat his grapes and watch the water. This silence was nice. It also let him rethink his strategy, or if there was anything to even find out. Kaelia seemed a lot more similar to the average Pae'il than he was expecting. Yes, she had been abandoned for ages, but all the same she seemed much more average than he expected.
