I am going to resrict any level ajustement above 4, and no half-dragons, and no half-celestial. besides that you can be just about whatever you want.

xd Sweet. though what about half-fiends, are they also on the restricted list? but I guess that question really doesn't matter as I think I'll play a tiefling (Not an actual asumption.)

Perfect. Youd be surprised how scary I can make an ECL of 5 be. ((LV Adj 4, lV One Class. Total 5 Right?))

Alright, Heres what an ECL is. It stands for; Effective Character Level. Meaning, if you pick a race. lets use Hengeyokai, Oriential Adventures base race has a Level Adj of +1. Meaning a Level one Hengeyokai is effectively a level two character. Now, this only affects two things. Experiance gain, and ammount to next level. So instead of needing 1000 to be level two in their class they would need 3000. So thats the drawback.

So basically. An ECL just makes you a lil stronger at level one, but makes it harder for you to level up. And normal non ECL characters will level up faster and catch up to your power quickly. Its just a balance for people who want something non-human.

I ahve never played that way..... Wow, eek

I always had each Level adjustment equal a level. So you couldn't play even a +1 LA race at first level.

I did the same for racial HD..

HHhmm... with my new understanding of the rules...I shall ahve to remake my character...perhasp...

Racial Hd...ah...I cant believe I left that out of the ECL explanation... Its kinda important...

So, Ok!

If your race happens to start with a Racial HD or extra Health Points due to levels it has as an Outsider, hereby called Racial HD, you ad the number of HD to the Lv Adj. So say you play a Hound Archon. The Hound Archon's base Lv Adj. Is 5. So you start as an Effective Character Level of 6. 5 from the Lv Adj. 1 from class Lv. Now, the Hound Archon also has 6d8 Outsider HD. Which, you can choose to take or leave. But if you take the extra HD the feats that come with them the BAB, Fort, Ref, and Will bonus that come with it. Your Lv Adj becomes 11. 5 base and 6 HD Lv Adj. So if you take the HD your total ECL becomes 12. Your a level 12 character for purposes of experience gain and leveling up.

See, easy peasy lemon squeezy. Well, not really. But its the simplest form I can explain in. That's usually why I recommend that new players and players who haven't had a lot of experience, as well as those with new DMs stay away from ECLs and Lv Adjs just because it makes the game easier.

Now! Stop making me get off track on things I love to pester people about! God, why do I have to love enforcing the rules and then using them to make my character a god?! Anyway... I need to get to work on my guy... Hmmm, should I make a Vashar?....Oh faeries and gumdrops the possibilities... *Sarcasm*

Oh yeah. Finished my base plan for a character. Ah, I love knowing the rules so well that I can bend them to make myself a god... It always brings a tear to my eye when I produce a Feral Shadow Human of Legend... or other things along those lines.

For now thats exactally what I made. A Feral Shadow Human of Legend. It fits the rules perfectally. Lv Adj is exactally 4. And that was pretty much the only rule but it fits!! Ah, gonna be a powerhouse for the first few levels.

Templates out the Wazoo. It started as a normal human, but due to my creative genious and knowledge. Its become a Feral Shadow Human of Legend. Ah the power....
