Girls, don't you have a feeling that as metalheads we may be perceived as soooo un-female (by the outside world)?

Guys seem to think of me as another guy among them, not as a girl. I don't know how I'm so unfeminine in their minds. D:

D:It's as if the fact that we listen to this powerful and energetic music changed our brains and way of thinking. I don't know what's this, but in fact there are elements in at elast my behavior, that are not traditionally female. I just wonder if this is only metalhead-like or whether that is a general tendency. Or maybe we just comprehend things better and don't allow this world to make us into what this world thinks a female is?

I think that it is not the music that makes us somehow less female, but that the strong type of female that is attracted to metal does not fit the coy ,meek, cutsy and feminine girl typified as female.

I disagree. Ive seen some very feminine girls who listen to metal and who can wear the clothes like a Lay-day. But as a rule of thumb, I do think it's the clothing that leads to that statement.

I do not really believe it has much to do with what you wear. Those girls you spoke are obviously viewed as feminine. Also, the most popular thing I have seen in the popular metal crowd for the female is in fact the corset and skirt

So what's option 3? I never said less feminine, I said strong women. (we are feminine too, just not overly so to the point that people feel that they need to coddle us) anywho... OPTION 3- our music makes men think we hate attention? question

It is either considered we seem too strong or too violent when listening to this type of music, not mentioning the traditional metal clothes like jeans+band t-shirt with boots which would make you even less feminine in the eye of the general community (yes, girls, you should wear a pink dress instead!).
Now, I of course do wear jeans and generally pants a lot, but I also wear skirts a lot and those more feminine clothes, I would say. And now a dialogue:
"So, you like going to clubs a lot?" "I don't go there at all" "Why? It's fun" "Not really. I'd rather go to a metal concert instead" Here a pause and a moment of silence with a shock printed all over face.
"You like Metallica?" (other options may include Limp Bizkit or Linkin park or whatever harder you may find in todays rock on radio) "No, I like Death" Here another moment of silence and even more shock with a bit of embarrasment on the face.
Well, fortunately, I don't meet a lot people like that. Most are intelligent enough to not ask about going to clubs. Even if I'm dressed in those really feminine clothes wink .

Well Kas, I think to your question are we percieved as unfemale, the answe is yes. Whether we ARE in fact, un female is another question all together.
One that depends on the individual for I don't think stereotyping is in order. The female metal head is a special breed.
