Numielle continued to play in the cold waters, despite her now lack of feeling in her thin legs. She didn't frequently get to splash in such good company, and she did fear the days that winter would freeze over the waters. Ooooh, spring seemed like it would take forever to melt the world, and Numielle honestly didn't like the cold. It was never fun to sit shivering in the winter, even with two sets of wings to keep her warm. "I like the Fluffy-Fluffy," she added with a grin, giving the water one last splash with her spiked tail. "He's the only bear I ever got to meet." Ever since she'd been a little filly, the young mare had been strangely obsessed with the creatures. She found them cute, and adorable, and knew for a fact they made good pillows.

Playing with Giru and Penance was one of her most cherished memories. . . but she wasn't sure if it was because she was with Penance or because a bear was there. Maybe a little bit of both, really. Unable to stand the cold any longer, the long haired mare finally trotted out of the water. She was indeed damp and cold, and her hair (which was significantly longer than Penny's) was now to drag behind her. Giving herself a little shake, and losing some feathers in the process, it didn't take her long to take up Penance's invitation to cuddle. Pushing herself underneath his wing, ever so carefully wrapped her tail over his rump as if to cling on to him further, Numielle had no objections settling herself.

"I like this view," she added with a smile, looking up at the autumn waterfall. Glancing over at her glowing eye companion, she added with an even brighter smile, "It's so much nicer to have someone to share it with, oh yes, yes it is! Numi hopes Penny likes it too." Cold as she might be, she had someone warm to cuddle up against. . . .

It would be awfully cold when he left to go back home. The mare didn't want to think of such a thing. . . not yet. She just got her friend back, she refused to let him go so swiftly.

When Penance had left home he suspected that his family had understood that he wouldn't be returning for quite some time. Unlike Azuell he had always possessed a greater sense of adventure and a lust for travel. More to the point he had also sworn that he would protect his friend and that required him to remain present in her life. While Azumoth may not have been thrilled at the prospect of his young son taking such a pledge, he wasn't about to forbid him from doing it either. Experience was a valuable thing within one's life and as such, Penance would grow and develop in accordance with his own mistakes and successes. At least Penance could reassure that Numielle would see him for as long as she needed to - she could cuddle him all night and be sure that he would still be there in the morning!

Clearing his throat, the stallion calmly wrapped his wing more tightly around her petite form to shield her from the worst of the wind's cold bite and shifted his gaze from the waterfall to the mare as she spoke. Her expression was certainly a serene one, content with the simplest things in life and she never seemed to have a great many expectations. She wanted him to enjoy the scene, that much he could gather but she didn't demand that he do it and nor did she expect him to simply agree with her - even though he did.

"I already told you I liked it the first time I saw it," he reminded her gently, his smile causing his fangs to protrude from his lips. Adjusting his weight from one hoof to the other, he soon placed more of his weight and warmth against the mare having taken her light frame and just how soffy her hair was into consideration. He had forgotten that his coat was significantly warmer than hers and it hadn't really clicked until this point. Swivelling his ears he once again lulled into silence for a short while and observed the waterfall until she made reference to Giruvegan again. She certainly lived a very quiet and sheltered life when it came to meeting others though really...not meeting many bears was a good thing in his book.

...Not every bear was pleasant.

"Well I'm sorry I'm not as fluffy as he is," he teased at last and turned his golden gaze back to the mare once again. It was with the slightest hint of flirtation, subconcious on all levels that he arched a brow as he did. She was unlikely to be receptive to it and he hadn't been deliberate in his behaviour but everyone was led by instinct now and again - that was why some were inclined to slip more often than not! "Warm enough, Numielle?" He enquired at last and furrowed his brow.

"If you aren't we can find somewhere more comfortable..."

It was very pleasant to be snuggled by her friend. Very, very pleasant. How lucky was she to have such a handsome friend? How lucky was she to be in such glorious and glamorous company, to know that he had sought her out; that he had taken time to give her a gift. Why, if only everyone had a friend as kind and considerate and caring as Penance than the world would be a much happier place indeed.

Her ears pricked and swiveled at his gentle reminder, and she felt her black nose burn a bit with embarrassment. Oh yeah. . . she had asked him about it when they had first arrived, and he did seemed pleased with the view. Ducking her head, half turning to hide her head in her hair she gave a little smile and nod. "Ooooh, oh yes, that's right; I . . . I guess I just forgot in my excitement. Numi forgets things sometimes, but she promises she's not as forgetful as her mother!" The mare hastily assured her friend, ebony and blue eyes going wide in a moments fear that he might snort his disgust and leave. She tried to remember, and she usually did make sense of things but it sometimes was a battle. . . the fates certainly hadn't made it easy for the sensetive mare.

Cuddled up against Penance, Numielle returned his gaze with an adoring regard all her own. She really did like Penance, even if she couldn't possibly understand the real lengths of her affections. He was her only friend, her only companion outside of her family and therefor she had little to compare her feelings against. . . All she knew was she liked him, and wanted nothing more than for him to be happy. Preferably with her. "But Numi doesn't want you to be fluffy like a bear," she objected with a smile. Burying her head against his neck, leaning in to his embrace, she added, "I like you just the way you are. Numi wouldn't change a thing." Even if he didn't have the thick pelt Giruvegan did, the ebony male was still made up of muscle, warmth and a winter coat. That was enough for any mutant-angeni.

"Oh, I'm just fine, yes I am," she assured gently, pressing her nose lightly against his own. Her black and blue eyes studied his golden glowing orbs and she made sure she memorized his face. It would be getting dark in a few hours with the shorter days and the young mare knew that night time often met the dispersal of friends. He would have to go back to his grove and she would lose him once again. . . .

She couldn't possibly know he meant to stick around and stay. The thought of him leaving threatened to ruin the moment and worse, she felt the sting of tears. No, she wouldn't cry. . . . He wasn't gone yet, afterall. "This has been the best day ever," she admitted with a whisper. "Thank you." And she meant that with the sincerity of the world.

Of course, he was the most amazing and incredible friend in the history of all friends IF you could forgive him for the questionnable thoughts shooting through his head at the speed of light. The mare was lucky she wasn't a mindreader at this point in time, the gods only knew how crimson she would turn if she could see what he could see. He was impure, corrupt and should have been very ashamed of himself. Granted he was ashamed of himself but unfortunately his mind appeared to be thoroughly entertained with the images and continued to play with them accordingly. For all intents and purposes he was the worst friend at this moment in time... considering that good friends did envision scenarios regarding their companions and well...

It was a good thing that his parents had raised him so well, he had mastered the art of being attentive even as he struggled with internal conflicts and as such, he offered a bemused smile at Numielle. He was reassured that she was warm, content in his company and more than comfortable now that she had a personal heater and that was an answer he couldn't fault. So long as she remained content, he would remain as he was and onyl when she asked of it would he seek out a warmer and more suitable resting place for the night.

That being said it hadn't been his intention to inferr that she was forgetful to that extent and as she desperately attempted to reassure him, he did something very out of sorts. In order to silence the mare from further hasty (and unneeded) excuses, he lowered his head slightly, placed his muzzle against her own and licked it gently. He knew that in her enthusiasm certain points may slip her mind, knew that there was a risk that she might forget a thing or two but she wasn't the only one to do it. He was far from repulsed by that and merely accepted it as a fact of life - though he made a note to tread lightly in terms of mentioning 'forgetfulness' in future.

"Relax Numielle...I was only teasing you," he reassured her with another of his smiles. Having said that he would have been content to lull into silence once again as she filled the gaps with her lively chatter and soft voice. Unfortunately this wasn't to be though as she thanked him for the day and seemed close to...tears?

"Twinks, are you all right?" he enquired worridly.

If there was one way to shut Numielle up, licking her muzzle was indeed it. In fact, she was so surprised by the gesture that her ears shot up and her eyes widened in surprise while her mind tried to figure out exactly what had happened. He . . . he. . . .he licked her. Not just that, he licked her and now she felt her cheeks flush hot and, what was worse, she kind of wanted him to do it again. It was one thing to cuddle and nuzzle, that wasn't a problem in the least (as far as Numielle were concerned) but Penance had done something she hadn't expected. . . .

He'd kissed her. And all on his own too. The red haired mare was used to being the one to shower others in affection. With the way her family worked she honestly hadn't much of a choice in the matter; if she wanted to get cuddles and feel loved than she was the one who had to initiate it. Her sisters sometimes rolled their eyes and 'tolerated' it, and her parents frequently did the same, but for once Penance had been the one to kiss her. . .

And Numielle had never been kissed before.

Oh, if she could bury her face in her wings she might very well have done so. But Penance had her wrapped in his wing and the mare didn't want to disturb their happy position so instead she gave a little giggle, remembered to breath, and buried her face against his own neck and hair. Though it shut her up . . . it also made everything just a little worse.

Numielle liked Penance around. She liked how he felt, she adored his cuddles and found complete acceptance with him. He had been her friend and had come back to her, even after all the years that had passed, and yet now with a kiss and cuddle she was certain he would leave. Friends were friends. . . but that didn't mean they were meant forever. It was then that he asked if she was all right. . .how she was feeling. . . .

Oh, why did he have to treat her so special!? It never occurred to Numielle that asking someone how they were was a rather ordinary thing to do; but in a family as twisted as the one she lived in, outside of her family enquirering it was something new to the mare. She had been extraordinarily protected as a filly and the spirits had made sure her innocence and sweetness thrived. It was both a blessing and a curse. . . for try as she might, the thought of losing Penance once again hurt terribly so. Keeping her face buried against the stallions neck, it took all the will power she had to not allow her voice to crack, even as a few tears began their slow slide down her muzzle. "I'm . . . . I'm just very, very happy," she tried to explain, hoping that he might not notice her tears.

If she cried again what if he ran away? Oh. . . .but what was a mare supposed to do? He wasn't making things easy, oh no. And before she could stop it, she finally blurted, "But I don't want you to go!" Her need for her friend was great, much greater than even she realised. But it was with a knowledge that he might leave her waiting once again was something she feared to go through again.

Oh, there was no doubt Numielle would wait forever for Penance to return, but that didn't mean she enjoyed the time apart.
PostPosted: Sun Jan 04, 2009 6:10 pm

She was crying!

"N-numi...elle?" Furrowing his brow the stallion attempted to turn his head just a little more to catch her within his sight. Unfortunately, she had strategically positioned her face in the depths of his mane and as a consequence he couldn't really make heads nor tails of how she appeared. Body language and facial expressions were always so powerful, they spoke volumes and usually gave away far more than creatures cared to admit. Such things could also be a blessing when one simply couldn't place their emotions into words, now would have been one of those times if she'd at least given him a chance to see. Instead she had chosen to hide from him and he struggled to come to terms with the reasoning behind it.

...Had he gone a step too far? Usually she was the one to instigate, the one to hold out her wing as a request for affection. If she wanted attention she would cuddle, nuzzle or otherwise inform him of her presence. Admittedly she never asked permission and while he would never have denied her, her touch did cause him to encounter a whole new ball park of issues. Now that he had taken the bull by the horns and attempted to calm her it seemed he had inadvertently set her off again! Evidently he wasn't terribly good at communicating with women and lacked the 'suave' gene that most of the males in Islagiatt had. The suave and seductive voice he might have had but...not much could be said for his implementation of such things.

"I never meant to upset you, please don't -"

"But I don't want you to go!"

The words rang in his ears and left him stunned, a startled silence followed and his lips parted in a soft 'oh'. Really, his thought processes had not been directed towards the approaching dusk. So intent had he been to enjoy his reunion with his friend that he had scarcely taken it into consideration. However, it seemed that she had been troubled by it for quite some time and he hadn't even realised. In a manner of speaking he was delighted to hear such a declaration but on the other hand he felt he deserved a swift slap to the rump for being so blind!

"Erm," he cleared his throat in the most undignified of fashions and released a soft sigh, tightening his wing around the mare until the joints began to ache a little. If she had been that worried she should have told him sooner, if he had been more observant he should have noticed it sooner...

"Twinks, I'm not going any where." He pointed out softly, a tiny laugh in his voice as he attempted to reassure the mare as best he could through her tears. "You think I'd wait four years to find you and then leave again in the space of a few hours? That's..." He shook his head, a gentle smile climbing onto his lips. "That's not how things work..."

Numielle honestly couldn't stop the tears, not quite as quickly as she wished. The moment she got started, and the second Penance suddenly seemed to panic, it was all Numielle could do to keep from down right sobbing. All she could imagine and picture was this brilliant day suddenly coming to a screeching hault; she would laugh and nuzzle him, he would wrap her in his wings a final time, and then they would both part ways.

It was just the way things went. . . It was what always seemed to happen. Friends didn't stay with one another for long or so she'd found out. Her father and mother stayed together because they were mates and in love; but Penance was just her friend. Love wasn't something Numielle truly understood nor was it something she ever thought about; Ezriel loved Nimue more than life itself. . . and though Nimue often forgot things, Numi knew without a doubt that her mother was also in love with Ezriel. But as for being in love herself. . .? Well those things just didn't happen. . . . She was lucky enough to have Penance as a friend and couldn't ever ask any more out of him.

But the hurt that came out of thinking of him leaving, of them parting ways was enough for Numielle to know she really did love him. And maybe she wasn't clear on how deep her love ran, nor was she clear on how much was defined as a friends love as opposed to something else, but she DID love him. Even if the details were blurred in both confusion and tears. To let him go would be the hardest thing she'd have to do and the mare just couldn't bring herself to do it. . . .

Shuddering lightly against his side, face still buried such was Numielle's grief that she almost didn't hear his reassuring words. Slowly, slowly, his words began to resonate within her. . . . He . . . He wasn't going anywhere? He wasn't going to leave once it became dark and he'd have to travel back to the slopes? Shyly, cautiously, Numielle took her head away from his neck and stared up at the male before her. A few rogue tears glistened against her eye lashes, while her muzzles was now damp and disheveled. "But . . . but of course that's how it-" *hiccup* "-it w-works. . . " She sniffled before averting her gaze in shame.

How silly she was to be crying but he couldn't possibly know how bad the thought of him leaving hurt. It was a physical pain that caused her heart to grow heavy and feel as if it might shatter in to a million pieces. To have to wait once again for him to come back would be a nightmare. "You're going t-t-t-to have to. . . to go back to your home. And. . .and soon cause it's. . .it's dark and N-N-Numi wouldn't want you t-t-to-" *sniffle* "-get lost. . .or m-make your Mama worried." And that's what getting home late always seemed to do.

Even Ezriel and Nimue expressed concern if Numielle strayed too far and too late. At least they had when she was smaller. . . . "I know you c-c-c-can't stay forever," she finally sighed, flopping her head against his neck as she knew she had to give in to the inevitable. ". . . but th-th-that doesn't mean I can't want you to."

Just how many soquili had left her in her life? Penance's lips remained parted as she explained herself to him. On more than one occasion he had thought to interrupt and had decided it was better to remain silent. However, as her stutter and sniffle became progressively worse he could do nothing more than shake his head in disbelief. Granted he was far away from home, really far away from home, but that was the whole point of it. He had waved goodbye to his parents, to giruvegan (kinda) and to his brother and had embarked on a journey that he was fairly certain wouldn't permit him to return to the grove in a very long time. It was something he had come to understand and he had flown the nest willingly - he hadn't been kicked out of it by a disgruntled parent for living at home for too long.

He had made a promise and as he had grown and matured he had never forgotten it. This in itself was quite unusual for a child. Promises, oaths and pledges were often forgotten as a creature matured - they were rendered mere 'games' and part of the imagination. Such things were generally not important but for Penance it had been - after all, he had lived in a 'dead' forest and few wandered through those woods other than family. He had lived a mundane life, accompanied only by his brother and his family until she had walked into his life. That had meant something and he had never forgotten it either.

A promise was a promise.

As a child he'd sworn he would come and find her if she got lost and while it had taken him years to do it, he had succeeded. He wasn't about to let her wander off again anytime soon either! Now he had found her his promise was even more important, to keep her safe and to make her feel secure. She was always so worried that she would 'forget' and while he had faith that she wouldn't, he would always be there to reassure her anyway. She had her moments of such excitement that things slipped her mind but she was not her mother.

"No, Twinks..." he cleared his throat, keeping his golden gaze locked on the mare as he mulled over the best way to express himself. This was not a time for misunderstandings or further tears on the basis of him having a 'hiccup' or slip of the tongue. "That's not how it works," he continued, his tone both soothing and patient as he brushed away the stray strands of hair from her nose.

"My parents know I won't be coming home, they know I'm unlikely to come back because I made a promise to you," he pointed out softly. Popping his lips lightly in thought, he allowed a faint smile to creep on to his lips. By the gods he hated tears, but he hated them even more on the petite mare who seemed to very distressed at what she seemed to think was his inevitable departure. "When I was a child, they used to watch me closely but now..."

He paused for a short while and then finally placed his lips to her ear, his words a soft murmur.

"I will stay by your side forever. Each time you forget - I'll remind you, each time you stray - I'll find you. Just like I promised all those years ago..."

Numielle listened quietly to what Penance said, ears pricked and enveloping every word. Though she still sniffled now and then, her black and blue gaze was focused only on the ebony stallion before her. How was he going to respond to her tears and her fear? She doubted he'd laugh at her, silly a mare she might very well be, but there wasn't much they could do about their predicament. Even if he wanted to stay he couldn't very well stay . . .

"Forever"

That one word resonated louder than all the rest and caused Numielle's breath to catch. Her eyes widened ever so slightly as her brain tried desperately to keep her from shutting down all systems in shock. He would. . . he would what!? "F-Forever?" She repeated dumbly, her voice a mere whisper. "Like forever-forever?" As in for the rest of her life, as in tomorrow, and the next day, and the day after that, and possibly even a whole month.

No. . . . Penance couldn't possibly mean to stay that long. How could he? Didn't he have a family to return home to? Didn't he have loved ones that needed his protection and tender care? What about all his other friends? Oh, but to keep him forever. . . To not have to worry about him running away or fleeing. To know that if she fell asleep now he would still be present in her leife when she woke amazed the mare. This was . . . . this was too good to be true, she just had to be dreaming!

The mare remembered to breathe, her expression dumbstruck as she stared at Penance but such a thing lasted only a moment. "You mean you'll - - - - stay? Oh Penance!" Her tear-stained eyes suddenly took on a glow of pure and utter delight. "You really will stay forever, w-w-won't you?" If he said than Numielle just had to believe him. She wasn't so bitter or jaded to know that sometimes people didn't keep their word; sometimes when they said forever they didn't mean it. No, Numielle couldn't possibly understand that sort of hopelessness and doubt. If Penance said he'd stay forever than Numielle just had to believe him. . . .

And though she didn't know how he could stand to be away from his family for so long, though she still had questions about how and why he would choose to do such a thing for her, all the mare could think about and feel was her joy. Half flopping on top of Penance, attempting to embrace him with her wings and give him a million more nuzzles and nibbles, it was easy to see that she was thrilled by his devotion.

"You will never regret choosing me. . . Never ever!"

PostPosted: Tue Jan 06, 2009 6:32 am

Whatever he had done had worked and he permitted himself to laugh as the mare's exhuberance returned and with it, came a tidal wave of affection. He hadn't said anything particularly dramatic in his opinion, all he had done was remind her of his promise and his intention to keep it. While he did have a family on the slopes he could safely say that they were well guarded by his ever present father. The grove didn't need him and after raising he and his brother, it was probably a refreshing change for his parents to be alone again. What they chose to do in their private time was their business and he'd rather he didn't know but the space would probably be appreciated... That and he suspected his father understood when he had said he wouldn't come home, even if his mother had worried.

If he had ever regretted choosing Numielle then he would most likely, have forgotten about her. Her worst nightmare of course, but he had never been able to forget his overly affection friend in the forest. Neither had he permitted the images of their games slip his mind. Whether he had to continually dig her out of vines when her tail was stuck, or when she had snuggled up to her teddy bear (giruvegan) who had seemed more than content to accept the heightened levels of affection.

That being said he wasn't aware that there was another form of 'forever' as she attempted to clarify his words and rather than point this out, he merely permitted the mare to mull over everything in her mind. By now he had come to understand that she didn't have the same train of thought as most. The patterns and trails her mind chose to walk were often unpredictable, yet sure enough his patience paid off and she eventually settled with the same definition as he had for 'forever'. She may not have quite grasped that level of devotion yet but in time, perhaps she would... life was a learning curve after all and if she wanted to learn, he was certain she could.

"Promise is a promise, Numi." He pointed out patiently, the smile still on his equine lips as he queezed the mare against his side. Really her leaning was placing quite a lot of weight on his legs and he was rather glad she was tiny. Even with her flopping her was able to remain in a reasonably good position and his centre of balance scarcely shifted in order to accomodate the added weight. "Whether you like it or not you're going to have to get used to seeing this face," he teased and shook his head, unfurling his wing around her form so that she wouldn't flap about quite so much and could give him the cuddle she was attempting to.

"I do have a few years to make up for you know..." he pointed out wisely.

((Ugh. I fail at ahrpee. ;0; Sorry. ))
Best. Day. Ever.
The thought had been a prominent one within her head and it seemed that every time things couldn't get better, they did. It had been the best when she was reuinted with her friend, and had been even better when he'd given her a gift and then offered to teach her to fly; follow that by showing him her favorite hiding place and once again, when Numi thought things couldn't be better, he pledged to be with her forever. Oh, how the spirits smiled down upon her! If she had ever thought herself unlucky today all of her hopes and dreams had come true. . .

She had her bestest-best friend back in her life and nothing could top that. Just as he vowed to stay by her side forever, Numielle wanted him to know that he'd always be appreciated and welcome in her life, for as long as he chose to stay. It never occurred to her that promises could be broken, or that he might someday forget his pledge of eternity; forever was a long time, after all, but she was quite certain that if anyone was up to such a challenge, Penance would be it.

Grinning up at the male, the mare reached forward to press her nose against his own. "And such a handsome face it is too," she quipped, her black and blue eyes sparkling. Truly her friend had grown in to a very attractive stallion. . . not that Numielle fully understood such thoughts . . . but she found him very pleasant company and was quite sure she would never grow tired of his presence.

Heaving a content sigh, she happily resettled beside her and rested her head against his own. The pale mare had little else to say, the most content she had been in a great long while.

[[xD I'd say that this RP is done, this seems like a good place to end things off for this one and we can start another later. <.<; Methinks something to do with the kidnapping when muses are functioning properly...]]

Penance had sometimes suspected that Numielle's chatter was endless. It wasn't that he assumed she liked the sound of her own voice, but for one as affectionate as she was he often assumed she needed to hear something as well. A reassurance that she wasn't alone, that she wouldn't be forgotten... There were quite a number of possibilities to say the least but apparently he'd been proven wrong. Following his promise the mare had settled down considerably against his side and seemed more than content to lull into silence. There was no need to talk, to break the comfortable silence and both could be left to their own thoughts. In a manner of speaking that wasn't a good thing for certain parts of Penance's mind but it did allow him to smile.

...Whatever he had managed to do, the mare was happy and as a result so was she. She had ceased in her shivering, she was comfortable against his side and she was graced with the very pleasant scenary of her favourite hideaway. It was almost fairy-tale like in a manner of speaking, the conclusion so 'perfect' that Penance couldn't help but eye it with a slight amount of cynicism. Happiness had never come easily to his family, usually plagued by misunderstanding or a struggle and to have everything fit into place so perfectly was a tad bizarre for it.

Foreign.

Nevertheless he did smile warmly at how things had turned out. His reunion had been a success and his worries had been silenced. She had forgiven him - she'd accepted him back after all these years and what was more... she really wanted his company. He couldn't ask for anything more and was content to send a quiet murmur of thanks towards the spirits for their kind consideration. They'd taken care of his friend for all these years and had delivered her safely into his wings. Admittedly he had been given tasks of his own to perform - teaching her to fly, remaining by her side as he had sworn but this he would do with relative ease and patience. Ah yes, for now he was happy and would remain so for a while.

"Mmm, Numielle - with darkness approaching soon it might be best to find shelter away from the mists. I would rather you didn't catch a chill," he murmured at last, his voice still low as if he'd rather not disturb the peace and quiet. "If you have somewhere in mind then lead the way, otherwise I will find a place for us...nyah?"
