"As a working title, 'White Light'," Evan answered, settling down a bit -- this was familiar territory. As far as he was concerned, Kay could have been his editor quizzing him on the new story. "It deals with the white light at the end of the tunnel in near-death experiences..."

"I don't know," Evan murmured softly, doubting himself, "it's not terribly good. But it is fun, and it's the thing I do the best," he said contentedly, laughing finally, seeming to have relaxed.

Kay smiled.
"Ah, yes. Fun. One of my favorite things. Although you wouldn't know by seeing me...or listening to me." And he chuckled.
"What else do you do for fun?"

"Well, I like swimming, and walking also," Evan said thoughtfully. "I can be rather active. But as this -is- my job, I have to do a certain amount each day, and I don't get to do things as much as I would like."

"I would enjoy spending some time with you, if you wouldn't mind. Your company's enjoyable, and we have the same idea of fun." Well, pretty much, anyway. Kay stood then and went over to Evan's chair, perching on the arm.

"Yeah, that'd be nice," Evan said with a small smile, tilting his head and peering up at Kay, setting aside his drink on his desk. "You're the closest thing to a friend I've had in awhile."

"Me too," Kay said, smile spreading. He reached down and touched the top of Evan's head, the back, his neck, finally resting the hand on his opposite shoulder. Aww. Affections.

The gentle touches were again unfamiliar, but Kay was gentle -- he closed his eyes a little, sighing. "It's nice to be close to someone, isn't it?"

"Yes," Kay said, his voice suddenly soft and affectionate, "I like it very much. Would you like to sit on the couch with me?"

"If you want," Evan said, soft and bashful, but pleased as he leaned into Kay a little, sighing, reluctant to move.

But just as soon as he had showed up, Kay was gone back to his couch, looking to Evan with what could only be described as 'come hither' eyes.

After a moment, blushing sheepishly, Evan rose from his chair and shuffled toward the couch, and then eased down beside Kay, awkward and hesitant, but smiling anyway, fumbling a little.

Kay was not so shy. He hadn't been touched or held in a long, long time, and he was looking forward to it in the platonic, affectionate way most men these days seemed to be afraid of. He wrapped his arms around Evan and exhaled slowly, resting his chin on the closest shoulder. Mmm. Warm.
