"Mm, yep. I always 'ave lots t'do out an' about. It's a real work out! It makes you all tired and whatnot. Plus I gotta head out 'gain, soon." She replied almost without hesitation. The fact that he had been listening, even with the mocking expression, seemed enough to motivate her to keep on talking.

Not that it really took much, anyways.

"You get to see a lot of the forest. All over the place, though sometimes I wish I could explore a little more. Lots of interestin' characters, too." She neglected to mention that because she was new, she obviously hadn't seen that much yet, but for her it seemed like she had been everywhere. It was certainly a lot more space than she had ever seen in her young life and there was still so much more that was out there...

"It's a lot like hunting, only you go over more areas. The two are lots alike."

It was to be expected. Most adults were busy moving around from one place to the other. The fledgling tried to focus in order to listen to the Scout as she continued to talk about her task, not that really interesting in the task itself but rather in how much time he could steal from the busy scout.

“They’re alike then… well, when I graduate, I’ll pay you a visit. And we’ll race again.” The I’ll win part was clearly implicit in the fledgling’s grin. “You know… if you have time… you can come to the graduation. It looks like there will be a tough bunch.” He said with visible pride as he silently blamed the high numbers of future combatants around him on his own games and challenges that were clearly working on the small group of weaklings he almost got along with. He liked to think he was toughening up the Enclave’s fledglings… rather than to be simply considered a bully.

"Shaping 'em up, are you?" She prodded with her words as she gave a challenging grin at the younger Mist. She'd make the time some way or another, so she could see the next bunch of fledglings. Many of the younger ones either got on her nerves or were too afraid of her competitive nature to even bother with her, but she was still curious.

Plus it sounded like he might want her there.

"Sure, I'll be there. If only to see if any of you are good 'nough." She fluffed her feathers comfortably and still wore the same, playful grin.

“Maybe…” the fledgling replied with the wickedest grin he could produce. Suddenly excited by how easily she accepted his request, Snowpeak shifted his balance between his talons as he spoke.

“Oh, there’s this girl! Her parents are crafters and she didn’t know what she wanted to be but now she says she wants to be a scout and she’s really fast, too! All the others were making fun of her because she’s an aberrant and now she beats them all! It’s so funny! I can’t win against her yet but I will! Soon! You might meet her one day!“ taking a moment to breathe, the eager mist stopped abruptly, cocking his head at the female with an expectant expression. He didn’t really know how the female felt about aberrants and he had already realized how intense some sentinel’s opinions were on this particular matter.

"You can't beat 'er, but I bet I can." Osprey hooted with some pride. She tried not to dwell too long on the fact that the other little female was an aberrant. It was something that she did not like to think about at all, as it was a sore subject for many sentinels.

And it also brought back memories of that strange, sick fledgling during that large, frightening storm...

"Well, lesson t'all the others, eh? If she can whoop them, that means she's better, so maybe they won't be quite so mean." The Mist's feathers were no longer roused, but in their usual position. She was neither relaxed or upset, which was shown by her posture. "Maybe I c'n meet 'er and race 'er when she grad'uates."

“Duh, of course you can!” Snowpeak said with delight, happy that the mood hadn’t changed and barely noticing Osprey’s feathers. Of course you could. You’re…you’re… the mist... “You’re a scout!”

“They’re still mean but she doesn’t care. She’s like… really tough. It’s really hard to make her race ‘cause she doesn’t care about anything anyone says.” And suddenly he was tired of talking about the girl who always beat him and hopped a few steps backwards with an expression of mock seriousness.

“You know who I met? I met an Elite! I was… taking a quick flight around the enclave and she brought me back.”

"Well, maybe if y'guys are nice, she'd wanna race?" Osprey suggested quietly, she noted quickly in his change of position that he was bored with the subject and dropped it. She did not know exactly what to think about the aberrant girl, as from what she generally picked up, they were to be scorned and shunned, but something about it just didn't settle well in her stomach. She couldn't quite put a talon on it...

"An Elite!? Oh, awesome!" The young adult hooted with delight. She wished she could of been there and met her. Maybe she could of learned something just as awesome, though she doubted there was much more that Breeze hadn't taught her. Her instructor had been thorough and hard.

"Was she awesome? What did she say?" She was completely curious and just had to know.

“She was awesome! She was huge and didn’t say much and she was serious almost all the time. She was really cool! Really strong and really fast and she was patient, too! She answered all my questions and told me about her job…!” The fledgling released a storm of words with an unusual enthusiastic ease, bobbing his head rapidly as he grew louder. “And she had a Lani! And it was really cool, too! Oh, and when I… almost fell from the branch, she was right next to me in an instant. I didn’t even see her coming, she’s amaaazing!”

The fledgling paused for a moment as if he had been suddenly interrupted by his own thoughts.
“Not that I’d want to be one… an Elite, I mean… but she was really cool!”

"Elite..." Osprey mulled over the task name after Snowpeak finished his own share of word vomit. For a moment, especially with his sudden burst of enthusiasm, he reminded her of herself.

"You don't wanna? So many really do. They're s'pposed to be the best. The one you met, she sounds just like that!" But now that she stopped to think about it, she wasn't sure if she was right for that task, too. While she was usually headstrong and hard working, part of her felt that she wouldn't be good enough, even though she was doing well at being a Scout.

"Y'know, I dunno if I wanna, either. I like what I am doing." She finally concluded after a moment, giving the younger sentinel a nod and grin.

“Yeah, yeah, she was awesome!” and suddenly, the white fledgling looked thoroughly tired as if the unusual experience of having a normal conversion with someone was draining him. Still, he seemed to perk up a little after.

“I know, right? I think they’re cool but I don’t really want to be one… but it’s funny to see how everyone starts to walk a little straighter when they’re around.” Snowpeak could feel his own weariness gaining on him which worried the mist fledgling a little. He simply refused to cut the conversion short but he knew the kind of things that tended to happen when he grew tired and dropped his resistances so he slowly took a few discreet steps backwards while keeping his eyes focused on the young scout’s yellow gaze… and not on her companion.

Osprey picked up on the sudden wave of exhaustion that seemed to cross the boy's frame. Even though he was right perky afterwards, she was well aware that it was probably time for him to rest. Of course, she didn't point this out to him. She already beat him in a race, no need to bruise his ego any more, right? She didn't want her little friend upset with her.

"You're right, it's extreeeeemely funny. Just say Elite an' sudd'nly everyone's right quick to behave themselves." She laughed heartily and gave the younger Mist a rather brief preen on the eartuft.

"Well, I ought to be 'eadin' out. Lots to do, plus I don't want to keep you from practicin' and whatnot."
PostPosted: Wed Oct 15, 2008 5:24 pm

Snowpeak’s eartufts twitched nervously after the female’s friendly gesture and the fledgling lifted a talon as if to back away but catching himself, he dropped the talon down with somewhat of a rigid movement.

“You’re going?” he asked quietly when he realized she was about to leave. “But…” He didn’t even know what to say anymore. With a full stomach, a good race and a good amount of talking behind him, he knew exactly where he wanted to be right now: inside Typhoon’s nest. With a childish thought, he wondered why he couldn’t have hatched just a little bit earlier… at the same time as the mist female… they could’ve had so much fun… but she was an adult now and had responsibilities to face. It was nice that she’d come to visit in spite of them.

“… a lot of work, huh?” he ended abruptly, looking resigned. “Better get moving then… or you’ll have to finish your tasks at dawn. Which you probably will already considering how slow you are.“ he looked tired, yes… but the grin was back.

"Oh, yes. The last thing I wanna do is have to fly during the time of Helios." She giggled as she gave the younger sentinel one last, quick preen of the tuft. "I'll come by again, sometime. Maybe then you'll be able to keep upw ith the almighty slow Scout, eh?"

She stretched her wings as she prepared to take the flight away from the smaller Enclave. She liked the little fellow. He had a similarly competative spirit and she was sure he would go far once he graduated. She never really noticed how he refused to look at Mus...

"Tell Pa Ty I said hi, okay?" She asked over her wings as she turned from the little Mist.

"An' I'll bring you both something good when I come back!" And with that, the Mist Scout shot off into the darkness. She felt relatively pleased with herself. The little break she took turned out to be a great deal of fun.

Almighty slow Scout. Haha. The fledgling snorted mockingly.

“Don’t worry, I will.” Actually he’d probably forget. As the mist female prepared to take off, a feeling of impotence overtook the smaller mist who silently hold on to the only comforting thought he could think off: she’d be back for his graduation.

“No need, I’ll be bringing you things next time!” she said with light defiance, trying to act tough. And then the female took off and as her dark back quickly merged with the night’s darkness, Snowpeak found his head lowering further and further until it almost touched the bark. Shaking his head violently and stretching his wings methodically, he tried to let go of the gloomy feeling that didn’t suit him at all.

Things were good… She was big and tough but her personality hadn’t changed… he would see her again soon… and last but certainly not least… he hadn’t tried to eat her mus. Smiling alone in the darkness, the fledgling made his way to his favorite minder’s hollow.
